Ticketing Options:
Car Flex Pass - One ticket is all you need for everyone in your car (up to 8 people). You don’t need tickets for each person—just one for the whole vehicle! Tickets are flexible—there’s no need to book a date or time. Use your ticket on any day and time during the 2025 Magic of Lights season, up to January 3rd.
Car Dash Pass - Skip the line! For only a few dollars more per vehicle, the Dash Pass allows you to bypass traffic and enter through the special Dash Pass lane.
Limo Dash Pass - Bypass the traffic and use the special Dash Pass Lane with the Limo Dash Pass. Load up your limo (9-16 passengers). Please note: Limos are not provided by the facility; guests must arrange their own transportation.
Bus Dash Pass - Ideal for large groups! The Bus Dash Pass allows vehicles holding 17+ passengers to skip the line using the special Dash Pass lane. Please note: Buses are not provided by the facility; guests must arrange their own transportation.
 A portion of proceeds from each vehicle supports 880 CHED Santas Anonymous and Canadian Tire Jumpstart, helping to spread joy and make a difference in our community.

Using classic guitars, historic photos, and masterful storytelling, Olson brings to life this "rockabilly roadtrip" from Memphis to small-town Alberta. Don't miss this one-man rockabilly spectacle where legendary songs, untold history, and nostalgia collide!

Stephen Olson is a classically-trained guitarist who learned to play Chet Atkins thumb-picking from his Uncle Lyndy. By playing bass and melody lines simultaneously, Stephen can authentically replicate the country and rockabilly sounds of the 1950s. Stephen draws the audiences in with his electric performances and stories from this golden era of music.

Need a kick start to get writing? These drop-in nights will provide you a safe space to write, discuss, and share your work. Each session will include time to work on your own project or follow a freefall writing prompt. For the regular attendees, optional prompts will be given to work on outside of each session.
Please bring a notebook or charged laptop. No writing experience necessary.

Facilitator: Fran Kimmel
Fran has worked an eclectic mix of jobs including youth worker, career counsellor, proposal writer, and a ten-year stint as VP for a career consulting firm. Her short stories have appeared in literary journals from coast to coast, and her plays have been produced for both theatre and radio. Fran has published two novels. The Shore Girl landed on the CBC Top 40-Book List and won the Alberta Reader’s Choice Award. No Good Asking, shortlisted for the 2019 Georges Bugnet and ReLit Awards, has been translated for international markets. Fran’s third novel, Cattail Lane, hit bookshelves in the spring of 2025.

Jory Kinjo has toured with legends like B.B. King, ZZ Top, Buddy Guy, Fishbone, the Wailers, Ziggy Marley, the English Beat and UB40.
A guitar prodigy from the age of 9, Aaron Young performed in and directed the world-beat stage show, Barrage, touring Asia, Scandinavia, the UK, Canada and the US. 
Young’s music has been featured on PBS, CBC, MTV, Bravo and the BBC. He has produced Barrage, The Polyjesters, John Wort Hannam, Susan Aglukark and Ghostboy.
The duo’s unique history results in an amazing show. Their first two albums garnered a YYC Music Awards 2023 Blues Recording of the year and a WCMA Music Award nomination for Blues Act of the Year.

Their debut album, Breakthrough (Navona, 2022) has been honored by worldwide organizations including the International Portuguese Music Awards (Best Instrumental Performance 2023), and the International Clarinet Association. Portuguese-Canadian clarinetist Wesley Ferreira is an acclaimed soloist and orchestral musician. He always brings his infectious positivity, big smile, and way too many reeds to every rehearsal. Dividing time between his home in Spain and his native USA, guitarist Jaxon Williams is an active performer of both Classical and Spanish Flamenco styles. He also knows more about fingernail care than a certified beautician and can slap on a fake nail in 5 minutes or less. Since 2018, Jâca has brought their infectious charm to arts series and music festivals across the USA and worldwide. They have played in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and have been featured on national television and radio in Portugal, Ecuador, and the USA. Press outlets have described the duo as being “at the forefront of an exciting new wave of chamber music groups” (Sneak Preview), and praises Jâca for “pushing classical music forward” (Culturs: Global Multicultural Magazine).

John Hewitt is a force not seen since the end of the 70’s. There are bands, artists and songwriters that mimic and imitate but John Hewitt absorbs and reimagines. From folk clubs to house concerts, festivals to halls John is a master of storytelling, arranging, producing and a painter of poems scarcely seen in today’s musical climate. Since his early teens taking in the powerful sounds of the Beatles, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and the Grateful Dead he has been wandering, searching and yielding a crop of new ideas from the old world.  A multi-instrumentalist from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and being Alberta bound since 2018 John’s mark on the Western music scene is impossible to go unnoticed. Performing over 150 shows per year (From Alberta and British Columbia to Montana, Colorado, California and beyond), covering 20,000 miles per annum and releasing upwards of 3 albums in that same timeframe there is no comparison to the work ethic, the attitude and the drive that John has as an artist. Fronting the New Americans and touring solo most of the year his output impresses the young and the old, the folk and the rock, the country and the town and the only thing left at the end of the night is a feeling you won’t get anywhere else.
 

 
A poet born in the heat of Las Vegas, Abigayle Oakley blends the melodic richness of folk pioneers with the lyrical honesty oftoday’s confessional singer-songwriters. Her songs explore the complexities of life and the existential questions that shape us, often with a sharp, tongue-in-cheek wit that adds layers of humor and insight.
Abigayle made her Bluebird Cafe debut in 2024. She has toured the US and Canada opening for acts such as The War and Treaty, Jed and The Valentine, Forest Blakk and more.
Her songs have been recorded by Nashville artists including Kate Yeager, Molly Frances, and CMT’s September Artist of the Month, Ash Ruder. When not writing, practicing, or performing, you can find Abigayle hiking the beautiful hills of Tennessee.

Hold onto your hats (and your bladder!) The University of Alberta Opera Theatre is about to flush your expectations down the drain with their upcoming production of Urinetown, The Musical. It’s quirky, it’s sardonic, and it’s the most fun you can have with a water shortage. This unconventional satire on corporate greed, social justice, and the price of well…..using the restroom, hits the stage on January 9, 10 and 11 at Convocation Hall on the University of Alberta campus.
In a world where water is more precious than gold, the musical takes us to a dystopian society where access to toilets is a privilege - one that comes with a steep fee. When the working class revolts against the corporate-controlled bathroom monopoly, what follows is a hilarious and surprisingly profound exploration of human nature, power, and the consequences of taking everything for granted.
Urinetown takes on contemporary issues with sharp wit, irreverent humour, and a surprisingly catchy score. The talented cast of U of A Opera Theatre will bring to life a world where the simplest human need becomes a battleground for rebellion, love and revolution. With raucous numbers like “It’s a Privilege to Pee” and “Run, Freedom, Run!” expect songs that stick with you longer than that last sip of water before the show starts.
Don't let the title fool you - this is no bathroom humour showcase (well, not entirely). Beneath the slapstick antics and over-the-top parody, Urinetown packs a serious punch, addressing themes of power, corruption, and inequality that will leave you thinking long after the final curtain.

Improv is a team sport! This workshop will focus on improvised scene work and character relationships. You will develop an understanding and awareness of the different ways in which characters interact with one another. By the end of this class, you should be able to improvise a scene with a partner while also maintaining a character throughout the scene. Participants can expect to do more scene work than in Level 1.
You will have the opportunity to perform in the Workshop Showcase for friends and family. Performance is encouraged, but not mandatory.

Braydon Lynch is a stand-up comedian, actor, and improviser who grew up in small town Kindersley, Saskatchewan. He now hangs his hat in Toronto and has been working his craft on stages across Canada and the UK. He has trained with Second City and made appearances at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival, San Francisco Comedy Competion, Burbank Comedy Festival, and Just For Laughs Toronto. In 2018, Braydon founded Cowbell Comedy which has quickly become one of the hottest tickets in Toronto. He was named as one of the 10 Canadian’s Who Killed in Comedy in 2021, and again in 2023 by the Interrobang.

New Works is hosting staged readings of our In-Development plays! This event provides the playwrights with public feedback and exposure for their works, allowing them to see how their play would function in front of a real audience.
For our In-Development series, New Works will be presenting sections of three plays:
Painting of Two Girls at a Bus Stop written by Tori Kibblewhite and directed by Brandon Wang.
I'm Not Funny Anymore written by Grace Young and directed by Maddy Whitlow.
Still Life written by Alisha Breton and directed by Ella Jensen.
Following the reading of each play, a talkback with the Playwright and Director will take place, allowing for feedback from the audience and insight into the writing process.
New Works' In-Development program takes plays that either were not developed enough for our mainstage program or would not function within our festival format and gives them an opportunity to receive mentorship, development, and exposure as staged readings. As directing for and acting in staged readings is a different experience than in fully produced performances, this allows for the building of valuable skills not often found within the University's curriculum.
