Learn about the Icons who paved the way for what Burlesque is today, along with a few basic moves to release your inner showpony!
No experience required. This class is a mix of lecture and light movements. Burlesque is for everybody and EVERY BODY. All genders, bodies, abilities, ages (18+) and experience levels are welcome.

Domino Rogue began her burlesque journey in Edmonton in 2018 under the mentorship of Kiki Quinn, and has since trained and collaborated with leading performers from across Alberta and beyond. She is a former Co-Producer of Edmonton’s beginner burlesque showcase, “Show Us Your Noobies” (2020 - 2022) and co-founded Private Universe Entertainment after moving to Red Deer in 2023. She has been spreading the magic of burlesque across Central Alberta since, through producing showcases featuring some of the best performers in Alberta (and beyond), performing, and teaching the art of burlesque. She is a veritable force whose shimmy has taken her across Western Canada and the U.S., from Seattle to Saskatoon to Salem.

Each session will include time to work on your own project or follow a freefall writing prompt. For the regular attendees, optional prompts will be given to work on outside of each session.

Fran has worked an eclectic mix of jobs including youth worker, career counsellor, proposal writer, and a ten-year stint as VP for a career consulting firm. Her short stories have appeared in literary journals from coast to coast, and her plays have been produced for both theatre and radio. Fran has published two novels. The Shore Girl landed on the CBC Top 40-Book List and won the Alberta Reader’s Choice Award. No Good Asking, shortlisted for the 2019 Georges Bugnet and ReLit Awards, has been translated for international markets. Fran’s third novel, Cattail Lane, hit bookshelves in the spring of 2025.

2026/27 Brave New Writing

The Unfaithful Servants have emerged as one of Canada’s must-see acoustic acts, delivering a thrilling modern take on folk, bluegrass, and Americana. Known for explosive instrumentals, rich harmonies, and timeless songwriting, the band has earned a reputation as a powerhouse live draw across Western Canada.
At the heart of the group is mandolinist Jesse Cobb, a founding member of The Infamous Stringdusters and a widely respected innovator on the mandolin. Cobb has shared stages with Béla Fleck, David Grisman, Dierks Bentley, Lee Ann Womack, and held a residency at the Grand Ole Opry. Alongside him is prolific songwriter and guitarist Dylan Stone, whose emotionally driven writing and commanding stage presence anchor the band’s sound. The lineup is rounded out by young fiddle standout Quin Etheridge-Pedden, and anchored by bassist Mark Johnson.

Instrucor Bio: Oksana Zhelisko

Classically trained in Eastern Europe, Oksana began her art career in L’viv, Ukraine. Oksana studied at the Ivan Trush College of Decorative Arts. She chose to make painting, especially of murals, her specialty. In 2001, she held her first solo exhibition at the L’viv University of Ivan Franko. Oksana brings her training, skill, and passion to her painting, and she is versatile in expressive styles. She is adept at many genres, including portraiture, still life, and landscape.

Ariana Whitlow brings her full-piece band, signature comedy and tales of Christmas while performing Christmas sing-a-longs.
An alumna of Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Ariana has appeared several times with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and opened for Blue Rodeo and to perform alongside Canadian superstars Brett Kissel, Corb Lund, Tyler Hamilton, and Mark Masri.
Ariana Whitlow has travelled the world, entertaining audiences as a singer, actor and dancer. 
She is a versatile and passionate entertainer who delivers lively and emotional performances. Influenced by the likes of Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, expect to fall in love with her soulful vocals, energetic personality and extraordinary sense of humour.

A poignant musical interpretation of a day in the life of residents at a dementia care facility.
Through a blend of grief and humor, the audience is invited to witness the daily struggles and triumphs of the residents as they grapple with the gradual loss of Self.Moments of clarity intertwine with confusion, and bittersweet recollections are juxtaposed with fleeting glimpses of the present. Musically supported by the bold and aching melodies of the late Harry Nilsson provide a haunting backdrop for this performance exposé.
Joëlle’s compelling vocal interpretations and her chameleon-like portrayals of a dozen of the 22 featured characters such as the residents, care aides and visiting family members alike are buoyed by Kelly Wyatt’s colourful supporting characters and vocal harmonies, while music director, Nico Rhodes, also playing supporting roles, renders homage with insightful musical arrangements of the timeless musical brilliance of the late Harry Nilsson.
“I Don’t Belong Here – Stories and Songs Remembered” offers a compassionate, nuanced approach to dementia - one that embraces empathy, humour, and humanity for those living with it, those who love them, and those who care for them.
But don’t let the subject matter fool you, this is not a bleak tale. The script balances absurdity with poignancy, grief with laughter, and ultimately affirms the power of connection, even at the edge of forgetting.

Trio Fibonacci made its first appearance on the Canadian music scene in 1998, with the press reporting that “to hear them is to enter into the world of miracles” (Le Devoir, Montreal). The Trio Fibonacci has been guided by some of the world’s most respected chamber musicians, including Menahem Pressler, members of the Alban Berg, Guarneri and Vermeer String Quartets, and by their mentors Eberhard Feltz and Michael Vogler in Berlin.
Trio Fibonacci is internationally recognized for its brilliant interpretations of the entire piano trio repertoire, from the works of Haydn through to collaborations with over sixty living composers on four continents. Their concert tours have led them to several European countries, to Argentina, South Africa, Brazil and Japan, to Berlin, San Francisco and New York. Trio Fibonacci has performed for television in Canada, China, and Brazil, and their concerts have been broadcast on Canadian, German, Belgian and Chilean radio networks.

Winner of the prestigious 2003 Virginia Parker Prize of the Canada Council for the Arts, given to underline her innovative work as a performer, Julie-Anne Derome studied with Christopher Rowland at the Royal Northern College of Music, UK, and with Mitchell Stern and members of the Emerson String Quartet in the USA.  She received a special prize at the 1992 Yehudi Menuhin Competition in Paris for her interpretation of Anthèmes by Boulez, and in 1993 took part in a concert of chamber music for Queen Elizabeth II in Cyprus. In 1996 Julie-Anne released a CD of twentieth century solo violin works on the Atma label and in reference to this recording the BBC Music Magazine hailed her as "a star in the making." She may also be heard on the Analekta and Cyprès labels.
 
Gabriel Prynn

According to the magazine Musical Toronto "Prynn has a particularly silken bowing arm and remarkable control. Everything he played was poised, seamless and impeccably shaped." During his career as a soloist, as a member of the Trio Fibonacci, and as a guest artist with diverse ensembles, notably the Ensemble Alternance in Paris, Gabriel has both resurrected forgotten masterpieces and premiered over sixty new works. Gabriel has performed at Toronto’s St. Lawrence Centre, Merkin Hall in New York, at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris in association with IRCAM and Radio-France, at the Aldeburgh Festival (UK) and at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing.
 
Maxim Shatalkin

Laureate of the 2004 Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation Award, the 2012 Rachmaninoff International Competition in St. Petersburg, and the 2013 Vienna International Piano Competition, Maxim Shatalkin graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he studied piano with Valery Kastelsky, Elena Kuznetsova and Mikhail Voskresensky, and chamber music with Alexander Bonduriansky, pianist of the Moscow Piano Trio. After winning the prestigious 2006 Swedish International Duo Competition with cellist Alexander Zababurkin, the local press reported: “Shatalkin revealed himself as a masterfully driven piano artist, where nothing was neglected: his performance combined a solid fidelity to style, well-adjusted temperament and overall an incredible, dazzling virtuosity”.

Writer and Actor: Joanna Rannelli
Joanna is an award-winning actor, writer, and producer, from Vancouver BC. Her storytelling show Private Parts: The Secrets We Keep toured to Orlando, Winnipeg, Calgary & Vancouver Fringe in 2023. The production won the Audience Choice Award at the Vancouver Fringe and earned a nomination for Outstanding Fringe Production from the Calgary Theatre Critics’ Awards. In 2024, Joanna debuted Bangs, Bobs & Banter: Confessions of a Hairstylist at the Orlando Fringe, where it garnered the Critics’ Choice Award and sold out its run at the Edmonton Fringe Festival. The show will be touring in 2025 to Orlando, Tampa, Hamilton and Edmonton Fringe. Other select theatre credits include Tramps Like Us (Tacoma Road Productions), The Most Massive Woman Wins (Splendiferous Theatre), Boy (Dalliance Theatre), The Crackwalker (Ashwood Theatre Society), and Antigone (Seven Tyrants).
In addition to her theatre work, Joanna is also a film, TV, and voice actor. She trained at both Douglas College’s Acting Program and UBC’s BFA Acting Program. Joanna is driven by a passion for creating art that sparks conversation and fosters community.

This crystal bowl sound bath is a space to step out of the constant noise of life and into something quieter, steadier, and more supportive.
Through the use of crystal singing bowls, you’ll be guided into a deeply relaxed state where your nervous system can soften, your mind can settle, and your body can finally exhale.
This experience is for anyone who feels like they’re always on. The ones carrying full schedules, busy minds, and the weight of daily life without much space to pause.
You’ll be invited to get comfortable, turn your phone on silent, and give yourself a moment that isn’t about doing, fixing, or figuring anything out. Just being.
As the sound moves through the space, it works gently with your body and energy, helping you reconnect with yourself in a way that feels natural and unforced.
You’ll leave feeling lighter, more grounded, clear, and present in yourself.
No experience needed. Just come as you are and allow yourself to receive.
 
Ticket Options
Guests can choose between two experience options when purchasing their ticket. Both offer the same sound bath experience, with your choice of how you’d like to receive it:

Silk Cocoon Experience – $20Settle into an aerial silk and allow yourself to be gently held as you receive the sound bath. This option offers a unique, cocoon-like experience that enhances relaxation and support.
Grounded Rest Experience – $20Lie comfortably on a mat and receive the sound bath in a grounded, spacious setting. A simple, supportive option for full-body relaxation.

Ready to build confidence in your headstands and handstands?
This themed Open Play is designed for practitioners looking for dedicated training time, community connection, and a supportive space to refine inversions, troubleshoot challenges, and work toward new skills at their own pace.
This is not an instructed class and is not intended for those with no prior experience. Participants should have some experience with headstands, handstands, or inversion training and be comfortable working independently.
Throughout the session, you’ll have access to:

Open training space to drill, refine, and experiment
Mats, wall space, and optional spotting support to practice safely
A community of fellow practitioners working toward their own goals
Coaches on hand for spotting, feedback, and occasional tips when needed

Whether you’re holding your first freestanding headstand, building confidence in your handstand, refining your line, or working toward longer holds and smoother entries, this Open Play offers the space and support to help you progress.

Open Play is your time to explore, move, and create at your own pace. The space is yours to use in the ways that support your training and creativity. Whether you’re working solo or with friends, Open Play gives you the freedom to try new things, build consistency, and grow your practice in a relaxed, self-led environment. Our team is on site to supervise the space, and participants are welcome to use any apparatuses they already have experience with.
