We’re starting the year the best way we know how. Loud, fast, and packed with action from morning through night. Drag racing heats things up early, then Nite Thunder dirt oval racing takes over in the evening. One ticket, two styles of racing, no need to choose sides.

Get ready for a night of diverse music and powerful performances at this multi-genre, all-ages event in Lacombe, Alberta! Whether you’re a fan of soulful acoustics, high-energy hip-hop, or a blend of country and rap, we have something for everyone. Plus, a DJ will be spinning assorted sounds throughout the night to keep the vibes flowing between sets.
 
Opening Acts
We kick things off with Ice C and her father Bam P, a soulful father-daughter duo whose raw emotion and beautiful guitar play will captivate the crowd. Following them, Crazy Horse, a talented female artist, will take the stage with her soulful acoustic melodies and powerful vocals, setting the tone for an unforgettable night.
 
Mid-Set Acts
Next, we introduce Mahihkan, a country-hip hop artist with a focus on positive messaging and personal growth. His lyrics are rooted in themes of overcoming struggles and living with intention, making for an inspiring and uplifting performance. Up next, Little Man YEG and Choqo bring their high-energy, feel-good hip-hop act that will have the audience vibing and dancing with their cheerful and carefree tunes.
 
Headliners
To wrap up the evening, we have the incredible Too Deep 2020 & Saint Charity. This powerhouse duo not only combines Too Deep’s deep, introspective lyrics with Saint Charity’s angelic vocals but also brings a dynamic style of genre-blending, fusing elements from multiple genres to create a sound that’s uniquely their own. Their performance promises to breathe new life into old-school styles and will undoubtedly be the perfect end to an unforgettable night.

Stephen Olson is a classically-trained guitarist who learned to play Chet Atkins thumb-picking from his Uncle Lyndy. By playing bass and melody lines simultaneously, Stephen can authentically replicate the country and rockabilly sounds of the 1950s. Stephen draws the audiences in with his electric performances and stories from this golden era of music.

A guitar prodigy from the age of 9, Aaron Young performed in and directed the world-beat stage show, Barrage, touring Asia, Scandinavia, the UK, Canada and the US. 
Young’s music has been featured on PBS, CBC, MTV, Bravo and the BBC. He has produced Barrage, The Polyjesters, John Wort Hannam, Susan Aglukark and Ghostboy.

A two-day workhop to break into playwriting: 
 

"Draft One"   Thursday, March 5 Absolute basics (formatting, introduction to the medium, examples, beginner playwriting exercises).  Participants receive a digital copy of the presentation This is the "how to hold a paintbrush" of playwriting.

 

"Draft Two"   Thursday, March 19 Still very beginner level, but challenges the budding playwrights to begin fleshing out things like character, setting, and story arc, & consider the impact of their writing choices. Participants receive a digital copy of the presentation This is the "how to paint your first painting" of playwriting.

 
Instructor: Katherine Orsten
Katherine Orsten is award-winning playwright, director, and performer, who grew up in Sylvan Lake, studied theatre in Red Deer and Toronto, and now practices throughout the Central Alberta region.
 Their education focused on the creation of new theatre "from scratch, with ingredients you probably have around the house". Their favorite projects are plays that are written locally, cast locally, and performed locally. They are passionate about supporting early-career and community-based playwrights.

What does it mean for a poem to bear witness? In this generative workshop, participants will explore writing that responds to personal experience and collective events, inhabiting the space between the intimate and the political. Drawing on the concept of the “poetry of witness,” we will consider how poems can document, remember, and respond with care and craft. Through discussion and guided exercises, writers will experiment with shaping testimony into powerful poetic form.
 
Instructor: Rayanne Haines
Rayanne Haines is an award-winning hybrid author and pushcart nominated poet, producer and podcaster. She is the author of Tell The Birds Your Body Is Not A Gun (Frontenac House), winner of the 2022 Stephan G. Stephansson, Alberta Literary Award for Poetry and shortlisted for both the BPAA Robert Kroetsch Award, and the ReLit Award. She's also the author of the poetry collections The Stories in My Skin (2013), Stained with the Colours of Sunday Morning (Inanna, 2017), and now, What Kind of Daughter? (Frontenac House, 2024) a poetry and essay memoir exploring grief, identity, and gendered trauma. Rayanne served as the 2022 Writer in Residence for the Edmonton Region Federation of Libraries, is the recipient of an Edmonton Artist Trust Fund Award, host of the Crow Reads Podcast, President of the League of Canadian Poets, and an Assistant Professor at MacEwan University. She has been published in various anthologies and journals including the Globe and Mail, Minola Review, Fiddlehead, Grain, FreeFall, Prairie Fire and others.

Fran has worked an eclectic mix of jobs including youth worker, career counsellor, proposal writer, and a ten-year stint as VP for a career consulting firm. Her short stories have appeared in literary journals from coast to coast, and her plays have been produced for both theatre and radio. Fran has published two novels. The Shore Girl landed on the CBC Top 40-Book List and won the Alberta Reader’s Choice Award. No Good Asking, shortlisted for the 2019 Georges Bugnet and ReLit Awards, has been translated for international markets. Fran’s third novel, Cattail Lane, hit bookshelves in the spring of 2025.

There are many reasons to be excited about new Glasgow-based five-piece Ímar – not least a line-up featuring current and former members of Mànran, RURA, Talisk, Barrule and Cara whose collectively crammed trophy-cabinet includes the 2018 BBC Radio 2 Musician of the Year, 2016 Radio Scotland Musician of the Year, BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award, BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and several All-Britain & All-Ireland titles. By far the best and biggest reason, however, is how excited the band are themselves.
“As soon as we all sat down to play together properly, it just worked,” says bodhrán player Adam Brown (RURA), originally from Suffolk. “We were a bit stunned, to be honest; all looking round at everyone else, thinking, ‘Is it just me, or was that really good?’”
“It’s definitely more of a pure-drop trad sound than most of the other bands we’re involved in,” adds Cork-born uilleann piper, flautist and whistle player Ryan Murphy (Mànran), “but I think that’s partly why it feels so natural. We’re going back to the music we started out playing – which is ultimately the reason why we’re all here as musicians.”
Ímar’s formation also embodies a more personal reconnection with its members’ formative years, dating back long before their recent camaraderie around Glasgow’s justly celebrated session scene. All five of them – also including fiddler Tomás Callister and bouzouki ace Adam Rhodes (Barrule), both from the Isle of Man, plus Glasgow native Mohsen Amini (Talisk) on concertina – originally met as teenagers through Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, the Irish traditional music network that tutors budding players throughout the British Isles and beyond, and stages the annual schedule of Fleadh competitions.

This escape room will take place from March 9th to March 20th, with hour time slots available varying each day.
