The 13th annual Whistler Village Beer Festival (WVBF), presented by Gibbons Whistler, returns September 16 to 20, 2026.

Get ready for the “Valley West Stampede” being held this Labour Day weekend, in partnership with the locally based, Langley Riders Society. The members of the Langley Riders are no strangers to staging rodeo events, having organized Little Britches Rodeos for young riders for over 50 years. This new event is a natural progression into the professional realm, given the growth of Langley as a community and the importance of the horse and farm community here.
A Fresh Approach Matched with a Classic Tradition
The Valley West Stampede is fully sanctioned by the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA), which will organize and register participating riders, and manage the $15,000 in prize money that Valley West Stampede organizers have provided for each of the four scheduled riding events:
· Bare back riding
· Ladies barrel racing
· Saddle bronc
· Bull riding
Mutton busting completion for kids will be a featured speciality event.

Grab three friends (or your run club) and, as a team of four, get from the Pemberton Downtown Community Barn to Sp'akw'us Feather Park in Squamish, splitting the distance however you want. It's not a race. It's more of a somewhat-competitive mass-start running experience. Go hard and chase the clock, or go easy and just enjoy the trail. Either way, you're finishing as a team, on foot, following the Sea-to-Sky Trail the whole way to the ocean.
The date is set around the equinox, a fitting moment to mark the turn of the season with a run between two mountain towns.
This is a community event hosted by SkiUphill · RunUphill. It is not an official or sanctioned race. The course is open to traffic, trail users, and vehicles throughout, and you're responsible for your own safety, navigation, and gear from start to finish.

Barefoot in the Park is one of the most beloved comedies of Neil Simon. Newlyweds Corie and Paul Bratter are over the moon to begin their life together in their new apartment in Manhattan. It may be small and a six-flight climb, the heating may be busted and snow may be falling through the skylight, but nothing can quash their newlywed bliss. Paul is a straight-laced lawyer and Corie a romantic free-spirit; nevertheless, opposites attract and the two are wild about each other. Corie decides to set her conservative widowed mother up with their eccentric, bohemian neighbor. A wild night ensues, one that highlights just how different Corie and Paul are. The young couple must learn how to accept and embrace their differences as they learn that marriage is no easy walk in the park.

Taiwanese Hakka chef Ted Liao presents a series of immersive workshops exploring the relationship between food, land, sound, and cultural memory. Inspired by this year’s curatorial theme, “Islands in the Wind,” the experience examines how flavour can carry stories of migration, colonial history, terroir, and evolving cultural identity through the lens of Taiwanese Hakka cuisine and island botanicals.
Using Canadian ingredients such as maple syrup, seasonal fruits, and spices alongside Taiwanese elements including Grass Jelly Herb, Shiso, Lei Cha, and Shell Ginger, participants will create handcrafted cola beverages inspired by the flavours of Taiwan. Through aroma, sound, storytelling, and sensory interaction, the workshops trace the connections between colonial sugar culture, modern soda drinks, and the landscapes that shape our tastes and memories.
More than a cooking class, “Collective Island” is a shared exploration of memory, place, and the future of food. Drawing from Ted’s ongoing work in sustainable cuisine, Hakka culture, and plant-based gastronomy, the workshops invite participants to experience Taiwan through flavour, conversation, and collective discovery.
來自台灣的客籍主廚 Ted 廖永勛，將帶來一系列結合食物、土地、聲音與文化記憶的沉浸式工作坊。以本屆策展主題「風中的島嶼」為核心，透過台灣客家風味、島嶼植物、與五感體驗，重新思考飲食如何承載遷徙、殖民、風土與未來文化。
工作坊將以加拿大在地食材如楓糖、水果與香料，結合台灣仙草、紫蘇、擂茶、月桃等元素，帶領參與者親手製作具有「台灣島嶼風味」的手作可樂,同時透過氣味、聲音、飲食敘事與互動體驗，探討從殖民糖文化、現代氣泡飲，到土地風味之間的關係。
這不只是一場料理課，而是一場關於土地記憶與未來飲食的文化實驗。Ted 將以其長期關注的永續飲食、客家文化與植物性料理視角，把台灣飲食轉化為可被國際理解的感官語言，讓參與者在風味之中，重新認識台灣這座島嶼。

About the Artist
Ted Liao is a Taiwanese Hakka Chef, television host, and sustainable food innovator, best known as the co-founder and Chef of Monsoon, a Michelin-selected restaurant in Taiwan known for its contemporary plant-based Neo-Hakkanese cuisine.
Born into a Hakka family, Ted’s work explores the relationship between land, memory, migration, and flavour. Rather than replicating tradition, he reimagines Hakka food culture through a contemporary lens. He uses fermentation, wild mountain botanicals, local agriculture, and storytelling to create immersive dining experiences rooted in Taiwan’s cultural landscape.
With a background in food science and brewing technology, Ted has developed a distinctive culinary language that combines sustainability, terroir, and cultural identity. Under his direction, Monsoon was selected in the Michelin Guide Taiwan for 3 years and received the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2023 for its ingredient-driven philosophy and sustainability-focused approach.
Beyond the restaurant, Ted’s practice extends into interdisciplinary collaborations spanning art residencies, educational initiatives, cultural exchange projects, and television. His award-winning show on Hakka TV, “A Meal & A Meet,” received the Best Lifestyle Program award at the Asian Television Awards.
For Ted, cooking is never only about flavour, but a form of cultural storytelling that connects people, land, and the future.

2026 TAIWANfest invites audiences into a cultural dialogue through music and language!
Wander through the beautiful mountains of Taitung with the Nanwang Sisters, as their powerful voices harmonize the songs of the Pinuyumayan people. Discover the unlimited potential of the Taiwanese Hakka language with ZiXuan & Slow Train, a band that fearlessly and playfully experiments with new genres for a new generation.
Featuring music artists from Taiwan singing in their mother tongue, this year’s Opening Event weaves together memory, heritage, and innovation. 
 
The Nanwang Sisters—Samingad, Lavaus, and I hua—represent a highly symbolic generation in the development of Taiwan’s Indigenous music. They grew up during a time when society was still rife with prejudice against Indigenous identity, an era when many singers were forced to conceal their Indigenous background or were cast by the mainstream market as “mountain singers.” Yet the Nanwang Sisters chose music as a means of resistance and healing—using their voices to preserve their mother tongue, recount memories, and redefine the meaning of “singing their own songs.”
The 2009 self-titled album Nanwang Sisters won Best Vocal Group, Best Indigenous Language Album, and Best Album Producer at the 20th Golden Melody Awards, marking a milestone in which Indigenous music was officially recognized by mainstream culture. Subsequent works, including the album Baliwakes and the musical It’s Been a Long Time Since You Honoured Me, further blended Indigenous memory with the modern stage, reconstructing the life narratives of Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples through the interplay of music and theatre.
The music of the Nanwang Sisters deserves to be heard by the world—not because of who they represent, but because their voices heal the wounds of a generation and allow the world to hear the dignity that Indigenous peoples continue to sing of, even amidst colonization, displacement, and neglect. Through their harmonies, “the mountains” become more than just mountains; they are the enduring spirit of a people and a resonance that transcends time and place.
 
ZiXuan & Slow Train are four-time winners of the Golden Melody Awards and Golden Bell Awards. ZiXuan use the blood of Hakka and Minan as the core, open his arms to accept the big waves of variety cultures, the pursuit of dreams in the city, the complaint of life and the thought of home, all of those are loaded in the local train, he use the native language that we are most familiar with to sing those thoughts of people.

南王姊妹花，來自卑南族的南王部落 ，她們用和聲跨越世代，傳唱文化記憶。黃子軒與山平快，以客語創作，大膽且充滿玩心，將傳統帶進了新世界。

南王姊妹花由諭芹（Samingad）、惠琴（Lavaus） 與 美花（I hua） 組成的南王姊妹花，是在台灣原住民族音樂發展中極具象徵性的一代。她們成長於社會仍對原住民身分充滿偏見的時期，那是許多歌手被迫隱藏族群身份或被主流市場塑造成「山地歌手」的年代。然而，南王姊妹花選擇以音樂作為抵抗與療癒的方式——用歌聲延續母語、述說記憶，也重新定義「唱自己的歌」的意義。
2009 年的同名專輯《南王姊妹花》，榮獲第20屆金曲獎 最佳演唱組合、最佳原住民語專輯與最佳專輯製作人，是原住民族音樂被主流文化正式聽見的象徵。而後的《巴力瓦格斯（Baliwakes）》專輯與音樂劇《很久沒有敬我了你》，更讓族群記憶與現代舞台相互交融，在樂音與劇場之間重構台灣原住民的生命敘事。
南王姊妹花的音樂值得被世界聽見——不是因她們代表誰，而是因她們的歌聲能療癒那一代人的傷口，也讓全世界聽見原住民族在殖民、流離與被遺忘之中仍堅持唱出的尊嚴。她們的和聲，讓「山」不只是山，而是一段民族靈魂的延續，一種跨越時間與地域的共鳴。

Dive headfirst into the seedy underworld of triads, violence, and all the dumplings you can eat in Fistful of Crime!
In this one-of-a-kind improv show, you'll experience the hallmark gangster cinema from 80s and 90s Hong Kong, reimagined and remixed on-the-spot by Vancouver's premiere East Asian improv group, Fistful of Kicks.
Each show is equal parts drama and comedy, exploring characters caught between the criminal world and polite society, stretched thin between their gang allegiances and their family bonds. All created entirely on the spot based on a single word from the audience! If you're a seasoned HK cinema aficionado, or have no idea what any of those words you just read meant, you'll have a killer time at this show.
Also featuring hilarious opening acts from all around the Vancouver comedy scene. Embrace your inner gangster at Fistful of Crime!

In this workshop, you will create a coaster using indigo-dyed fabric scraps and thread through a traditional Japanese stitching technique called Sashiko. 
However, the main purpose is not simply to learn how to sew. 
Colour has no weight and no physical texture. But by intentionally trying to "touch" it, you begin to notice things: subtle fluctuations, how it resonates differently depending on the material, and how it evolves with use. This uneven, unpredictable fluctuation is the greatest charm of natural indigo dyeing. 
As you work with your hands, let's focus on the profound depth that natural indigo possesses.
在這堂工作坊中，你將運用藍染布塊與線材，透過日本傳統的「刺子繡（Sashiko）」針法，親手縫製出一款專屬的杯墊。
然而，你不只是單純學習縫紉技巧。

About the Artist
I started Konaya after working on making hair ornaments for weddings. I often draw inspiration from familiar plants, flowers, and creatures I encounter in my daily life and while traveling.
I hope that the freedom of brass as a material and the excitement I feel when creating will be conveyed to people in other countries as well.

本場講座邀請台灣知名作家張亦絢從創作歷程出發，分享文學如何回應女性的成長記憶、家庭關係，以及不同世代之間的理解與誤解。
台灣節期待透過文學作為對話的起點，鼓勵華語社區跨世代的女性參與者分享觀點與生命故事，在交流中重新理解彼此，也開啟更多關於性別、情感與生命經驗的對話。
**As the discussion may touch on topics such as gender, bodily experiences, and life traumas, we will prioritize maintaining a sense of safety and trust among participants. This session will primarily admit women.

This lecture invites renowned Taiwanese queer writer Nathalie Chang (CHANG Yi- Hsum) to examine how literature reflects the lived experiences of women. Using literature as the starting point, this program explores topics of memory, family dynamics, and intergenerational relationships. An open conversation and exchange about gender identity, emotions, and life experiences with the community.

About the Artist
張亦絢（Nathalie CHANG / CHANG Yi-Hsum）出生於台北市木柵區。青少女時期，她曾在《讀者文摘》上發表過一篇真實故事，並在全國性報紙上發表過小說。 《愛的不久時》、《性意思史》和《永別書》是她最著名的作品。其中，《永別書》被評為台灣文學的代表作之一。
儘管她被視為酷兒小說家並為LGBT+權益發聲，但她的小說仍然對基於性別或民族的認同政治進行了批判。她的作品探討了性創傷、語言和台灣命運等主題，其複雜性令人印象深刻。
她在一個對台灣民主抱持巨大期望的家庭中度過童年。這種親身經歷和孩童般的觀察保有了人們政治行動中的親密性：戒嚴時期的事件，例如美麗島事件、陳文成事件和林宅血案，如何影響兒童成長？張亦絢並不滿足於「記住歷史」這種觀念，而是強調缺乏公眾記憶會對各類受害者造成殘酷和不公。
她以《我討厭過的大人們》榮獲金鼎獎最佳專欄獎。她擁有巴黎索邦大學電影研究碩士學位。她也為《電影欣賞》和台灣文學館的展覽撰稿。兩位加拿大人對她影響深遠：作家劉綺芬和鋼琴家顧爾德。
Nathalie CHANG (CHANG Yi- Hsum) was born in Muzha District, Taipei City.
She published a true story in Reader’s Digest and several fictional stories in national newspapers during her adolescence. Not Long in Love, Her-History of Sex, and I’m Leaving are among her most famous novels, with I’m Leaving selected as one of the most representative works of Taiwanese literature.
Although she is considered a queer novelist who advocates for LGBT+ rights, her novels also present a critique of identity politics, whether based on gender or national identity. Her work explores themes such as sexual trauma, language, and the fate of Taiwan with impressive complexity.
She spent her childhood in a family that held great expectations for democracy in Taiwan. This firsthand experience and childhood observations preserved the intimacy of popular political action: how did major events during martial law, such as the Formosa Incident, the Chen Wen-cheng Incident, and the Lin Family Massacre, affect children's development? Chang goes beyond the common notion of "remembering history," emphasizing how the lack of public memory brings cruelty and injustice to various victims.
She won the Golden Tripod Award for Best Column Writing for her work "All the Grownups Who Once Bored Me." She holds a Master's degree in Film Studies from Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris and has written for the Film Appreciation Journal and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature. Two Canadians have greatly influenced her: writer Evelyn Lau and pianist Glenn Gould.
