"She Kills Monsters" is a play about Agnes, who, after the death of her younger sister Tilly, discovers a Dungeons & Dragons module Tilly wrote.Agnes, initially unfamiliar with D&D, embarks on a journey to understand her sister better by playing the game. The play alternates between the real world and Tilly's imaginative D&D world, where Agnes encounters various monsters and characters inspired by Tilly's life and struggles. Through the game, Agnes confronts her grief, learns about Tilly's experiences as a lesbian youth, and ultimately comes to terms with their complex relationship

World of Outlaws at Ohsweken Speedway - Tuesday July 21

 
Julius Caesar depicts the most iconic historical-tragedy by William Shakespeare, following the violent fall of Rome’s most influential leader. The morally conflicted Brutus and the cunningly coercive Cassius lead a conspiracy of senators & patricians to assassinate Caesar in the name of liberty and stability of the Roman Republic, only to trigger chaos, bloodshed and civil war. Through fiery oratory and calculated deception, both public figures and the Roman populace are manipulated and coerced into fiery fits of factionalism. Julius Caesar warns how populist appeals to fear and identity can accelerate the erosion of democratic ideals; reveals how easily power and emotion distorts truth, and turns noble ideals into instruments of control. In the end, the play’s tragedy surrounding Caesar’s assassination marks not one man’s death, but the tragedy of the death of the Republic.

      About the McMaster Thespian Company:
      The McMaster Thespian Company is a non-profit theatre organization specializing in developing and performing classical plays in new ways. Past shows include (but are not limited to) scripts and pieces from the classical Grecian, Elizabethan, and Victorian eras. MTC provides opportunities for students interested in performing, technical theatre, and production, and creates an inclusive forum for artists and technicians to develop and showcase their skills and talents. In the process, we cultivate theatrical performances that touch on a variety of social issues, bring theatre's origins and earliest pieces to life, and highlight the importance of live theatre at McMaster and in our surrounding community. The 2024-2025 school year marks MTC's 20th season.
      Our company is composed of actors, crew members, and production team members that come from different faculties and backgrounds. Among our members, we encourage artistic and technical development within the diverse areas of theatre and provide an environment where our company members can explore classical theatre outside of academic study.

Yes indeed, re.verse is back with their highly renowned annual "re.verse plays Dilla" tribute concert, returning to their intimate show roots for a special vibe, tight small room sound with a kinetic energy that simply can't be replicated in a concert hall or warehouse. You won't hear anything quite like this this anywhere else. This event is going down live at Division 88 (225 Geary Ave.), a unique hybrid venue/studio hub for outstanding creative local music and media on the Toronto art community's beloved Geary Ave strip, just East of the corner at Dufferin St. re.verse will be bringing you 2 full live sets of reimagined, twisted up and jazz'd out J Dilla instrumentals transversing all corners of his catalogue, from Slum Village anthems to the rare cuts and collabs to the straight Jay Dee bangers, all with their signature re.verse "DJ" style performance - a non-stop flow of seamless live transitions that wind their way through the mind and genius of the short-but-bright lived producer that literally changed music forever.

After the success of his "Sexsmith Sings Lightfoot" show, Ron Sexsmith turns his attention to another songwriting hero, the late, great Warren Zevon, for a very personal tribute. As with the Lightfoot concerts, Ron will perform two solo sets featuring some of his favourite Zevon compositions, with anecdotes and personal insights into his lyrics and music.
Warren Zevon’s music singlehandedly got Ron through the pandemic with its mixture of humour, darkness and unique point of view. It was a cathartic experience pulling together this setlist from Warren’s vast catalogue of albums.
It goes without saying that Ron is beyond delighted to be returning to Hugh’s Room this February for another special tribute honouring the newest member of The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for perhaps a new annual tradition! Second show added for Thursday February 5.

On Wednesday February 4, Hugh’s Room is proud to introduce a singer-songwriter who grewup immersed in folk music, inspired by her surroundings and the legacy of her father, legendarysinger-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. That’s right, with clawhammer banjo, haunting vocals, andfoot-stomping rhythm, Meredith Moon delivers folk music that’s both rooted and rebellious.Blending old-time traditions with raw storytelling, her performances captivate intimate rooms andfestival crowds alike. A singular voice in Canadian folk, she brings grit, grace and authenticity toevery stage. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist and natural storyteller, she began crafting songsat a young age and spent her teens busking across Canada, from Halifax to Vancouver,developing the unique voice and style that define her work today.
Her music blends the raw spirit of traditional folk with a modern edge. Known for her powerfulvocals and contemporary clawhammer banjo playing, Moon also weaves fingerstyle guitar,piano, and lap dulcimer into her performances. While rooted in old-time traditions, she brings afresh, boundary-pushing energy that has earned her recognition in international folk and old-time music communities.
What began in living rooms and DIY spaces has grown into a dynamic touring career. Moon hasperformed at major folk festivals, toured extensively across North America, Central America, theUK, and Europe, and in 2022, she opened for her father on his final cross-Canada tour. In 2024,she made her debut on NPR’s Mountain Stage and has shared the stage with numerousrespected artists in the folk and roots scenes. We are honoured to invite her to take the Hugh’sRoom stage.

It’s a show about four boys: one born duringan air raid, one who had to reverse the strings on his guitar to make sense of it, one who stayedup late practicing with tears in his eyes and another who couldn’t read or write until he waseight. It’s also the story of a visionary young producer who was desperate to find his way out ofthe comedy division at Parlophone records. Hear how their story was affected by heartbreak,the classical greats, two world wars and by oppressed musicians in the Deep South and howthat same band was turned down by 80% of the English recording market yet defied the odds tobecome the most successful musical group in history.
Creator Haley Marie is a touring musician and holds a Master's of Music from Yale University.She is a three-time Carnegie Hall performer and music historian.

Wrath Month: Louder Than Pride is a QTBIPOC alternative music show by GRRRL Spells, featuring local gothic, punk, metal, and alternative bands and artists who are usually deemed too “weird," "scary," or “different” for mainstream and corporate-funded Pride month events. On this night, we bring back the riot and trade dance beats for a mosh pit!
GRRRL Spells is a horror and occult inspired queer and trans art and apparel brand, combining riot grrrl attitude with goth aesthetics and the gay agenda. With Wrath Month, we expand on our love for queer and alternative subculture and aim to advocate for QTBIPOC representation in the alternative scene by creating spaces for the genre and community that is often overlooked. Wrath Month: Louder Than Pride will be debuting at Rhubarb! After Dark as a pilot event for what we hope will become it's own full fledged festival in the future.

Sophie Ogilvie is a singer and songwriter based in Montréal, Quebec. Approaching songwriting with the confessional lyricism of folk and an indie rock penchant for pop song structures, Ogilvie’s sound is set apart by her deft command of the voice. On her sophomore EP Resignations, Ogilvie matches harsh guitar tones with rich, sultry vocals. InstagramHis His is the recording project of Toronto-based artist Aidan Belo. He combines elements of Greenwich Village-inspired folk, contemporary indie folk, coupled with low fidelity analog production to create something that sounds honest and melancholic. Since the first His His release in late 2020, this project has generated more than 500,000 streams across Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music, and has been featured on Indie88. Everything was recorded in the empty space of an old wood barn on his family’s farm which has been temporarily converted into a makeshift studio, where everything is recorded entirely to 1⁄4 inch tape and cassette. His His made their live debut at POP International Music Festival 2022 in Montreal. Instagramaniqa dear is the Toronto based experimental electronic art pop project stemming from the Pakistani/Indian and Arabic influences of songwriter and artist Aniqa Qadir. It is rooted in queerness, migration, otherness, rebirth, and the eternally intertwining dance between belonging and isolation. aniqa dear asks intently if you have ever danced into your own abyss, and she invites you in. Somewhere between, Alt-Country, indie pop and Singer/songwriter, emerging artist Lauryn Macfarlane is paving her own path in today's music industry. Originally from Peterborough, ON, Lauryn spent her 2015-2018 years enrolled in a Music Business Management program at Durham College in Oshawa, ON. After graduation, she moved to Montreal, QC and began getting involved in the local music scene. In 2019, Lauryn began working alongside producer/engineer Sam Woywitka (Luca Fogale, Half Moon Run) and musicians Isaac Symonds (Half Moon Run), Mishka Stein (Patrick Watson), and Robbie Kuster (Patrick Watson).In December 2020, Lauryn’s debut single, “Friendly” was released via IndiePool and was featured on Spotify editorial playlist New Music Friday Canada, where she garnered the attention of booking agent Adam Countryman from Artist Group International. It wasn’t long after this that Lauryn signed with Adam to be an act under his roster. Due to COVID, Lauryn was not able to see the full benefits of having an experienced booking agent but was able to be booked for Ottawa Bluesfest and the Peterborough Folk Festival in 2021.In August 2021, Lauryn Macfarlane was named the Peterborough Folk Festival’s 2021 Emerging Artist (https://bit.ly/3shRaRi)In the summer of 2022, Thanks to support from FACTOR (Artist development) and SOCAN (Socan LA house) Lauryn had the opportunity to go to LA and work with Grammy award winning Montreal born producer Jason Kellner. It was there she wrote and recorded “Dive” which was released in 2023.Lauryn just released her debut EP “No Mercy” back in October 2025. No Mercy was recorded in Winnipeg Manitoba with producer/artist Roman Clarke (Brothers Landreth, Boy Golden, Taylor Janzen) and is excited to bring these songs on the road.

Like its ambisextrous namesake, Buddies’ in-house bar and performance space Tallulah’s Cabaret does it all. It’s throbbing club nights and community tap dance lessons. Les Femmes Fatales Presents... Get C*ntry... Hell In High Heels

enemies, lovers is an indie/pop band based in Toronto led by singer-songwriter, Hatley Edmonds, and guitarist and producer, Marcus Gwyn-Neumann. The group formed in 2023 and released their debut EP, What You Wanted, in 2024. For two years, the band has performed across Toronto to sold-out audiences, including at NXNE and Sofar Sounds. Their sound is a blend of country, rock, pop, and folk, supported by honest, heartfelt lyrics that resonate deeply with their audience. Their unique sound and upbeat stage presence has drawn comparisons to Maggie Rogers, Julia Jacklin, and Kacy Hill. Hatley and Marcus are now working on their debut full-length album.

Three-time JUNO nominee Suzie Ungerleider (formerly Oh Susanna) returns to Toronto to celebrate her luminous new album, Among the Evergreens—a collection hailed by UNCUT as “thoughtful, luminous, expressive” and by MOJO as “as sweet as folk-Americana comes.” The record traces Suzie’s journey from youthful dreams to the wisdom of experience, with nature-rich imagery and story-songs that land like letters from an old friend.
Originally planned for October, this special album-release concert has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Suzie will be joined by longtime collaborators Nichol Robertson (guitar) and Vivienne Wilder (bass), bringing her songs to life with warmth, intimacy, and exquisite musicianship. The following artists will be performing:
Nii Osabu is a Ghanaian musician currently based in Toronto. He is the founder andlead vocalist of the AfroBoys Band and plays solo shows as well. Three of his songswere in the docuseries Beads Build Bridges featured in the Los Angeles’ Pan AfricanFilm Festival. In Canada, Nii Osabu has performed at festivals like the Habari AfricanFestival, Family Day festival by Aga Khan Museum, Ghanafest and at venues such asthe Royal Ontario Museum, Drom Taberna and many others.
 Dipo is a Nigeria-born, Canada-based artist who blends soul, R&amp;B, jazz, folk, highlifeand Fuji, capturing hearts with velvety vocals and genre-bending style. While in Nigeria,he broke onto the music scene by making it to the top five on the talent show Nokia FirstChance. Dipo has shared the stage with some of Nigeria’s greatest. He opened for ASAat her debut concert and also opened for 2Face Idibia and D’banj. His style of music isinfluenced by great musicians including Fela Kuti, Al Green, Lionel Richie, StevieWonder and Marvin Gaye.
Sintayehu ‘Mimi’ Zenebe and Abebe FikadeSintayehu ‘Mimi’ Zenebe is a talented singer, songwriter and dancer, hailing from amusical family and known as the “Edith Piaf” of Ethiopia. She has been performingtraditional music from a young age and has shared the stage with many Ethiopianartists and groups. Zenebe was the vocalist for U.K.’s Dub Colossus, touringinternationally and recording albums released on Real World Records. She hasperfected her skills as a vocalist, dancer and performer of Azmari songs. She hasreleased a number of singles and albums including her latest, Yegeremegn, inDecember 2024.Abebe Fikade comes from a long line of Azmari from the Gondar regions performingsongs with traditional and contemporary themes. He is a masenqo (single-stringedfiddle) player, vocalist and composer, who performs the monochord music of theAzmari. He has performed at the Habari Africa Festival, Sounds of Saba at Alliance
Francaise, Ethiopia, A Musical Perspective at Glenn Gould Studio and Luminatofestival, as well as various Ethiopian restaurants, community events, festivals and clubs.
David J.David J. is a South Sudanese-Canadian musician and activist from a family ofmusicians. He is a skilled guitarist in many music genres including reggae, soukous,rumba, afrobeats and zouk. Living in Alberta from 2011 to 2019, David was immersed inAfrican music, performing with his band at many festivals and venues, including theCalgary Stampede. He moved to Ottawa and quickly became a fixture on the Africanmusic scene there and in Montreal. He is now based in Toronto.
Ruth Mathiang is a singer/songwriter whose elegant melodic sound has been described as a mixture of traditional African music with folk, soul, jazz and reggae inspired. Singing in Arabic, Kiswahili and English, she recorded her first CD “My Cry, Peace” in Prince Edward Island, depicting her difficult life growing up in war-ravaged Southern Sudan. Ruth Mathiang uses her voice and talent to advocate for important social issues.  Her songs express longing for the importance of social justice, timeless fight for equality, and the dream of world peace. Ruth has performed for non-profit agencies that work in Africa in sectors such as human rights, women and children issues, primary health care and community development. Ruth seems to be on a path reminiscent of past activist voices, the late Miriam Makeba and the socially conscious Tracey Chapman, her musical heroes. 
ṢẹwàṢẹwà is a Toronto-based Nigerian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and buddingproducer blending Afrobeat, Fuji, jazz, R&amp;B, soul/blues, and pop. A fan once describedher voice as “the after-smell of rain.” After selling out her first Nigerian concert in 2021,she moved to Toronto, completed Seneca College’s music program, and has sinceheadlined sold-out shows and opened for artists like Asa, Johnny Drille and Kiss Daniel.With two EPs out and an album called Detox released in 2025, Ṣẹwà’s soulful soundand vivid storytelling continue to connect cultures and captivate audiences acrossstages and streaming platforms.

New Hue is the artistic project of the 24-year-old multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Jakob Russell. He blends elements of bedroom pop and indie music to create an optimistic and relaxing sound. He spends his musical time sitting in the comfort of his bedroom, writing and recording his music. He released his first EP titled "Letters From a Loved One" at the start of 2024. He wrote, played all the instruments, except the drums, and recorded everything at home. Since then, he has been inspired to continue writing and recording music, his own music.
