      About the McMaster Thespian Company:    
  The McMaster Thespian Company is a non-profit theatre organization specializing in developing and performing classical plays in new ways. Past shows include (but are not limited to) scripts and pieces from the classical Grecian, Elizabethan, and Victorian eras. MTC provides opportunities for students interested in performing, technical theatre, and production, and creates an inclusive forum for artists and technicians to develop and showcase their skills and talents. In the process, we cultivate theatrical performances that touch on a variety of social issues, bring theatre's origins and earliest pieces to life, and highlight the importance of live theatre at McMaster and in our surrounding community. The 2024-2025 school year marks MTC's 20th season.   
   Our company is composed of actors, crew members, and production team members that come from different faculties and backgrounds. Among our members, we encourage artistic and technical development within the diverse areas of theatre and provide an environment where our company members can explore classical theatre outside of academic study.

Lynn McDonald presents Don Ross and Julie Malia in concert!
Lynn is thrilled to welcome Don Ross back to Port Perry for his occasional series featuring guest musicians from around the world. This time, his cohort is the wonderful guitarist and vocalist Julie Malia, all the way from Germany.
Don and Julie have been performing together for the last two years internationally, with shows in Germany, Austria, Italy, the UK, the USA, and across Canada. They showcase their high-end talents as guitarists and their complementary talents as vocalists, playing a mixture of original music and beautiful arrangements of contemporary music.
Once again, Lynn brings the music to the beautiful confines of the Anglican Church of the Ascension in Port Perry, Ontario for a Wednesday matinee show. The concert will feature some of the recent singles that Julie and Don have released together, as well as music from Julie's latest solo album, entitled SEAGULL, and all kinds of music from the past 35 years of Don's recorded career. For the ninth consecutive year, If You Ask Me (IYAM) has supported emerging filmmakers with lived mental health and/or addiction experiences to create new short films. This year’s program features shorts by filmmakers from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). These new films were developed from July – September 2025 under the guidance of Robin Riad, along with IYAM alumnus Esteban Powell serving as mentor. Equipment rentals and facilities were generously provided by our community sponsor and partner, LIFT.

Her parents, Elfie and Klaus, are also finding it hard to keep up with a world that is constantly changing.  Who gets to decide what is normal? How to Be Normal and the Oddness of the Other World is an exploration of identity, family and self-discovery, and a young woman’s search for equilibrium and meaning in a world that is spiraling out of control.

Director bio: Florian Pochlatko is an Austrian writer, director, and editor. His acclaimed short film Erdbeerland (2012) received numerous awards and has been a fixture in Austrian cinemas ever since. After working as a visual identity designer for musicians and curating for Cultural institutions, he now returns to his roots with his first narrative feature.

Brothers Ziad and Moody spend their last moments in the family home they’re forced to leave due to a scheduled demolition as part of the city’s development plans. To pass the time while they move the furniture outside, Moody turns on the TV, which soon blares news of Palestinian home demolitions in Sheikh Jarrah, Jerusalem, casting a somber shadow over their already melancholic last day.
Director BioMahmoud Ibrahim, a 24 year old Egyptian filmmaker. He was among the first class of students to graduate from the Higher Institute of Cinema in Alexandria in 2023. He is interested in the relationship between the individual and the city, and the intersection of collective and personal archives. His debut short film "The last day" participated in Berlinale International Film Festival 75 in the Forum Expanded. Mahmoud has worked as a director, producer, cinematographer, editor, and sound designer. He co-founded HandyCam Films, an independent production company that seeks to explore new art spaces and create alternative production methods, away from centralism.

Through experiments with technology, improvisation and new-found acceptance of lived experience, Ben E. Wood has built something of a catharsis-fueled time machine. The output is a rich and layered concept album that plays with hurt, love, anguish, wisdom, and self-destruction-for-the-sake-of-self-rebuilding. This album (and its live show counterpart) curiously dance through each stage of grief, ultimately landing on acceptance as the last stop. This is not just a story of endurance, it's about transformation and growth. It's about coming to accept reality, with all its pain and beauty. It's about coming to terms with disability, and all that we can't change.
This album is a dreamlike companion to crisis and recovery, drawing aesthetic inspiration from folk-punk, clowny 90s rock and psychedelic anti-folk. The refrains and motifs that weave in and out of the project are meant to tie each string into the bigger knot that is recovery. While the project is full of hard-found wisdom, throughout the show we get to see the emotional backstage of what it feels like to seek help.
Farewell Strange Hotel is about the derailment that comes from crisis, and the effort of helping the train onto a new track. This album moves us through frantic manic fear and urgency, to grounded and thoughtful resolutions. There's pain and levity and roadblocks and epiphanies. And restarts. Sometimes recovery walks a circular path, and the lyrical and melodic interplay between the songs reflects that. It'll walk with you. Sometimes in circles.

Artist BioBen E. Wood (he/they) is a disabled artist and media-maker in East York whose experiences fill out a whimsical body of work playing in the tension between misery and joy. Through experiments with technology, improvisation and new-found acceptance of lived experience, Ben has built something of a catharsis-fueled time machine. Ben's new recoverycore concept album is called Farewell Strange Hotel, and it's a dreamlike companion to 2024's immersive psychosis episode, a 4-week hospitalization and its associated recovery efforts afterwards. It seeks to laugh and cry at the same time, covering both the manic frantic fear and the measured thoughtful resolutions.

'Everything has a voice'
Lips pressed against a mic with a determination to be heard, even in fragmented lines, distorting. Two gloved hands wave over a series of objects arranged on a large white table; a VHS player and CRT Monitor, a Cassette Player, three mixers, a camera, a power bar and several charging cells, the crackling electromagnetic static they emit made audible and interruptive. Their wires spill over the edge of the desk, entangled.
'Sound is something that you can feel beyond your skin'
“Listening Gloves” designed as an instrument to play different pulsing electromagnetic frequencies of curated technological artifacts through touch. In this process of amplification, they tune into sounds as though they are rhythms of a living being.
This is "Sandpaper Hammock", a solo multimedia performance series where improvised sound compositions are played off of technological artifacts in combination with original poetry recitations. Through sound, a story unfolds, inviting embodied feeling as a vehicle to share in ways that do not center language over sensation.
Static is used as a material of resistance; the electromagnetic frequencies made audible are a sonic reminder of a friction that exists between surface and depth, a disruption of smoothness. During the set, the camera is turned onto the audience and the frequencies generated from a live feed on a CRT are an act of subversion.
This piece disrupts the focus by interrogating the nature of viewership through technology in the performance itself. People are asked to “watch themselves, watching me. Who remembers longer? The static, the screen, or the human being?'

Performer BioAliyah Aziz is a multidisciplinary storyteller, poet and musician who uses light to talk about shadows, and sound to physically move them through us. She uses disruption as a tool of resistance, embracing glitch and static to channel the friction that exists between the surface and the depth of the technology that we engage with. Her expressions take many forms, from multimedia moving collages of archived material, experimental sound and poetry compositions, interactive media installations, to live performances. I consider my practice to be an exploration of identity and the power that stories hold, from the history of our shadows to the projection of our futures.

Denis Côté's documentary Paul finds its eponymous protagonist figuring out how to take control of his life. Weighing 300 lbs and struggling with depression and social anxiety, the film chronicles Paul's unconventional path towards turning his life around. Paul finds solace in taking on the role of a "simp" (a man who excessively dotes on someone who doesn't reciprocate their affection). He spends his days on his hands and knees cleaning the homes of various dominatrices before going home and sharing his experiences with his burgeoning social media audience.
Côté crafts one of the year's most unconventional explorations of healing, self-improvement, and human connection. Paul emerges as a sweet and inspiring portrait of someone having the bravery to defy social norms in the pursuit of self-fulfillment. With shades of Wim Wenders' modest masterpiece Perfect Days, Paul suggests mindful commitment to repetitive tasks can strengthen resilience while bringing meaning and satisfaction to everyday life.

Why the St. Lawrence Market?
As Toronto's oldest market, the St. Lawrence Market's property has had a market as early as 1803. The building itself has many of its original structures still in place from 1845. We chose this spot as our main focal point on our tour because it still remains a place for history, culture and is a part of Toronto's identity.
The area that was built around this market is reflective of how old and new can coexist in cuisine, architecture and history. This is the best place to discover some of Toronto's finest cuisine at the same time as learn more about the city's fascinating history!

Loss is universal, it's something everyone encounters in some form. Ghost is a journey through some of the different ways one can cope - both healthy and unhealthy. Director Stephanie Quilliams has transformed the pain of losing her sister to suicide into a unique artistic endeavour by animating her sister's ashes.
Director BioStephanie Quilliams an animator, puppeteer, director, and performance and multimedia artist. Steph has had her work shown internationally and has collaborated with artists both in Canada and America. Stephanie's art often pushes boundaries and buttons. Through her most recent work Ghost, Steph takes a departure from her often humorous and bawdy themes to examine the concept of loss and how to cope with it.

Canadian Bandurist Capella

The Canadian Bandurist Capella (CBC) is one of the premier bandura ensembles in North America. Founded in 2001, the group showcases powerful male voices combined with the rich sound of the bandura, the national instrument of Ukraine. The Capella is committed to advancing and exploring new possibilities with choral bandura music while honouring the instrument’s deep history. Through dynamic musical arrangements and performances, the Canadian Bandurist Capella delivers a unique listening experience that raises the profile of the bandura and Ukrainian song in the Ukrainian Canadian community and beyond.
 
Vira Zelinska Bandura Capella "Zoloti Struny" 

Bandura Capella "Zoloti Struny" ("Golden Strings") is a Ukrainian youth ensemble composed of young musicians dedicated to playing the bandura, Ukraine's national musical instrument. The group has been in existence since the summer of 2001. The Capella consists of 26 members from the Greater Toronto Area. The organization is under the auspices of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mississauga. Honoured Performing Artist of Ukraine, Vira Zelinska, an acknowledged teacher and performer from Ukraine, was the founder and first director of the group. Her daughter, Oksana Zelinska-Shevchuk, took over the role of musical director and teacher at Zoloti Struny in 2012.Throughout 2001-2025, Zoloti Struny members have participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival of Greater Toronto, as well as in the annual Ukrainian Music Festival, in solo/duet/trio bandura categories, winning places and receiving numerous scholarships. Zoloti Struny participate in major events within the Ukrainian community, such as the Toronto Ukrainian Bloor West Village Festival and the Charitable Marathon "Children of Canada – to Children of Ukraine!" Christmas concerts have become an annual tradition now and are a real treat for audiences. Since 2001, Zoloti Struny has recorded and released three CDs, produced a DVD movie about their summer camps, and presented a number of virtual video projects. In addition to practicing and performing throughout the year, students also have the opportunity to further hone their musical skills through studies at the annual "Litnia Zustrich" Bandura Summer Camp in Hawkestone, ON.Active participants at all events within the Ukrainian community of Toronto and Mississauga, Vira Zelinska Bandura Capella "Zoloti Struny" will continue to expand in the pursuit of musical excellence, ensuring the continuation of Ukrainian musical culture.
 
St. Demetrius Bandura Ensemble

The St. Demetrius Bandura Ensemble is comprised of students and alumni of the St. Demetrius Bandura School. The Bandura School was founded in 1983, and has been providing weekly instruction on bandura technique, theory, style and performance for over 40 years to students of all ages. Based at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Demetrius in Etobicoke, Ontario, the St. Demetrius Bandura Ensemble performs regularly at local church concerts as well as functions in the Toronto area, including the Toronto Ukrainian Festival. The ensemble takes pride in demonstrating the versatility of the bandura, performing pieces from a variety of genres, including traditional Ukrainian, liturgical, classical, and popular music. The St. Demetrius Bandura School and Ensemble are directed by Ron Demeda, assisted by William Kowalenko.

Kobzari are a Toronto-based group of young boys who specialize in playing traditional repertoire on traditional 20-stringed banduras led by Merited Artist of Ukraine, Victor Mishalow.

The Women’s Bandura Ensemble is a twenty-member bandura and vocal group, driven by their passion for the bandura and the Ukrainian musical tradition, maintaining important cultural motifs while expanding the instrument's horizons. The WBE is composed of women from seven cities in North America, including Toronto, New York, and Chicago. The mission of the Women’s Bandura Ensemble is to bring together talented, female bandurists in order to showcase the instrument, maintain musical traditions and foster new creative directions and artistry.

The Paul Yuzyk Academy of Toronto, which opened in September 2022, was created to serve the need for a high-quality Ukrainian Canadian academic program that sees student engagement as an integral part of its success. Our vision is to prioritize the student in the learning process and delight as we educate so that the transfer of heritage becomes natural, enduring, and self-replicating. Successful heritage transfer keeps our culture and our community strong.The Bandura Ensemble at the Pavlo Yuzyk Academy of Toronto was founded in 2022. It brings together 5th and 6th-grade students, for whom playing the bandura is a compulsory subject, as well as teachers from the Academy. The Ensemble has become a highlight of school celebrations and concerts for the Ukrainian community. The Ensemble’s repertoire includes folk and contemporary Ukrainian songs that inspire listeners. Currently, the Ensemble is led by the talented bandurist and teacher Olena Gavrylyuk.
