Need a kick start to get writing? These drop-in nights will provide you a safe space to write, discuss, and share your work. Each session will include time to work on your own project or follow a freefall writing prompt. For the regular attendees, optional prompts will be given to work on outside of each session.

Fran has worked an eclectic mix of jobs including youth worker, career counsellor, proposal writer, and a ten-year stint as VP for a career consulting firm. Her short stories have appeared in literary journals from coast to coast, and her plays have been produced for both theatre and radio. Fran has published two novels. The Shore Girl landed on the CBC Top 40-Book List and won the Alberta Reader’s Choice Award. No Good Asking, shortlisted for the 2019 Georges Bugnet and ReLit Awards, has been translated for international markets. Fran’s third novel, Cattail Lane, hit bookshelves in the spring of 2025.

Stephen Olson is a classically-trained guitarist who learned to play Chet Atkins thumb-picking from his Uncle Lyndy. By playing bass and melody lines simultaneously, Stephen can authentically replicate the country and rockabilly sounds of the 1950s. Divas Live!

John Hewitt is a force not seen since the end of the 70’s. There are bands, artists and songwriters that mimic and imitate but John Hewitt absorbs and reimagines. From folk clubs to house concerts, festivals to halls John is a master of storytelling, arranging, producing and a painter of poems scarcely seen in today’s musical climate. Since his early teens taking in the powerful sounds of the Beatles, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and the Grateful Dead he has been wandering, searching and yielding a crop of new ideas from the old world.  A multi-instrumentalist from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and being Alberta bound since 2018 John’s mark on the Western music scene is impossible to go unnoticed. Performing over 150 shows per year (From Alberta and British Columbia to Montana, Colorado, California and beyond), covering 20,000 miles per annum and releasing upwards of 3 albums in that same timeframe there is no comparison to the work ethic, the attitude and the drive that John has as an artist. Fronting the New Americans and touring solo most of the year his output impresses the young and the old, the folk and the rock, the country and the town and the only thing left at the end of the night is a feeling you won’t get anywhere else.
 

 
A poet born in the heat of Las Vegas, Abigayle Oakley blends the melodic richness of folk pioneers with the lyrical honesty oftoday’s confessional singer-songwriters. Her songs explore the complexities of life and the existential questions that shape us, often with a sharp, tongue-in-cheek wit that adds layers of humor and insight.
Abigayle made her Bluebird Cafe debut in 2024. She has toured the US and Canada opening for acts such as The War and Treaty, Jed and The Valentine, Forest Blakk and more.
Her songs have been recorded by Nashville artists including Kate Yeager, Molly Frances, and CMT’s September Artist of the Month, Ash Ruder. When not writing, practicing, or performing, you can find Abigayle hiking the beautiful hills of Tennessee.

Aline aims to capture the present moment with poeticism and humor all wrapped up in a bow of timeless country melodies. She is original and cunning in her songwriting and lends a nod to ever inspiring songwriters such as John Hartford and Lucinda Williams. Drawing you in with her candid lyrics she can tell an entire story in one sentence with her unique voice. Inspired by the likes of Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch the spirit of old time country music rings loud in her singing and songwriting and is uplifted with a modern dose of Americana. 
Her first LP “Wild Rose & Salt Water” released on September 19th, 2025. Her singles “Doin’ it for Country Music” hit #11 in the Hot Disc Country music chart in the UK and her song “Walk You Home” ranked in the top 100 tracks in the Canadian Indie Country Music Countdown. Her album has been played on CBC, BBC and CKUA as well as 100+ radio stations across North America, Australia and Europe.

Milkbird is the duo project of prolific Calgary songwriters & musicians Alex Klipper and Natalie Inga. Each of them represent several original music projects and serve as supporting collaborators in others, including L’omelette, The Sour Patch Men, Bridgeland, Deicha & The Vududes, Joe Vickers Band, Fermented Beet Orchestra, GFY, The Fig & The Flame, and Natalie Inga & The LadyBros. Collectively they have earned nominations for Breakout West Pop Artist of the Year, YYC Award Folk Recording of the Year, Alberta Film & TV for best Music Video, and held a spot in the CBC Searchlight Regional Finals. Several of their original projects have reached the top 50 on National Earshot charts. Natalie and Alex write and perform across genres, ranging from Folk to Bluegrass, Jazz to R&B, and even from Punk to Indie Rock. Through Milkbird, Natalie and Alex represent these genre influences in stripped down yet dynamic arrangements featuring combinations of guitar, vocals, saxophone and the banjo.

Bull Skit Comedy’s Open Jam – a welcoming, low-pressure space to explore the joy of improv in all its spontaneous glory! Whether you're brand new to the stage or a seasoned performer looking to shake off the rust, this jam is all about play, connection, and building the basics.
We’ll warm up with simple exercises rooted in the foundations of improv: listening, agreement ("Yes, and!"), character creation, and collaborative storytelling. From there, we’ll open up the floor to try out scenes, games, and maybe even a few wild experiments. No scripts. No pressure. Just laughter, learning, and letting go.

East Coast songwriter Lennie Gallant has released fifteen albums of original songs which have won him a host of awards and nominations from the JUNOs. Les Prix Eloizes, and the ECMAs. His songs have been described as "true slices of life delivered with a poet's flair and a rugged emotional sensibility". His multimedia production, Searching For Abegweit, ran for 190 shows in Eastern Canada. His song Peter's Dream, from that show, was inducted in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Lennie is an international artist who has performed all over North America and Europe. His songs have been covered by many artists and he has shared the stage with several orchestras and with performers such as Lucinda Williams, Patti Griffin and Roger Hodgson. He has performed with the late Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefers and with David Foster and his band. Lennie struck up a friendship with Jimmy, has two co-writes on his last album, and was invited to sing on it as a featured artist. Lennie's albums also went up to the international space station and circled the planet 248 times. His album, Time Travel, was voted a top ten Album of the Year by a panel of Canadian music industry personnel, and his recent all original Christmas album has received rave reviews. He and his partner Patricia Richard also record and perform as the popular francophone duo, Sirene de Matelot. Their songs have received strong radio play in francophone circuits and have consistently remained on the charts! Lennie Gallant is a member of The Order of Canada and has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts.

Tree House Youth Theatre Proudly Presents: Across the River. When Lei, a human, is accidentally enrolled in a school for vampires, he must either fit in, or be ostracized. This comedy takes a look at being the new kid in a school where you don't feel like you belong.
The story and characters of Across the River were created by participants of our participants (ages 9-17), and the script was written by our Artistic Director, Albertus Koett. We will perform this show January 22-24 at the Scott Block Theatre in downtown Red Deer.

Radiant in Rope: Weaving the Diamond Body Harness

Curious how full-body harnesses can transform your posture, confidence, and presence? In this all levels rope workshop, we’ll explore the Diamond (Hishi) pattern: a timeless design that accentuates the natural curves and lines of the body. This wearable tie invites beauty, symmetry, and flow, whether shared with a partner or expressed through self-tying.
Under Tiger’s guidance, you’ll learn how to create a diamond-pattern harness using skills from previous classes, including rope handling, reverse tensioning, half hitches, and munter hitches.
 
Workshop Schedule:
3:00–5:00 pm — Guided instruction and hands-on tying practice (Diamond/Hishi harness)
5:15–6:00 pm — Live Rope Performance by Tiger (included with all tickets, pending minimum registration) 
 
This is a low-pressure space where you can learn, laugh, and ask questions. Bring a partner or come solo - we’ll help with pairing if needed. 
 
**Pre-requisites: Must have taken Rope 101 with Tiger or an approved practitioner.
If you have no prior rope experience, you’re still welcome. A free online instruction module is available to bring you up to speed. Please contact us for details on accessing that material.

‘They're on their way, to the city lights’ ... and, THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes, Carry Me, Oh My Lady, Devil You, Ramona, Minstrel Gypsy, Hit the Road Jack and, of course, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song, Sweet City Woman! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’ ... maybe not to Birmingham ... but back to a time of tie-dyed t-shirts and elevator shoes, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie, dating and dreaming ... By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song, everyone will be singing along.
No seventies group represented Canada's musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada's music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms The Stampeders were truly the country's international musical ambassadors, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time.  In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar), Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited, fittingly at the Calgary Stampede, 15 years later in 1992. Since then, they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit Sweet City Woman.
In March 2024, just before the Ontario leg of this tour, Ronnie King passed away.  In the final days, while in palliative care, he insisted that his band mates carry on.  Dave Chabot, renowned bassist and longtime friend of the band, who was already scheduled to be on the tour to sit in for Ronnie as needed, was the obvious choice.  Still, Ronnie remains a presence at every show, as Rich and Kim share stories from 50plus years on the road and pay tribute with a retrospective video.

Whether getting comedic mileage with classic bits on generational differences in families then and now; teacher terrors of public-school days; hand me-down hockey gear; party hearty camping trips with pals in those 'bullet proof days of yore', there's something for everybody. 'Ultimately though, 'The Noise Between Our Ears' sees Ron as the ever struggling 'Everyman', doing his best to make sense of a world off kilter while bedeviled by forces beyond his control, where airlines constantly lose luggage, stock portfolios nosedive, mortality's the new reality and the barber spends more time trimming your ears than he does your head!
