The iconic 5X Art Party comes to Mississauga for a one-night-only celebration of art, music, identity and creative expression.
Presented as the final stop of globally renowned Panjabi artist Inkquisitive’s 15-Year World Tour, the evening celebrates 15 years of his groundbreaking creative impact.
Also known as Amandeep Singh, Inkquisitive is recognized for his bold colours, signature ink splatters and layered compositions. Blending visual storytelling with cultural commentary, his work explores identity, diaspora and self-expression through pieces that feel deeply personal while resonating across generations and communities.
The evening will also spotlight the next generation of emerging South Asian visual and media artists. Selected creators working across painting, photography, fashion, illustration, installation, multimedia, digital art, film and more will present work exploring identity, belonging, presence and cultural ownership.
Move through the exhibition, meet the featured artists and experience an immersive program featuring original artwork, live music, an artist presentation by Inkquisitive and a live auction of Inkquisitive originals.
More than an exhibition, the 5X Art Party is a space for artists and audiences to connect, exchange ideas and experience South Asian creativity presented boldly and on its own terms.

Taiwanese Hakka chef Ted Liao presents a series of immersive workshops exploring the relationship between food, land, sound, and cultural memory. Inspired by this year’s curatorial theme, “Islands in the Wind,” the experience examines how flavour can carry stories of migration, colonial history, terroir, and evolving cultural identity through the lens of Taiwanese Hakka cuisine and island botanicals.
Using Canadian ingredients such as maple syrup, seasonal fruits, and spices alongside Taiwanese elements including Grass Jelly Herb, Shiso, Lei Cha, and Shell Ginger, participants will create handcrafted cola beverages inspired by the flavours of Taiwan. Through aroma, sound, storytelling, and sensory interaction, the workshops trace the connections between colonial sugar culture, modern soda drinks, and the landscapes that shape our tastes and memories.
More than a cooking class, “Collective Island” is a shared exploration of memory, place, and the future of food. Drawing from Ted’s ongoing work in sustainable cuisine, Hakka culture, and plant-based gastronomy, the workshops invite participants to experience Taiwan through flavour, conversation, and collective discovery.
來自台灣的客籍主廚 Ted 廖永勛，將帶來一系列結合食物、土地、聲音與文化記憶的沉浸式工作坊。以本屆策展主題「風中的島嶼」為核心，透過台灣客家風味、島嶼植物、與五感體驗，重新思考飲食如何承載遷徙、殖民、風土與未來文化。
工作坊將以加拿大在地食材如楓糖、水果與香料，結合台灣仙草、紫蘇、擂茶、月桃等元素，帶領參與者親手製作具有「台灣島嶼風味」的手作可樂,同時透過氣味、聲音、飲食敘事與互動體驗，探討從殖民糖文化、現代氣泡飲，到土地風味之間的關係。
這不只是一場料理課，而是一場關於土地記憶與未來飲食的文化實驗。Ted 將以其長期關注的永續飲食、客家文化與植物性料理視角，把台灣飲食轉化為可被國際理解的感官語言，讓參與者在風味之中，重新認識台灣這座島嶼。

About the Artist
Ted Liao is a Taiwanese Hakka Chef, television host, and sustainable food innovator, best known as the co-founder and Chef of Monsoon, a Michelin-selected restaurant in Taiwan known for its contemporary plant-based Neo-Hakkanese cuisine.
Born into a Hakka family, Ted’s work explores the relationship between land, memory, migration, and flavour. Rather than replicating tradition, he reimagines Hakka food culture through a contemporary lens. He uses fermentation, wild mountain botanicals, local agriculture, and storytelling to create immersive dining experiences rooted in Taiwan’s cultural landscape.
With a background in food science and brewing technology, Ted has developed a distinctive culinary language that combines sustainability, terroir, and cultural identity. Under his direction, Monsoon was selected in the Michelin Guide Taiwan for 3 years and received the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2023 for its ingredient-driven philosophy and sustainability-focused approach.
Beyond the restaurant, Ted’s practice extends into interdisciplinary collaborations spanning art residencies, educational initiatives, cultural exchange projects, and television. His award-winning show on Hakka TV, “A Meal & A Meet,” received the Best Lifestyle Program award at the Asian Television Awards.
For Ted, cooking is never only about flavour, but a form of cultural storytelling that connects people, land, and the future.

Callum O'Neil is a Toronto based Comedian. He makes audiences laugh with his sharply written observational material making the mundane hilarious. He made his television debut in 2024 on the Canadian Screen Award nominated episode of CBC's The Winnipeg Comedy Festival, "Customer Disservice." The following year he was one of 14 comedians selected to perform on Season 6 of CBC's The New Wave of Standup. His episode, "Use Me Like The Filthy Bag I Am" was nominated for Best Comedy Special at the Canadian Screen Awards. He regularly performs across Canada.

About the Panelists
Lily Cheng, City Councillor (Toronto) 
Lily Cheng is a long-time Willowdale resident, City Councillor, and dedicated community builder who has spent more than a decade bringing neighbours together in moments of crisis, healing, and collective action. She founded North York Moms, co-founded We Love Willowdale in the aftermath of the Yonge Street tragedy, co-founded a local food bank with a holistic approach to care, and led the Willowdale COVID Response Network to support vulnerable residents.
At City Hall, Lily serves as the Mayor’s Champion to Eradicate Intimate Partner Violence and Gender-Based Violence. Her top priority is empowering residents to participate in local democracy. She keeps the community engaged through twice-weekly newsletters, regular surveys, accessible events, and her signature Spaghetti Town Halls, creating space for open dialogue and ensuring residents’ voices help shape decisions.
Lily champions thoughtful planning, innovation, and stronger community services, including advancing participatory budgeting across Willowdale and securing a future Willowdale Intercultural Hub. Her leadership is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to listening—because a stronger community starts with engaged residents.
 
Joanne Wong, Educator
Joanne Wong is a second-generation Chinese Canadian educator who is passionate about building cultures that connect people through humanizing, relational approaches. Grounded in intercultural communication, her work is especially attentive to those often overlooked and the “invisible” qualities within individuals that shape new connections, meanings, and possibilities.
Across professional and community contexts, Joanne draws on her lived experience, relational networks, and the practice of working resourcefully with those already present to support people in navigating complex systems and diverse spaces. She is a co-creator of “A Story of And,” a resource that invites reflection on the interconnectedness of all things, using East Asian racism as an entry point for conversation and collective learning.
Outside of her advocacy for systemic change, Joanne can often be found running, spending time with her kids, or doing what she does best—creatively making something out of “whatever happens to be there,” including random leftovers in her fridge.
 
Melanie Fernandez, Arts & Cultural Leader and Educator
Melanie Fernandez has over 25 years of leadership experience in the arts and cultural sectors with a focus on exploring innovative frameworks for producing and learning through community-engaged intersectional practices. Her work is rooted in inclusionary platforms that ensure postcolonial representation of racialized and Indigenous stories.
Leadership positions include; Interim Executive Director, Woodland Cultural Centre, Director Cultural Engagement & Activation Department and Artistic Producer at Harbourfront Centre; Community Arts Officer at the Ontario Arts Council, Director of Education at the Art Gallery of Ontario Currently, Melanie teaches and consults.
 
Jeanette Kong, Filmmaker
Jeanette Kong is a Jamaican-born, Chinese-Canadian documentarian who has produced and directed several films about the Hakka people. Her 2012 feature Finding Samuel Lowe: From Harlem to China aired on PBS and the Africa Channel and was the winner of the audience award at the 2015 Reelworld Film Festival in Toronto. Jeanette’s latest film, A Brief Record of My Father’s Time at Sea, has been screened at several international film festivals and aired in Canada on TVO.
 
Aiko Tomi, Pop Artist
AIKO TOMI is Taiwanese-Canadian alt pop artist. The Toronto-based provocateur writes songs with hooks, perspectives and wordplay that turn the ordinary into something worth staring at. A classically trained pianist and composer, she was trained to get it right and make it beautiful, but she'd rather get it true, even when true is strange and a bit distorted.
Her sophomore album, Everything Sparks Joy (2025), earned nominations at Taiwan's 16th Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA) for Best Alternative Pop Album and Best Electronic Song ("BOUNCE"). Animal's Awake (2023) was about reclaiming her body. Everything Sparks Joy was about surviving the contradictions running simultaneously in her mind. Her next chapter goes somewhere rawer, closer to the nerve. The Guardian named "Monolids" (from Animal's Awake) one of its top emerging tracks of the year, and "INVOICE" with Jesse Lucas became a word-of-mouth favorite in Toronto's music community. Singles have landed on Spotify's Fresh Finds, hyperpop, Fresh Finds Pop, and Fresh Finds Dance, as well as Tidal's Dance Pop, with additional coverage from Complex, CBC Radio, and Exclaim!  which praised her "lyrical deftness."
On stage, she performs as if possessed, taking up more room than her body should physically allow — kissing a 70-lb boa before dropping into a full squat, staging an Alien-vs-Sumo showdown, or scaling a stone lion mid-song. Every set feels like something that couldn't have happened any other night. She's specific enough to be unmistakable, strange enough to stay with you.
 
Tong Zhou, Visual Artist
Tong Zhou is a Toronto-based artist whose work examines identity, belonging, and the stereotypes that shape how Chinese-Canadians see themselves and each other. Born in China and now based in Toronto, he has exhibited with TAIWANfest since 2019, including The Courage, (Un)Being Chinese, and a self-portrait in the It's Me and Wǒ exhibition. His current work in progress follows a years-long spiritual journey into living with the concept of "no-self."

Hsiao-Wen Lo
Hsiao-Wen Lo loves Taiwan—and she loves puzzles. One day, she thought, Why not bring these two together? That's how Piecing Taiwan into the World was born.
She partnered with Taiwanese illustrator LiTTSE to create puzzles that invite people to discover Taiwan through beauty, curiosity, and play.
Today, she works with public libraries across the United States to share the puzzles, helping Taiwan appear in places where its stories are rarely told.
Each puzzle is her love letter to the island—and an invitation to help Taiwan find its place in the world’s imagination, one shared moment at a time.
駱筱雯是一位熱愛台灣，也熱愛拼圖的人。她發想了「把台灣拼進世界」計畫，並邀請台灣插畫家 LiTTSE 為拼圖創作圖像。透過美感、好奇與遊戲，她希望把心中的台灣溫柔地帶到世界。她與全美各地的公共圖書館合作，分享這些拼圖，讓台灣的故事走到更多地方。每一款拼圖都是她寫給這座島嶼的情書——也是一份邀請，邀請人們將台灣一片一片拚進世界想像中。

LiTTSE is an illustrator from Hsinchu, Taiwan, and the founder of LiTTSE Studio. The brand name "LiTTSE" is an original word combining "Little" and "Tse," inspired by their Chinese nickname, "小刺." Through warm and delicate hand-drawn lines, they capture streetscapes, everyday life, and cultural memories from Taiwan and around the world, transforming ordinary and familiar moments into illustrations filled with stories and emotion. Through their work, they hope to share Taiwan's distinctive warmth, culture, and beauty of everyday life with people around the world.

Luke Borchelt is a country singer, songwriter, and proud Maryland native whose music tells the story of his roots and influences. A self-taught guitarist, Luke picked up the instrument at 23 and soon began writing songs to share with those closest to him. His sound is a unique blend of classic country storytelling and the rhythms of DMV hip-hop, shaped by a diverse range of influences. Luke's music is a reflection of his upbringing in Maryland-honest, heartfelt, and always grounded in the experiences of real life. By capturing the soul of country and city, his work stands as a testament to the power of blending genres and staying true to his roots.

Anticipating the release of his second album "Silly Things," Stephen Ingram is playing a few intimate shows around Southern Ontario before his album release show in London, ON in September.Stephen fuses his love of great Canadian artists, his decade-long career in live theatre, and his training as a classical pianist and music theorist to create story-driven, intricate folk-rock music that is unmistakably and fondly set in Ontario. His second album "Silly Things," set for release in September 2026, strips back the production and leans heavily into lyrical folk and hard-hitting, confessional folk rock. The evening kicks off with a special guest performance at 9:00 PM.
Following a failed career at McDonald's, Sam moved to Montréal in order to pursue music.A decade later, he has become known for his vulnerable songwriting. While rooted in folk, his music draws heavily from early R&B, bubblegum pop, vintage crooners, and the emotive jazz stylings of singers like Billie Holiday.Depending on the night, Sam will hit the stage for a stripped-back, captivating solo performance that captures the quiet intimacy of his bedroom-style recordings, or join forces with his powerhouse collective of heavy-hitters (Tim Savard, Neil Robinson, and Brydone Charlton) for an expansive full-band set that leans more into catchy pop melodies and groove. 本節目邀請台灣知名作家張亦絢從創作歷程出發，分享文學如何回應女性的成長記憶、家庭關係，以及不同世代之間的理解與誤解。
台灣節期待透過文學作為對話的起點，鼓勵華語社區跨世代的女性參與者分享觀點與生命故事，在交流中重新理解彼此，也開啟更多關於性別、情感與生命經驗的對話。

This lecture invites renowned Taiwanese queer writer Nathalie Chang (CHANG Yi- Hsum) to examine how literature reflects the lived experiences of women. Using literature as the starting point, this program explores topics of memory, family dynamics, and intergenerational relationships. An open conversation and exchange about gender identity, emotions, and life experiences with the community.

About the Artist
張亦絢（Nathalie CHANG / CHANG Yi-Hsum）出生於台北市木柵區。青少女時期，她曾在《讀者文摘》上發表過一篇真實故事，並在全國性報紙上發表過小說。 《愛的不久時》、《性意思史》和《永別書》是她最著名的作品。其中，《永別書》被評為台灣文學的代表作之一。
儘管她被視為酷兒小說家並為LGBT+權益發聲，但她的小說仍然對基於性別或民族的認同政治進行了批判。她的作品探討了性創傷、語言和台灣命運等主題，其複雜性令人印象深刻。
她在一個對台灣民主抱持巨大期望的家庭中度過童年。這種親身經歷和孩童般的觀察保有了人們政治行動中的親密性：戒嚴時期的事件，例如美麗島事件、陳文成事件和林宅血案，如何影響兒童成長？張亦絢並不滿足於「記住歷史」這種觀念，而是強調缺乏公眾記憶會對各類受害者造成殘酷和不公。
她以《我討厭過的大人們》榮獲金鼎獎最佳專欄獎。她擁有巴黎索邦大學電影研究碩士學位。她也為《電影欣賞》和台灣文學館的展覽撰稿。兩位加拿大人對她影響深遠：作家劉綺芬和鋼琴家顧爾德。
Nathalie CHANG (CHANG Yi- Hsum) was born in Muzha District, Taipei City. 
She published a true story in Reader’s Digest and several fictional stories in national newspapers during her adolescence. Not Long in Love, Her-History of Sex, and I’m Leaving are among her most famous novels, with I’m Leaving selected as one of the most representative works of Taiwanese literature.
Although she is considered a queer novelist who advocates for LGBT+ rights, her novels also present a critique of identity politics, whether based on gender or national identity. Her work explores themes such as sexual trauma, language, and the fate of Taiwan with impressive complexity.
She spent her childhood in a family that held great expectations for democracy in Taiwan. This firsthand experience and childhood observations preserved the intimacy of popular political action: how did major events during martial law, such as the Formosa Incident, the Chen Wen-cheng Incident, and the Lin Family Massacre, affect children's development? Chang goes beyond the common notion of "remembering history," emphasizing how the lack of public memory brings cruelty and injustice to various victims.
She won the Golden Tripod Award for Best Column Writing for her work "All the Grownups Who Once Bored Me." She holds a Master's degree in Film Studies from Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris and has written for the Film Appreciation Journal and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature. Two Canadians have greatly influenced her: writer Evelyn Lau and pianist Glenn Gould.

Step away from the screens, roll up your sleeves, and get your hands gloriously, messy-happy in our pulp vats. We’re taking scrap paper and giving it a second life as living, seed-embedded art. Once you take your creation home, write your thoughts or draw your dreams on it, then tuck it into the soil and watch your art literally bloom. I’ll also be bringing my secret stash of global handmade papers to show you the cool stories hidden in every fibre. It’s going to be messy, honest, and wildly fun. Come get your hands wet and help us turn trash into flowers!

About the Artist
Cassia Leung is a Hong Kong-born, Toronto-based multidisciplinary community artist and cultural entrepreneur. A Fine Arts graduate from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, she co-founded ComMAground and Stirring Paper, platforms dedicated to fostering cross-cultural dialogue through craftsmanship. Over the past several years, Cassia has worked as an instructor and community project leader, hosting and leading impactful art projects across Asia, Africa, and North America.
Her work has been exhibited at the McKay Art Centre and featured at both the Geary Art Crawl, the Good.Vibe.People Art Jam, and BIG on Bloor Festival in Toronto, and she previously won the Most Creative Award from Sony Mobile HK. She has also hosted community art workshops at the Markham Wesley Centre and The Cross-Cultural Community Services Association in the York Region. Through her immersive experiences, Cassia leads participants to rethink the connection between humanity and nature, with the ultimate goal of promoting community cohesion.
 
梁穎珊（Cassia Leung）是位生於香港、現居多倫多的跨領域社區藝術家與文化企業家。她畢業於香港中文大學藝術系，並聯合創辦了「大地母系」 (ComMAground) 與「攪文紙」(Stirring Paper)，致力透過世界工藝促進跨文化對話。過去數年，她以導師及社區項目領袖的身分，於亞洲、非洲及北美等地策劃並帶領多個具影響力的藝術項目。
她的作品曾於 McKay Art Centre 展出，並亮相於多倫多 Geary Art Crawl, Good.Vibe.People 及 BIG on Bloor Festival，此前亦曾榮獲香港索尼手機（Sony Mobile HK）頒發「最具創意獎」。此外，她亦於約克區的萬錦衛斯理中心 (Markham Wesley Centre) 與多華會 (The Cross-Cultural Community Services Association) 主持社區藝術工作坊。Cassia 期望透過有沉浸式體驗，引導參與者重新思考人與自然的關係，並以促進社區凝聚力為最終目標。
