Lakehill Fastball U15B Music Bingo

This is a learning-focused, non-judgmental space where questions are welcome and participation is always optional. Whether you’re brand new, kink-curious, or looking to deepen your understanding of rope bondage, you’re invited to come learn and build skills at your own pace.
This session will introduce foundational concepts including consent, boundaries, scene negotiation, and basic safety practices. We will also touch on the cultural history of erotic rope bondage and its origins in sex work. 
No prior experience is required! This workshop is grounded in harm-reduction, respect, and curiosity rather than performance or pressure. Bring your own rope or you can use ours. There will be 1 hour of instruction, followed by 1 hour of supervised practice to explore with a bit of guidance.

Join us for a powerful conversation with Audrey Yap on abolition feminism—a framework that challenges carceral responses to harm and instead centers collective care, transformative justice, and liberation for all. Dr. Yap will share insights on how abolition feminism shows up in movements for sexual and reproductive health and rights, bodily autonomy, and gender justice.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A, with opportunities to engage thoughtfully and critically. Questions can be submitted in advance to create space for deeper reflection and accessibility.

A World Without Prisons

Kink and risk go hand in hand — but risk doesn’t have to mean harm. Risk Literacy for Kinksters is an interactive, kink-affirming workshop focused on building the skills to identify, communicate, and navigate risk tolerance and appetite in intentional, informed, and consensual ways. 
This session introduces a scalable framework for thinking about risk across different contexts, including physical, emotional, and social risk. Participants will be invited to reflect on activities that may carry risk and explore practical strategies for mitigation, negotiation, and care. Through a guided exercise and worksheet, attendees will also develop personal “risk profiles,” clarifying what kinds and levels of risk they are willing to engage with, and where their boundaries lie.
About the host:
Bjorn Cross (he/it), aka Bloodbjorn, has been active in the local kink scene since 2022. He is the founder and lead organizer of SHOCK: Leather & Edgeplay Events, and has produced dozens of play events and educational workshops in collaboration with Asylum Victoria and Indigeo Volo Adult Society.
As a queer and trans Leatherperson, Bjorn’s focusses are community building, Queer and Leather history, and risk-aware kink practice. He brings experience from both sides of the slash across a wide range of play styles, teaching from lived experience and peer education.
Bjorn holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, which informs his approach to kink practice and education which is rooted in experimentation, collaboration, and understanding historical contexts. Outside of kink, he is a visual artist, tattooer, and vanilla event organizer, with an art practice that frequently overlaps with his kink lifestyle. He has attended international kink conferences, learning from renowned educators

Join us for an introductory workshop on hormone therapy, facilitated by a panel of peers and professionals. This panel is intended for anyone and everyone who is curious about hormone therapy! The panel will be facilitated by Trans peers, a nurse, and a counsellor who specializes in Queer and Trans care. This event is the perfect opportunity to ask your questions and receive answers.

FEM-EXPO Film Fest

EQHR’s Let’s Talk About Consent is an 80-minute interactive workshop that invites participants to deepen their understanding of consent as an ongoing, relational, and context-dependent practice. Grounded in UVic’s definition of consent, this session explores how identity, personal experience, power, and alcohol shape boundaries, communication, and relationships. 
Participants will be guided through reflective discussion and practical scenarios that examine how power shows up in different types of relationships, what can get in the way of practicing meaningful consent, and how to navigate these moments with care and accountability. The workshop emphasizes skill-building, offering concrete, respectful ways to ask for consent, check in with partners, receive a “no,” and respond supportively when someone discloses harm. 
This session is relevant for anyone who wants to strengthen their consent practices, whether in sexual, romantic, or social contexts, and to better understand the resources and supports available to students at UVic. 
Registration encouraged but not required. 

EQHR’s Let’s Talk About Consent

This workshop is a shame-free, inclusive, and pleasure-positive workshop covering the basics of sexual health, consent, contraception, and safer sex.
This session is designed for anyone who feels like their sex education was incomplete, exclusionary, or straight-up nonexistent. Together, we’ll talk about bodies of all genders, boundaries, desire, contraception, STIs, and how to make informed choices that center care, autonomy, and respect.
There’s no such thing as a stupid question. Participants are welcome to ask questions throughout the event or submit them in advance to create space for deeper reflection and accessibility.

SEX-ED 101 with Dr. Leah Tidey

Set in rural Iran, Cutting Through Rocks follows the first woman elected to a local village council as she navigates patriarchal power structures, resistance, and the everyday courage required to push for change. This film is a powerful meditation on gender, governance, and persistence, offering insight into how feminist struggle takes shape across borders and political realities.

In light of current global conditions, this screening is being approached with particular care and intention. The facilitated discussion will centre contextual understanding, respect, and solidarity.

Feminism and Harm Reduction: On the Intersections of Sexual Health and Drug Use is for people who desire to deepen their intersectional feminist analysis by learning from the experience of local harm reduction community health workers. Participants will learn skills that contribute to building empowered healthy communities and fight the stigma and discrimination that stand in the way of justice and health for communities. Active participation in this event is encouraged. People will have opportunities to practice reflectivity and create knowledge from sharing personal experiences from different positionalities as a practice of feminist standpoint. 

Feminism and Harm Reductio

Clits and Giggles is a playful, body-positive game for people with clitorises of all genders. This session creates space to unlearn shame, challenge misinformation, and build confidence in talking about bodies through laughter, low-pressure participation, and collective curiosity. 
This game session is structured in two tiers, allowing participants to engage at their own comfort level. Tier One offers low-risk, anonymous activities where participants can contribute without speaking out loud. Tier Two invites those who want to dive deeper into playful group challenges, quick-fire questions, and collaborative thinking, all centred on media myths, and sex-ed truths (with prizes, of course). 
Rooted in Tara Wright’s experience as a former student and educator, Clits and Giggles draws on what we’ve been taught—and not taught—about pleasure, bodies, and confidence.  
Come solo, come shy, come curious. You’ll leave having laughed, learned something new, and hopefully feeling a little more at home in your body.

FEM-EXPO takes place on the lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən and Songhees peoples, therefore it is imperative to open the week grounded in Indigenous practice, commemoration, and relationship to land. 
We are honoured that the lək̓ʷəŋən traditional dancers will be present as the first event to ground the rest of our Feminist Empowerment Expo. 
This gathering is an intentional moment to pause, witness, and honour the land and its peoples before moving into a week of feminist organizing, art, and collective learning. The ceremony invites participants to reflect on the responsibilities that come with gathering on Indigenous land and the importance of rooting liberation work in respect, accountability, and ongoing presence. 
All FEM-EXPO attendees are encouraged to attend. This space is open to anyone who wishes to begin the week with care, intention, and grounding.

Daniel Champagne lives and breathes music. Playing upwards of 250 concerts around the world

Growing up in the Bega Valley on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, the story goes that

Join us for two nights of joyful music as Daniel Lapp brings together a delightful mix of performers for an unforgettable experience in the Victoria Conservatory’s beautiful Alix Goolden Performance Hall! 
The Joy of Life concerts take place on Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25, at 7:30 PM. This year’s performers include the young fiddlers of the BC Fiddle Orchestra and the Old-Time Danceband, joined by alumni from the past 32 years. Adding to the toe-tapping excitement will be members of Folkestra! and the Joy of Life Choir, backed by the mighty Joy of Life House Band of renowned local musicians. 
Topped off with performances by Daniel’s special guests, these concerts inspire all ages, celebrating life as it blossoms in spring across the nation and resonates at home in Victoria through the wonderful power of live Canadian music.

The 900 Johnson Street entrance is at ground-level and wheelchair accessible. There is an elevator located on the first floor: as you enter the building go down the ramp to your right and the elevator is on the left at the bottom. Daniel Champagne lives and breathes music. Playing upwards of 250 concerts around the world
each year, he is as loved globally as he is in his homeland of Australia. His signature guitar style
and formidable stage show have garnered accolades and dedicated fans worldwide.
Growing up in the Bega Valley on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, the story goes that
the young artist first picked up his instrument of choice at age five, following in the footsteps of
his musical father. He began writing songs at twelve, trained classically throughout his teens, and
performed wherever he could — honing his craft and developing the electric live show that he is
renowned for today. At eighteen, he finished school, turned professional, and hit the road without
looking back.
The following eighteen years have seen him release seven studio albums, sell out concerts across
the globe, play some of the biggest festivals under the sun, and share stages with the likes of
Tommy Emmanuel, INXS, John Butler, Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, Judy Collins, and

Elisa Thorn (Vancouver)Contemporary harpist/vocalist Elisa Thorn (pronounced eh-lee-sah) makes music that drifts easily between folk, pop, jazz, post-rock, and experimental traditions—music she likes to think of as good bath-time listening. Rooted in curiosity and accessibility, her practice embraces unconventional sound worlds while inviting listeners in with warmth and openness. An avid collaborator, Thorn has spearheaded projects including Gentle Party, HUE, and The Giving Shapes, and has contributed to recordings and performances with artists such as Haley Blais, Ora Cogan, Loscil, Khari McClelland, Wallgrin, and Mauvey. Thorn is currently focused on her solo project, which debuted with her album xiik in November 2025.

Pesewa (Victoria)Pesewa is the solo musical project of Jeffrey Ellom, a settler of Ewe, Polish and Irish heritage who resides within the unceded territories of the Lekwungen-speaking Peoples. His afrofuturist sound inspires movement and contemplation in turn, integrating indigenous Ghanaian instruments and musical forms with electronic drums and synthesized ambience. As a student of his musical inheritance, Pesewa aims to contribute to the artistic legacies of the Ewe people.
