 Unleash your creativity and curiosity in our Introductory Taxidermy Class! Designed for beginners, this hands-on course offers a fascinating glimpse into the art and science of taxidermy.
Class begins promptly at 10am and ends at 4pm.
We provide each student with either a skinned, cleaned, and tanned racoon, opossum, or rat hide depending on the workshop you are taking.
The first half of class is focused on preparing your form, setting the eyes, test fitting and mounting the hide, as well as grooming.
After our first 30-minute break class shifts towards plaque preparation and mounting your project.
The class runs for approximately 6 hours with two 30-minute breaks throughout the day.

Sunset Moths Entomology Class $150USD Unlock the artistry of entomology in our Introductory Bug Pinning Workshop! This hands-on experience is perfect for nature enthusiasts, aspiring entomologists, or anyone interested in the intricate craft of insect preservation. Join us as we guide you through the techniques of preparing and pining insects, transforming them into beautiful, display-ready specimens.
The AM class will begin promptly at 10am and last 2.5 hours.
You will learn the foundational skills of bug pinning, including safe collection methods, proper handling, and the step-by-step process of pinning and mounting your specimen.
Class exclusive!: Two specimens for the price of one!
Your first specimen will be a moth or butterfly that will be used to practice your newly learned pinning technique. Once you’ve completed this step we will move on to creating your unique frame and placing your Sunset Moth in its display case.
We will familiarize you with the tools of the trade, pinning supplies, insect boxes, and preservation techniques. We’ll provide all necessary materials for your workshop experience. Headliner:
Laurie Elliott is a stand-up comic, actor and television writer. She is a winner of the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award and is a four-time winner of Best Female Stand Up at The Canadian Comedy Awards. Her stand-up credits include the Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival (where she was chosen by the late, great Joan Rivers to perform on her final Gala show), the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Comedy Factory in Rotterdam, Raw Comedy Club in Stockholm, the SheDot Comedy Festival in Toronto, and a gala run at the Cape Town International Comedy Festival in South Africa. She has had recurring roles/appearances on MuchMusic’s Video on Trial, CBC’s The Red Green Show (she married Harold!), The Jon Dore Television Show, Match Game and The Debaters. Laurie’s voice can be heard on many animated series such as Total Drama Island, Scaredy Squirrel, and Camp Lakebottom. Laurie was also a regular on WWF star Chris Jericho’s award winning web series, But I’m Chris Jericho. Writing credits include five seasons of the Total Drama Series, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Rocket Monkeys, Camp Lakebottom, Fugget About It, Showcase’s Almost Heroes, Disney’s My Babysitter’s a Vampire, Hulu’s original series Mother Up starring Eva Longoria. Laurie is currently co-show running a series for YTV called, The Three Amigonauts. Laurie recently opened for the hilarious Arsenio Hall and he was a delight!Feature:  
George Rivard was adopted from Sierra Leone by Canadian parents and was raised in the Yukon in a community of 30,000 people. Facing adversity as a young black child in a small community, comedy, and entertainment became his main calling. Whether it be breakdancing, music, acting, cooking, entertaining, or just making his friends laugh, George has been performing for 13 years, finding his stride within the last 10 years in Toronto. George has recently recorded with Just for Laughs originals, and Underground Comedy Railroad for Comedy Records. He is a regular comic at Comedy Bar, Corner Comedy Club, and Absolute Comedy Club. George is also no stranger to appearing in Indie  films and sketch comedy projects. Relatable, outgoing, and unapologetically Canadian! 
Feature: 
Liam Andres has been performing as a host and stand-up comedian in Toronto for the past seven years.  He has performed across Canada and throughout the Greater Toronto Area at notable venues including Yuk Yuk’s, Comedy Bar, Corner Comedy Club, Massey Hall, and the Royal Cinema. Liam has hosted and performed at comedy clubs, theatres, and private corporate events. His comedy is rooted in autobiographical storytelling, blending personal experiences with absurdist observations and a unique perspective on everyday life.

This summer, the World Squash Junior Championships return to Canada for the first time since the early 1980s, when Ottawa hosted the inaugural junior women’s championships in 1981 and Calgary hosted the junior men in 1984.
Hosted at the Mark Sachvie Squash Centre and the Jack Aylott Centre, at White Oaks Resort and Spa and Ridley College respectively, the tournament will host the world’s leading Under-19 athletes for nearly two weeks of competition from July 20th to 31st.

Music Niagara proudly welcomes the acclaimed piano trio FortVio for their Music Niagara debut, celebrating their 20th anniversary season with a captivating and imaginative program.
Comprised of Indrė Baikštytė (piano), Ingrida Rupaitė (violin), and Povilas Jacunskas (cello), FortVio has earned international recognition for their vivid, expressive performances and distinctive artistic voice. Laureates of the Government’s Culture and Art Award of the Republic of Lithuania, the trio is celebrated for its ability to blend technical brilliance with spontaneity, depth, and a uniquely theatrical sense of storytelling.
Their program, “Between Music and Theatre,” explores the fascinating intersection of music and the dramatic arts—featuring works inspired by theatre, film, and visual art. The evening will include a rich and engaging selection of repertoire by Haydn, Schubert, Rebecca Clarke, Astor Piazzolla, alongside compelling works by Faustas Latenas, and other Lithuanian composers, creating a dynamic journey across styles, eras, and artistic influences.
Since their formation in 2006, FortVio has quickly risen to international prominence, winning top prizes at major competitions including the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria and the Stasys Vainiūnas Competition in Lithuania. They have performed extensively across Europe and beyond, and are members of the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA).
Described as “an ensemble like a theatre group gathered under mysterious laws of nature,” FortVio brings an engaging, almost cinematic quality to their performances—where music unfolds with drama, colour, and emotional intensity.

Come out for a night of songwriter and pop-rock music supporting the local Toronto frisbee community!Chiara Urban is a Toronto-based singer, songwriter, and composer creating alternative pop-rock inspired by artists like Evanescence and Alanis Morissette. A UofT graduate in classical composition, she blends orchestral influences with hard-hitting rock to create a sound that's both melodic and energetic. Her music has earned over 50,000 streams across two EPs, received radio play in Canada and the UK, and has been performed at venues throughout the GTA.

Join Saulteaux/Métis educator and memory activist Sam Howden and settler scholar and artist Andrew Lochhead on a guided walk, bringing the idea of Land Acknowledgements out of the Bata Shoe Museum’s walls and onto the Land itself, in the area currently known as The Annex.
Land acknowledgements can be powerful. At their best, they affirm belonging, recognize ongoing injustices, and help build meaningful relationships between people and the more-than-human world around us. But as these practices become more institutionalized, they can risk feeling routine—words spoken without deeper action toward Indigenous sovereignty or true settler–Indigenous conciliation.
Together, we’ll follow the paths of buried streams, discover native plant species and traditional medicines, observe urban wildlife, and explore layers of local history and architecture. Along the way, we’ll reflect on walking as a form of witnessing—and consider the social and political complexities of moving through treaty Land, especially when the treaties that govern it have so often been broken.
This is an invitation to slow down, listen closely, and think differently about our relationship to the Land beneath our feet.
The walk will take up to two hours, please wear comfortable shoes.

About the Facilitators
Sam Howden, MSW, BSW, RSW (they/them) is an Indigenous social worker and educator. 
Their scholarly work focuses on autoethnographic approaches to storytelling in the context of student memory activism at what is now called Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). Specifically their thesis project focussed on efforts to address the commemoration of Egerton Ryerson, that would lead to the removal of the Ryerson statue on campus, and the subsequent decision to rename the university. Sam’s practice in both academics and social work is guided by a deep connection to Land, and principles of humility, service, and relational accountability informed by their experiences as a traditional helper in lodge and ceremony. 
Sam is of mixed European and Indigenous ancestry. Their relations on their father’s side are Red River Métis (Soto/Saulteaux), belonging to the family names Gladu and Dease. Their father also has mixed European ancestry from the British Isles (Howden) and Eastern Europe (Olynick/Bileski). Their mother was adopted and raised in a French Canadian family, and later found that their biological parents belonged to Dutch (Borsboom), French, and English (Henri) ancestry. 
Sam currently works as a contract lecturer at TMU in the Department of Social Work, and maintains a private therapy practice.
Andrew Lochhead, is an artist and scholar who uses walking as a form of creative practice and research to bring to life stories about the city in ways that orient audiences toward imagining justice-based futures. A lifelong museum and gallery professional, Andrew has been an outspoken advocate for understanding how monuments, place names, and other forms of commemoration shape people’s relationships to places and to each other. His work as part of the public history campaign around the name of Dundas Street has contributed to significant changes to Toronto’s toponymic landscape, the development of new commemorative policy, and ongoing conversations about who or what Canada’s largest city remembers. Andrew’s research and activism has been featured in a number of documentary films and programs, including the BAFTA Award winning Scotland, Slavery, and Statues. His PhD dissertation explores the role of walking in interpreting urban heritage landscapes.
Sam and Andrew have previously collaborated on walking projects such as Reclaiming and Renaming: Indigenous Placemaking at X University, that investigated the relationship between the built and natural environment of TMU’s campus. They also appeared together in the 2023 CityTV program What’s In a Name? that explored contemporary debates about place names in Toronto and beyond.

Since most of the music in "Fire and Frost" is mostly orchestral and we lack the space for a live orchestra, the concert will be split into two parts: first, a screening of 12 short films produced as visual accompaniment to select pieces from the album (like non-lyrical music videos), followed by an hour long set of live music performed by Kai and his band (Josie Smith, Curran McConnell, and Julia DeMarchi). Bring your Fire and bring your Frost! (The dress code is Fire and Frost, if you wish to dress up).

Grace Clark:Growing up in Yellowknife, on the edge of the arctic circle, Métis artist Grace Clark draws inspiration from nature and seasons in the north, creating a dynamic Indie Pop sound. Grace’s sweet melodies and passionate lyrics build a delicate, enticing world reflecting on love, loss, and the world around her.Her latest release, 'Chicago', talks about feeling out of place in a new city, after moving from Yellowknife to Montreal to pursue her studies in music. Grace released her first single ‘Untouchable’ in June of 2020, with Yellowknife producer David Dowe, followed by a live EP recorded in British Columbia and released in June of 2021. Grace’s voice is what drives her the most, and you will surely see this growing artist paving her own path in the music industry.

Aster Alice is a nomadic, Ontario based singer-songwriter. Having grown up in British Columbia, she takes inspiration from the perennial relationship she nurtured with nature throughout her life. Described as a hurricane in a woman, she exudes passion through her art. Inspired by artists including Sammy Rae & The Friends, Lime Cordiale, and Aurora, her playing is powerfully evocative, blending both feelings and storytelling into her performances. Joining OPTA gives you the chance to connect with industry professionals, to network, to learn tips and tricks of the trade and to troubleshoot ticketing issues with those who can offer real-world advice. 
OPTA members manage ticket offices in the performing arts, stadiums, universities, art galleries, attractions, to name a few, and/or provide services to support the industry.
Membership is limited to all organizations with a ticketing presence. We will ask you to provide your title and name of your organization upon processing your payment. The OPTA Board has the right to refund if the criteria for membership has not been met.
