"Marquis Crossing Ladies Society's First Attempt at Murder" sounds like an intriguing title for a mystery novel or a comedic play. Picture a quaint and seemingly tranquil town where a group of elderly ladies, known for their knitting circles and charitable bake sales, find themselves tangled in a surprising plot twist. Their serene routine is disrupted when a local nuisance threatens their beloved community center, and they jokingly concoct a plan to "eliminate" the problem. However, with their first attempt at murder, chaos ensues, leading to a series of humorous mishaps and misunderstandings. As the story unfolds, the ladies must navigate their way through unexpected consequences, all while uncovering secrets, building friendships, and ultimately solving a mystery that none of them anticipated. The narrative could blend humor and suspense, offering readers a delightful exploration of camaraderie, aging, and the unexpected adventures life can present.

Step back in time to 1957 and relive the electrifying sounds of early rock and roll! Musician and storyteller Steve Olson uncovers the incredible true story of the concert by four future Hall of Famers -- Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Wanda Jackson -- that shook his hometown of Camrose. Using classic guitars, historic photos, and masterful storytelling, Olson brings to life this "rockabilly roadtrip" from Memphis to small-town Alberta. Don't miss this one-man rockabilly spectacle where legendary songs, untold history, and nostalgia collide!

Stephen Olson is a classically-trained guitarist who learned to play Chet Atkins thumb-picking from his Uncle Lyndy. By playing bass and melody lines simultaneously, Stephen can authentically replicate the country and rockabilly sounds of the 1950s. Stephen draws the audiences in with his electric performances and stories from this golden era of music.
 


Johnny Cash & The Rockabillies

John Hewitt is a force not seen since the end of the 70’s. There are bands, artists and songwriters that mimic and imitate but John Hewitt absorbs and reimagines. From folk clubs to house concerts, festivals to halls John is a master of storytelling, arranging, producing and a painter of poems scarcely seen in today’s musical climate. Since his early teens taking in the powerful sounds of the Beatles, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and the Grateful Dead he has been wandering, searching and yielding a crop of new ideas from the old world.  A multi-instrumentalist from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and being Alberta bound since 2018 John’s mark on the Western music scene is impossible to go unnoticed. Performing over 150 shows per year (From Alberta and British Columbia to Montana, Colorado, California and beyond), covering 20,000 miles per annum and releasing upwards of 3 albums in that same timeframe there is no comparison to the work ethic, the attitude and the drive that John has as an artist. Fronting the New Americans and touring solo most of the year his output impresses the young and the old, the folk and the rock, the country and the town and the only thing left at the end of the night is a feeling you won’t get anywhere else.
 

 
A poet born in the heat of Las Vegas, Abigayle Oakley blends the melodic richness of folk pioneers with the lyrical honesty oftoday’s confessional singer-songwriters. Her songs explore the complexities of life and the existential questions that shape us, often with a sharp, tongue-in-cheek wit that adds layers of humor and insight.
Abigayle made her Bluebird Cafe debut in 2024. She has toured the US and Canada opening for acts such as The War and Treaty, Jed and The Valentine, Forest Blakk and more.
Her songs have been recorded by Nashville artists including Kate Yeager, Molly Frances, and CMT’s September Artist of the Month, Ash Ruder. When not writing, practicing, or performing, you can find Abigayle hiking the beautiful hills of Tennessee.

Need a kick start to get writing? These drop-in nights will provide you a safe space to write, discuss, and share your work. Each session will include time to work on your own project or follow a freefall writing prompt. For the regular attendees, optional prompts will be given to work on outside of each session.

Fran has worked an eclectic mix of jobs including youth worker, career counsellor, proposal writer, and a ten-year stint as VP for a career consulting firm. Her short stories have appeared in literary journals from coast to coast, and her plays have been produced for both theatre and radio. Fran has published two novels. The Shore Girl landed on the CBC Top 40-Book List and won the Alberta Reader’s Choice Award. No Good Asking, shortlisted for the 2019 Georges Bugnet and ReLit Awards, has been translated for international markets. Fran’s third novel, Cattail Lane, hit bookshelves in the spring of 2025.

Jory Kinjo has toured with legends like B.B. King, ZZ Top, Buddy Guy, Fishbone, the Wailers, Ziggy Marley, the English Beat and UB40.
A guitar prodigy from the age of 9, Aaron Young performed in and directed the world-beat stage show, Barrage, touring Asia, Scandinavia, the UK, Canada and the US. 
Young’s music has been featured on PBS, CBC, MTV, Bravo and the BBC. He has produced Barrage, The Polyjesters, John Wort Hannam, Susan Aglukark and Ghostboy.
The duo’s unique history results in an amazing show. Their first two albums garnered a YYC Music Awards 2023 Blues Recording of the year and a WCMA Music Award nomination for Blues Act of the Year.

A two-day workhop to break into playwriting: 
 

"Draft One"   Thursday, March 5 Absolute basics (formatting, introduction to the medium, examples, beginner playwriting exercises).  Participants receive a digital copy of the presentation This is the "how to hold a paintbrush" of playwriting.

 

"Draft Two"   Thursday, March 19 Still very beginner level, but challenges the budding playwrights to begin fleshing out things like character, setting, and story arc, & consider the impact of their writing choices. Participants receive a digital copy of the presentation This is the "how to paint your first painting" of playwriting.

 
Instructor: Katherine Orsten
Katherine Orsten is award-winning playwright, director, and performer, who grew up in Sylvan Lake, studied theatre in Red Deer and Toronto, and now practices throughout the Central Alberta region.
 Their education focused on the creation of new theatre "from scratch, with ingredients you probably have around the house". Their favorite projects are plays that are written locally, cast locally, and performed locally. They are passionate about supporting early-career and community-based playwrights.

Over the three-day event, there will be three separate rodeo performances on Friday Night, Saturday night and Sunday Afternoon where we will be crowing our Champions!

Jâca is an award-winning clarinet/guitar duo that combines world music, virtuosity, and humor to bring an adventurous, passionate, and completely original musical style to the stage. Jaca combines the intimacy of an instrumental duo with a larger-than-life energy to create an experience that consistently leaves audiences buzzing. “At a Jâca concert you’re not just a bystander, you feel a part of it.” – Humans of Chamber Music.
Described as an “alluring and stunning combination” (Take Effect) Jâca’s music is truly a unique fusion that fits into no single genre. From Flamenco to Fado, Appalachia to Argentina, and guitar slides to clarinet smears, the duo explores the highest limits of what their instruments can do. Their debut album, Breakthrough (Navona, 2022) has been honored by worldwide organizations including the International Portuguese Music Awards (Best Instrumental Performance 2023), and the International Clarinet Association. Portuguese-Canadian clarinetist Wesley Ferreira is an acclaimed soloist and orchestral musician. He always brings his infectious positivity, big smile, and way too many reeds to every rehearsal. Dividing time between his home in Spain and his native USA, guitarist Jaxon Williams is an active performer of both Classical and Spanish Flamenco styles. He also knows more about fingernail care than a certified beautician and can slap on a fake nail in 5 minutes or less. Since 2018, Jâca has brought their infectious charm to arts series and music festivals across the USA and worldwide. They have played in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and have been featured on national television and radio in Portugal, Ecuador, and the USA. Alberta's governing body for cheerleading, the Alberta Cheerleading Association (ACA), hosts this Scholastic Event in partnership with Metro Athletics! 
The ACA's Scholastic Classic was designed to have a fun Scholastic event for all of Alberta. Our goal is to profile of the sport of cheerleading in Alberta, which has helped us to grow and change attitudes about the true athleticism and leadership that these athletes commit to.
In addition to this, as a non-profit association, funds raised help us to run our programs such as the education and training of coaches and judges, offering of awards and scholarships, and meeting the needs of scholastic and all-star cheerleading programs in the province of Alberta.

Brace yourself for the answers as powerhouse duo Dear Rouge release their latest record Lonesome High, ready to sweep you away into a realm of rock music that fully embodies the band’s longtime mantra of “grit and gloss”. There is substance in the vulnerability revealed on the record, as they lean hard into the expression of the human experience. From the feedback of amps turning on at the top of the record, to the comedown ballad of the closing title track, each song on Lonesome High is a testament to Dear Rouge’s dedication to crafting a sound that's simultaneously timeless and cutting-edge. It’s a pulse-quickening ride through throw-your-hands up punk songs, the tastemaker tracks of the indie renaissance, and stadium-sized anthems, all the while being thoroughly Dear Rouge at its core: biting, gut-wrenching, but always hopefully optimistic.
The soul of Lonesome High draws inspiration from the melancholic beauty of “high lonesome” bluegrass music. The genre is rooted in deeply emotional lamentations about love lost, interpersonal tensions, and the weight of unwanted social and cultural changes, serving as the emotional bedrock for Dear Rouge’s latest auditory odyssey. Lonesome High is a representation of life overall, with its highs and lows, and so it has a more relational, more vulnerable sound. The duo had ventured into the depths of their struggles on their previous release Spirit, a record that was deeply seated in the struggles of personal hardship, worldwide uncertainty, and fighting to keep your head above water. “Now it is time to get to the joy as we come through the shadows,” Danielle shared. “Continuing in the vein of “Gimme Spirit”, it’s a vibe of things getting better. Fighting your goons, achieving your dreams, and making the world better as you do so.” For the listener, there is a feeling of coming through a long hard journey. It is written from a place of happiness but remembering what you’ve come through; the pathway from the shores of suffering, up to the mountaintop of joy.
In every note and lyric, you'll find echoes of the timeless struggles and triumphs that have defined this bluegrass tradition. It’s a dynamic world, one that Danielle and Drew McTaggart used to channel the spirit of rock’n’roll. The duo took elements that have surfaced over the band’s career and honed it into a snapshot of their sound. “We can’t help but be ourselves,” Drew says unapologetically. But Danielle assures us that they do not want to be “a banging gong, adding to the noise around us all”. Dear Rouge’s music is about a sharing of hearts, and in doing so, adding to the beauty and openness in our life. “We want to have fun while we deal with substance,” she says with a laugh.
Lonesome High is Dear Rouge’s most condensed record to date as it was written and recorded in under a year while touring its predecessor, with the band returning to the studio in between festival dates over the summer months. In the studio, Dear Rouge collaborated with acclaimed producer Gus van Go, known for his recent work with The Beaches and Metric, at the esteemed Giant Studios in Toronto. The city’s electric energy and eclecticness served as the ideal inspirational backdrop for the duo, adding life to the record’s most vibrant moments.
With a career that has already seen many “peaks” over it’s trajectory, including winning a Juno Award, countless radio hits, and playing alongside some of the biggest names in music, Lonesome High is a record that focuses on the electric energy of Dear Rouge's live performances. Danielle McTaggart is an artist in transformation. Best known as the powerhouse voice behind the Canadian Juno Award-winning duo Dear Rouge, she has spent years captivating audienceswith electrifying performances and chart-topping alternative hits. Now, with her new project Larkk, McTaggart steps into an intimate, introspective space—one that trades the high-energypulse of indie rock for the raw, poetic vulnerability of indie folk-tinged, atmospheric songwriting.
Larkk was born from Danielle McTaggart’s desire for deeper artistic exploration. Drawing from life’s most raw and vulnerable experiences, McTaggart channels emotion into a richly texturedand expressive sound. After years of touring with acclaimed acts like Metric, Phantogram, and The Beaches, she felt a pull to connect on a more personal level—with herself and with listeners. What began as an inward journey of healing became Larkk: a project where the music found her as much as she found it. Now, through Larkk, Danielle offers a bold and honest expression of emotion, inviting others into that same space of reflection and connection.
The story of Larkk unfolded in a beautifully organic way. For years, Danielle McTaggart quietly wrote music on a small upright piano in her remote cabin in Western Canada—sculpting thebones of each song and carefully shaping the emotional intent behind them. It was an intimate, solitary process rooted in reflection and honesty. Eventually, she reached out to poet Derrick C. Brown, whose lyrical depth and raw vulnerability felt like the perfect complement to her vision. Their collaboration became the final piece in bringing the songs to life, completing the emotional arc she had been crafting for so long.
Brown, known for his powerful and surreal poetry, has been praised by NPR and The New York Times and has toured with artists like David Cross, Cold War Kids, The Afghan Whigs, and Eugene Mirman.
The recording process of her nine song debut Cinders was deeply personal, unfolding in intimate sessions where McTaggart brought her vision to life alongside a team of collaborators, including producer Thomas D’Arcy (Whitehorse, Neko Case, The Sheepdogs). McTaggart’s haunting piano performances, mixed in with her ethereal vocals create a lush yet delicate soundscape where each song feels like a whispered confession, blending Phoebe Bridgers-esque storytelling with the cinematic depth of Big Thief and Weyes Blood.

One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. Footloose is the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. He and his mother move to the small town of Bomont after his father abandons them. Upon arriving, Ren finds himself at odds with most of the town, including the Reverend Bomont. The Reverend has convinced the town to outlaw dancing, which Ren finds unbelievable. With the help of Ariel (the Reverend’s daughter) and Willard (a country hick who becomes his best friend), Ren convinces the Reverend to let the teenagers dance, and in the process helps the town to heal from a tragedy that affected them all. 
FOOTLOOSE: YOUTH EDITION is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
