We invite you to join us in the Eastwood Collegiate Institute Auditorium for Ignite - a 2 act variety show featuring student performances in music, dance, drama as well as the occasional surprise.  Visit the Juried Studio Art Exhibition in the Drama Room and the Film and Animation Showcase in the Library before the show and during intermission.  Students from Eastwood's Integrated Arts Program are the performers, production crew, artists and film makers.

What are Tickets for a Cause?
These early bird tickets are perfect for those who would like to purchase a ticket and make a donation to the IAP Student Assistance Fund.  This fund provides financial assistance to students from all areas of the IAP in need as determined by an Eastwood staff member.  This could include help to cover club fees, field trip payments, registration fees, etc.  
These tickets are $40.  Half of the ticket price covers the cost of your ticket and gives you early access to seat selection.  The rest is put directly in the IAP Student Assistance Fund.
Tax Deductible Donations to the Integrated Arts Program:
All donations can be made through the Waterloo Education Foundation Inc. (WEFI) online portal. Please select Eastwood C.I. from the fund drop down and indicate that your donation is for the “Integrated Arts Program – Account #0062” in the message field. Tax-deductible receipts will be issued automatically through WEFI.
Raffle and Concession Information:
A raffle table with exciting prizes will be in the lobby during each show.  Raffle tickets (cash only) are 1 ticket for $5 or 3 tickets for $10.  Prizes will be drawn before the end of each performance.  Concessions will be available for purchase as well.
More about the Integrated Arts Program and Gala:
For nearly 40 years, Eastwood Collegiate Institute (ECI) has been home to the Waterloo Region District School Board's Integrated Arts Program (IAP).  This unique program offers students an enhanced arts experience in drama, instrumental and vocal music, dance, fine art, graphic design, media arts, and production technology.  Students have the opportunity to 'Find Their Art' by exploring and integrating multiple disciplines throughout their time at ECI.
The enriched education and extracurricular activities offered to students in the IAP rely heavily on fundraising efforts.  Our annual Gala is an opportunity for our families, friends and community at large to help us raise much needed money for this wonderful art program to continue inspiring creative students from all corners of the Region of Waterloo and beyond.

The upper Weber Street doors and those from the staff parking lot entering from Jackson Street and student parking lot entering from Montgomery Avenue will be open to the public one hour before show time.  Elevator access is available via the staff parking lot off Jackson Street.  Doors to the auditorium will open half an hour before show time.  Late arrivals should go to the Weber Street upper doors for entry.

Lynn McDonald presents Don Ross and Julie Malia in concert!
Lynn is thrilled to welcome Don Ross back to Port Perry for his occasional series featuring guest musicians from around the world. This time, his cohort is the wonderful guitarist and vocalist Julie Malia, all the way from Germany.
Don and Julie have been performing together for the last two years internationally, with shows in Germany, Austria, Italy, the UK, the USA, and across Canada. They showcase their high-end talents as guitarists and their complementary talents as vocalists, playing a mixture of original music and beautiful arrangements of contemporary music.
Once again, Lynn brings the music to the beautiful confines of the Anglican Church of the Ascension in Port Perry, Ontario for a Wednesday matinee show. The concert will feature some of the recent singles that Julie and Don have released together, as well as music from Julie's latest solo album, entitled SEAGULL, and all kinds of music from the past 35 years of Don's recorded career. The HANES CORN MAZE is a human sized puzzle, carved into over 18 acres of 10' tall walls of cornstalks! Find all the checkpoints and solve the puzzle. This is an event for all ages, bring the kids for help!

Expect the Maze to take between 1-2 hours to complete depending on your age, experience, weather, and day or night.

A musical evening featuring WomEnchant Chorus & Drummers, hosted by Niagara Peninsula Conservation Foundation.
Now in its fourth year, the Winter Solstice Concert will again take place at scenic Ball's Falls in celebration of the changing season. 
Set in the beautiful Glen Elgin Room of the Centre for Conservation, the event embraces nature on the verge of winter and aims to raise funds to protect our cherished wilderness.  
JOIN US as we bask in the warmth of music and fellowship and welcome the season of rest and renewal.
Funds raised through this event support restoration and education programs in the Niagara Peninsula watershed and help protect Niagara's natural legacy - now and into the future.

 Unleash your creativity and curiosity in our Introductory Taxidermy Class! Designed for beginners, this hands-on course offers a fascinating glimpse into the art and science of taxidermy.
Class begins promptly at 10am and ends at 4pm.
We provide each student with either a skinned, cleaned, and tanned racoon, opossum, or rat hide depending on the workshop you are taking.
The first half of class is focused on preparing your form, setting the eyes, test fitting and mounting the hide, as well as grooming.
After our first 30-minute break class shifts towards plaque preparation and mounting your project.
The class runs for approximately 6 hours with two 30-minute breaks throughout the day.

Sunset Moths Entomology Class $150USD Unlock the artistry of entomology in our Introductory Bug Pinning Workshop! This hands-on experience is perfect for nature enthusiasts, aspiring entomologists, or anyone interested in the intricate craft of insect preservation. Join us as we guide you through the techniques of preparing and pining insects, transforming them into beautiful, display-ready specimens.
The AM class will begin promptly at 10am and last 2.5 hours.
You will learn the foundational skills of bug pinning, including safe collection methods, proper handling, and the step-by-step process of pinning and mounting your specimen.
Class exclusive!: Two specimens for the price of one!
Your first specimen will be a moth or butterfly that will be used to practice your newly learned pinning technique. Once you’ve completed this step we will move on to creating your unique frame and placing your Sunset Moth in its display case.
We will familiarize you with the tools of the trade, pinning supplies, insect boxes, and preservation techniques. We’ll provide all necessary materials for your workshop experience. Explore creative ways to arrange and display your pinned insects, turning your specimens into captivating works of art that reflect your personal style.

Don Ross and Julie Malia, both well-established solo performers, decided to form anew musical partnership. While continuing to play solo internationally, Don and Juliehave been performing many of their shows as a double bill since the fall of 2023. In2024, they gave 45 concert performances in Germany, the UK, Canada and the USA.They have continued the habit in 2025, having toured together on both sides of theAtlantic.
Don Ross was born and raised in Montreal and has lived in various parts of Canadaover the course of his life. The son of a Mi’kmaw Indigenous mother and a Scottishimmigrant father, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music) degree fromToronto’s York University and started working full-time as a musician in 1988.
Julie Malia (AKA Jule Malischke) is a highly talented guitarist, singer and songwriterwho has made a name for herself in recent years with great compositions andimpressive festival appearances. Originally from Swabia in southern Germany, she alsoworks as a lecturer at the Carl Maria von Weber Music University in Dresden, Germany.
Julie is one of the most sought-after soloists on the European acoustic scene. Herrepertoire covers an impressively broad musical spectrum – from self-penned heartfeltsongs, very original song-cover arrangements, and diverse virtuoso styles on theclassical guitar through to modern fingerstyle arrangements. Hangul is a Toronto based Indie/Alt Rock band lead by Mir Kashif Iqbal, a Kashmiri singer-songwriter, guitarist, and music producer now based in Toronto, Canada. Hangul borrows its name from the endangered indigenous species of Deer found in Kashmir. The band’s music is a mix of Alternative/Indie Folk/Prog/Jam Rock. The band released its first Live EP (Live at The Root Down) consisting of 3 songs back in October 2024 and is currently working on its debut LP set to release later this year. Mir Kashif Iqbal TrioMir Kashif Iqbal is a Kashmiri singer-songwriter, guitarist, and music producer now based in Toronto, Canada. He is best known for being the co-founder, lead guitarist and co-songwriter for the rock band Parvaaz which was touted the "Most Exciting Band in India" by Rolling Stone Magazine in 2018. After a decade of touring, recording, and writing with Parvaaz, where Kashif played over 500 live gigs, in 2021 Kashif parted ways with the band and started his solo journey with the release of his Album “Peak Wave Descent” followed up by the Live EP titled "Adaptation" in 2022. Gabriel Dharmoo’s Bijuriya code-switches between drag, song, and sound as it navigates its creator’s dual personas. Through an exuberant medley of drag and humour, as well as an eclectic array of musical genres — ranging from original pop tunes to experimental soundscapes and Bollywood soundtracks — this performance playfully examines the role of vocality in self-expression, utilizing song, speech, and lip-syncing as tools for exploring cultural identity. 
Gabriel and Bijuriya’s self-reflexive dialogue offers profound insight into the fluidity of human experience.

PATTI LOACH:
Patti Loach is a pint-sized, flaxen-haired dynamo, whose fingers have flown acrosspiano keys since she was six years old. A graduate of both the Royal Conservatory ofMusic and the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music, she initially trained as a classicalpianist but quickly fell in love with a colourful array of more-contemporary genres,including musical theatre, the Great American Songbook, and the anything-goes, wild-and-wonderful world of cabaret, which helped her fine-tune her skills, hone her artistryand truly flourish as a performer. The Jitters ride again! The band that formed in Toronto in 1981 (and allegedly broke upten years later) continues to occasionally get together and make music. Last seenperforming live in 2019, Blair, Danny, Matt and David are still the rocking pop bandthey’ve always been. In the 80s, the band opened for The Kinks, The Byrds, HueyLewis and the News, Colin James and more. March 1988 saw them support Heart in theUK, closing off the tour with three sold-out nights at Wembley Arena where The Jittersreceived standing ovations. Last of the Red Hot Fools not only became a Top Twentysingle in Canada, it broke into the BBC’s Hot 100.They were always video favourites with their indie single Take Me As I Am and their1990 song ’Til theFever Breaks which rose to #4 on the MuchMusic countdown. Nominated for a JUNO in1988, The Jitters won the Toronto Music Award for Best Rising Stars in 1990. At Hugh’sRoom, as in past appearances, the band promises to break out the old songs as well asa few new surprises. Friday November 28.

The show will begin with the discoveries artists, followed by a full set from Kaiso Street Legacy Ensemble!
Discoveries Vol. 7 is hosted and curated by Jesse Ryan, a Trinidadian born, JUNO nominatedsaxophonist and leader of the The Kaiso Street Legacy Ensemble, whose main focus ispresenting fresh arrangements of music from the golden age of calypso, re-imagined throughthe lens of modern jazz. Rooted in storytelling and cultural preservation, the group bridges erasof Caribbean creativity through dynamic performances and musical excellence. Their currentproject reimagines the groundbreaking Caribana ’67 concert – Toronto’s first major Calypsoshowcase held on Centre Island – bringing new life to the sounds that helped shape the city’scultural identity. The ensemble also features Steve Clarke (voice), Alexis Baro (trumpet), PaulTarusov (trombone), Ewen Farncombe (piano), Jullian Anderson-Bowes (bass), Amhed Mitchel(drums) and Derek Thorne (percussion). The Kaiso Street Legacy Ensemble will be performingduring the second half of the show. For the first half, Jesse Ryan has curated a lineup of youngCaribbean-Canadian and Latino-Canadian artists to truly showcase global sounds and talent.
These artists include:
Gareth BurgessCanadian-born with Trinidadian roots, Gareth Burgess is a skilled steel pan player who hasarranged and performed with leading steel orchestras worldwide, including at Toronto’sCaribana competitions. Gareth, a seasoned Steel Pan player of 20+ years, has quickly becomeone of Canada's top jazz soloists with refined technique. He has played with three of Toronto'stop Steelband Orchestras, including Afropan and the Caribbean Jazz Collective, and hasworked with renowned arrangers in Canada.
Luis AnselmiVenezuelan multi-instrumentalist and Latin Grammy scholar Luis Anselmi blends his roots withglobal sounds, performing on the cuatro, piano, and voice to create rich, cross-cultural music.His band Gratitud creates a vibrant Latin-World sound that seamlessly blends each member'sunique cultural background. With intricate rhythms and uplifting lyrics, their music is acaptivating celebration that will inspire you to dance!
Derek ThorneTrinidad-born, Toronto-based percussionist Derek Thorne fuses Afro-Caribbean and WestAfrican rhythms, performing with groups like Ballet Creole, Rouso and Waleed Abdulhamid.Derek began his career learning congas in Montreal in 1991. He studied Latin and Caribbeanpercussion with Cuban legend Changuito and Toronto salsa doyen Luis Orbegoso. In WestAfrica, he learned traditional percussion under master drummers Amadou Kienou and AmaraKanté. Based in Toronto since 1998, Derek has been a rhythmic staple in the city’s music sceneperforming with R&B/funk outfit The Soul Motivators, with Zaki Ibrahim opening for Erykah Baduat Massey Hall, and performing at Canadian Music Week, Luminato, and Panamania.
Mr. WonderfulA respected calypsonian and cultural ambassador on Toronto’s Caribbean music scene, Mr.Wonderful is a two-time finalist in the Organization of Calypso Performing Artistes (OCPA)Calypso Monarch Competition. He has also performed with the renowned La Petite Musicale.Known for his masterful storytelling and infectious energy, Mr. Wonderful brings warmth, wit andauthenticity to every stage he graces.
Dánae Olano
Dánae Olano was born and raised in the musical melting pot of Havana, Cuba. She began classical musical studies at age 7 at the Alejandro García Caturla Music School, continuing at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory of Music. She graduated from the University of Arts (ISA) in Havana as an accompanying and solo pianist, obtaining the Piano Cum Laude distinction.
Her professional career began to blossom while studying in university. There, she made incursions into theatre music, being part of recognized companies like El Ingenio and Teatro de la Luna. During that time, she was also a co-founder of the band Alami, immersing herself and fellow Cuban-Canadian singer Dayme Arocena into jazz music. She was also a founding member of Banda XX, conducted by drummer Yissy García.
Currently, Dánae is best known in North America as a founding member of the all-female band Jane Bunnett and Maqueque, which since its formation in 2013 has earned a Juno Award and been nominated on one other occasion, as well as earning a Grammy nomination. She is the band’s pianist and also sings, composes, and arranges for this renowned ensemble. She has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious jazz clubs, including Birdland, The Blue Note and Bimhuis as well as at top festivals such as the Monterrey, Newport and Saratoga Jazz Festivals in addition to Jazz al Parque in Bogota, Colombia. In 2018 she shared stage with pianists Jason Moran, James Francis, Booker T. Jones and Jane Bunnett as part of NPR’s “A Jazz Piano Christmas”, which was hosted by Felix Contreras at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.
In March 2024, Olano released her debut album, Children's Corner, which is a scintillating combination of original music, along with a powerful version of "Un Poco Loco" by Bud Powell.
