Concert
Lydia Hol is a singer-songwriter whose music blends country, soul, and psychedelic rock. Her latest album, Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream (via Amelia Artists), draws inspiration from Joan Didion’s Slouching Towards Bethlehem. Since 2012, she has toured internationally across Denmark, Sweden, Germany, and the U.S. With a background in literature and filmmaking, Hol’s performance is both timeless and evocative.
Evan Cheadle, a Victoria-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, is known for his lush, vintage-inspired sound that fuses folk, psych, and classic rock. His 2021 album Fault Line Serenade (via Victory Pool) earned national acclaim for its warm analog production and poetic lyricism.

Food
Digable Roots is a Cowichan Valley working farm and farm-to-table culinary operation led by Red Seal Chef Callum Bottrell. Sourcing directly from its own fields, Digable Roots creates seasonal, ingredient-driven meals that celebrate the bounty of the Valley.

Smartphones are one of many ‘modifications’ humans make to themselves in the name of advancement. Early cybernetic devices have ranged from contact lenses to cochlear implants. Now haptics on our phones remind us to drink water, notifications urge us to get enough sleep, and our senses are extended by a web of computers accessible from the pocket-sized terminals we tuck under our pillows at night. This is a new work that explores pervasive media and our relationships to our devices, how they extend our senses, and affect our relationships with other humans and ourselves.

The Parent Advisory Committee at Sir James Douglas is represented by the parents and caregivers of the more than 400 children who attend our school.  We create a community that works together to help our children thrive.  We are committed to supporting, encouraging and improving the quality of education and well being of our students and the community. The SJD PAC serves an important role as a bridge between parents, the school and the community.  We connect at meetings, fundraisers and parent education seminars throughout the year. We sponsor after school events that build community with SJD families, faculty/staff, local businesses and the surrounding Fairfield/James Bay neighbourhoods. Money raised by the PAC goes right back to our children.  We support our teachers with funding for classroom supplies, field trips and excursions.  We help improve the school grounds with new playground and sporting equipment.  We help fill the library with new books for our children to enjoy.  Everything we do benefits our children today and the ones who will walk the halls in the future.

Land and Cultural Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that we are all guests here, on territories historically and continually cared for by the Lekwungen and Songhees peoples, and woven with the presence and history of the W̱SÁNEĆ, Te’mexw Treaty Association, and the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla nations. May we all walk softly, and mindfully as we arrive to this ceremonial event in a good way. May we listen deeply to the original ancestors of these lands and waters around what is now called Victoria which has historically been home to vibrant, complex cultures for thousands of years. The Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, among others, have longstanding relationships with these places—relationships expressed through ceremony, language, art, and sustainable stewardship. 
Ceremonies here have often been tied to the seasons, the salmon, the camas harvest, and the cedar—all gifts of the land and sea. For instance, the camas root (q̓ʷəɬniʔ in Lekwungen), a traditional staple food, was harvested with care and gratitude, reflecting a deep understanding of reciprocity. First Salmon ceremonies honoured the return of the salmon each year, acknowledging their sacrifice and the need to fish responsibly.
These practices weren’t just events—they were (and are) part of a continuous, living culture rooted in respect, gratitude, and responsibility to all living things.

Church of truth is a fully accessible venue that is all located on one level. It has 3 gender neutral washrooms including one wheelchair accessible washroom located by the front entrance. Magnolia Suite - R. Nathaniel Dett, arr. Grant HarvilleRobert Nathaniel Dett was a Canadian-American Black composer, organist, pianist, choral director, and music professor. Born and raised in Canada until the age of 11, he moved to the United States with his family and had most of his professional education and career there. The Magnolia Suite composed for solo piano is in five movements: 1. Magnolias (D Major), 2. The Deserted Cabin (B minor), 3. My Lady Love (A Major), 4. Mammy (D flat Major), 5. The Place Where the Rainbow Ends (G flat Major). It has been arranged for orchestra by Grant Harville.
L'Arlésienne Suites Nos. 1 and 2 - Georges BizetThe music in the L'Arlésienne Suites is derived from the musical score to Alphonse Daudet’s play, L’Arlésienne. The play premiered in October, 1872, receiving negative reviews in the theater and musical press. Bizet decided to take the music from the play and create an orchestral suite. For the suite, Bizet added the alto saxophone to the orchestra. Despite the negative reviews of the play, Bizet’s L’Arlésienne, Suite No. 1 became an immediate success. L'Arlésienne, Suite No. 1 became so popular that the publisher commissioned a second set, L'Arlésienne, Suite No. 2, in 1879, four years after Bizet's untimely death.
