For the ninth consecutive year, If You Ask Me (IYAM) has supported emerging filmmakers with lived mental health and/or addiction experiences to create new short films. This year’s program features shorts by filmmakers from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). These new films were developed from July – September 2025 under the guidance of Robin Riad, along with IYAM alumnus Esteban Powell serving as mentor. Equipment rentals and facilities were generously provided by our community sponsor and partner, LIFT.

Brave the darkness as we explore the ghostly haunts of the Old Town of York and the early City. Hear tales of dread and mystery from those who walked Toronto's streets before us and visit some of the oldest (most haunted!) buildings that date back to the City's 1793 colonial inception. The walk will proceed rain or shine, so please dress for the weather.All tours will start at Campbell House Museum (160 Queen Street West) and will end at Toronto's First Post Office Museum (260 Adelaide Street East). Pre-registration is required and spots are limited!

Denis Côté's documentary Paul finds its eponymous protagonist figuring out how to take control of his life. Weighing 300 lbs and struggling with depression and social anxiety, the film chronicles Paul's unconventional path towards turning his life around. Paul finds solace in taking on the role of a "simp" (a man who excessively dotes on someone who doesn't reciprocate their affection). He spends his days on his hands and knees cleaning the homes of various dominatrices before going home and sharing his experiences with his burgeoning social media audience.
Côté crafts one of the year's most unconventional explorations of healing, self-improvement, and human connection. Paul emerges as a sweet and inspiring portrait of someone having the bravery to defy social norms in the pursuit of self-fulfillment. With shades of Wim Wenders' modest masterpiece Perfect Days, Paul suggests mindful commitment to repetitive tasks can strengthen resilience while bringing meaning and satisfaction to everyday life.

Brothers Ziad and Moody spend their last moments in the family home they’re forced to leave due to a scheduled demolition as part of the city’s development plans. To pass the time while they move the furniture outside, Moody turns on the TV, which soon blares news of Palestinian home demolitions in Sheikh Jarrah, Jerusalem, casting a somber shadow over their already melancholic last day.
Director BioMahmoud Ibrahim, a 24 year old Egyptian filmmaker. He was among the first class of students to graduate from the Higher Institute of Cinema in Alexandria in 2023. He is interested in the relationship between the individual and the city, and the intersection of collective and personal archives. His debut short film "The last day" participated in Berlinale International Film Festival 75 in the Forum Expanded. Mahmoud has worked as a director, producer, cinematographer, editor, and sound designer. He co-founded HandyCam Films, an independent production company that seeks to explore new art spaces and create alternative production methods, away from centralism.

 Our journey starts at the St. Lawrence Market, Toronto’s historic marketplace dating back over 200 years.
 First up, we’ll visit a local fish market where you’ll sample wild-caught sockeye salmon cured in Canadian maple syrup.
 Then we'll visit a pub known for making one of the best versions of the "peameal bacon sandwich", also known as Canadian bacon.
 Next, you'll indulge in a popular no-bake dessert whose origin is shrouded in mystery.
 After leaving the market, you'll unearth an Indian-inspired dish that has taken Toronto by surprise and is now a staple of the city's street food scene.
 And for a great end, you'll devour the mouth-watering goodness of a classic Canadian pastry, the famous Butter Tart.

Why the St. Lawrence Market?
As Toronto's oldest market, the St. Lawrence Market's property has had a market as early as 1803. The building itself has many of its original structures still in place from 1845. We chose this spot as our main focal point on our tour because it still remains a place for history, culture and is a part of Toronto's identity.
The area that was built around this market is reflective of how old and new can coexist in cuisine, architecture and history. This is the best place to discover some of Toronto's finest cuisine at the same time as learn more about the city's fascinating history!

The Canadian Women’s Squash Open returns to downtown Toronto in 2025, bringing the world’s best players to the spectacular all-glass Jonathon Power Court inside Brookfield Place. As one of the premier stops on the PSA World Tour, the Women’s Open offers fans an unmatched opportunity to experience high-speed, high-intensity squash in an unforgettable setting.

No More News for Nancy is a spoken word, movement, and sound-based digital performance experiment exploring the connection of 24-hour news in marginalized communities. 
Nancy is a young Biracial Gen Z millennial cusp who has a very unhealthy relationship with news. Deemed too empathetic by the “system,” Nancy is placed in TIN (Trapped In News), a government program designed to desensitize people of the global majority to news. Through spoken word, dance, and music, Nancy confronts some serious life questions that she is not sure she is equipped to deal with. 
“Why do conspiracy theories exist?” “What was it like to grow up in the generation that was the birth of the digital age?” “What is the obsession with 24-hour news?” “How is access to information harmful vs. helpful?” “What is it like as a black person to consume news that causes unfathomable pain?” 
Was it the Twin Towers? The mad cowers? Or Tori, that girl who has been missing for hours?Performance includes audience "goodie bags" featuring nostalgic 90s/2000s snacks stress relief treats.

Performer BioKeira Marie Forde (Shey/They) is a multidisciplinary artist and community arts producer who has worked in culturally relevant pedagogy and the arts for over nine years.Keira’s artistic practice focuses on amplifying stories from youth (under 30) in Toronto. Recent performance credits include NYC’s Richest Man (web series), Suitable Climate with b current at SummerWorks, The Christie Pits Riot with Hogtown Collective, What’s So Funny with Carousel Players, and her original digital work No More News for Nancy with Alberta-based company Major Matt Mason Collective. In 2023–2024, No More News for Nancy underwent further research through the Creative Catalyst Dance Program at Nia Centre for the Arts.
In 2025, Keira completed a residency on the decolonization of bodies at HAUT in partnership with KRA/RAS in Denmark. In 2024, she produced and choreographed Generation Gentrified for the Paprika Festival, inspired by Toronto’s changing communities. Keira is passionate about professional arts in public spaces and shares that passion in her role as Community Arts Coordinator with Toes for Dance.
