Seating at the UTRGV Soccer Complex is all general admission, and a digital ticket is required for entrance. To receive your digital ticket for the game of your choice, you will need to sign up for a soccer pass. Once you have signed up for your soccer pass, you will receive an email that includes your digital tickets to all of the UTRGV men's and women's soccer matches for the 2025 season! Barefoot Nation, a Kenny Chesney tribute band based in Dallas, is coming to The Texan in Athens on Saturday, October 18th! Doors will open at 6:00pm, and the band plays from 7:00-9:00pm. Smoky B Barbecue and Bar will be open beginning at 6pm. The premier traveling dueling pianos show, The Eighty Eights, is coming from Dallas to perform in Athens for their 5th time at The Texan on Saturday, November 8th! Doors will open with Smoky B Barbecue and Bar at 6:00pm, and the show starts at 7:00pm. The show includes two entertainers on two pianos performing live popular songs from the classic 1950s to today’s hits! Interacting with the audience, they encourage singalongs, dancing, and participation. This is a one-of-a-kind traveling dueling piano show!

Distinguished Artist Series - Daniel Pardo
 
Daniel Pardo is an award‑winning flutist, composer, and producer whose performances fuse classical traditions, jazz, and Latin American music with global influences and technology. A Yamaha Performing Artist and member of the Texas Touring Roster, he has collaborated with Grammy‑winning producers K.C. Porter (Santana, Ricky Martin) and J.B. Eckl (Santana, En Vogue), as well as acclaimed artists including Jeff Coffin, Karen Briggs, Jake Shimabukuro, and Bob Mintzer.
Daniel’s 2024 album Ese Momento, a re‑imagining of Latin American boleros, earned two Gold Medals from the Global Music Awards and the Absolute First Prize and Innovation Award at the Beethoven International Competition UK. His work as a soloist and ensemble musician has been featured at major venues and festivals, including the Silkroad Global Musician Workshop, World Flute Society Convention, International Low Flutes Festival, and multiple National Flute Association Conventions.
Currently Associate Professor of Flute and Interim Department Head of Music and Theatre at Prairie View A&M University, Daniel combines performance excellence with a commitment to education and community engagement. He founded the PVAMU International Flute Festival, attracting artists and students from more than ten countries, and serves as Program Chair for the 2026 National Flute Association Convention in Portland, OR.
Equally active in the studio and on stage, Daniel has appeared on over 40 recordings and is in demand as a producer, arranger, and mixing/mastering engineer for orchestral, jazz, and world music projects in the U.S. and Europe. His performances are recognized for their expressive range, cultural depth, and ability to connect with audiences across genres.

Jerusha Abbott is the “Oldest Orphan in the John Grier Home” until a mysterious benefactor decides to send her to college to be educated as a writer. Required to write him a letter once a month, she is never to know the benefactor’s identity – so she invents one for him: Daddy Long Legs. Although she knows that he will never respond to her letters, she grows more and more fond of this elusive and kindly “old” gentleman. But another relationship soon begins to develop in Jerusha’s life. Jervis Pendleton is the well-do-do, “youngish” uncle of one of Jerusha’s roommates, who introduces her to a world of literature, travel and adventure. Through her correspondence with Daddy Long Legs and her growing intimacy with Jervis, Jerusha’s letters chronicle her emergence as a delightfully independent “New American Woman.” Yet, there is one startling fact that Jerusha has yet to uncover – a fact that will change her life forever.

Program Overview
This immersive 8-week, hands-on filmmaking course is designed for anyone eager to tell stories through film, whether you’re brand new to the craft or a self-taught creator ready to sharpen your skills.
Students will experience the full script-to-screen journey, from developing an original idea to screening a completed short film before a live audience. Along the way, you’ll gain practical training in storytelling, collaboration, and technical production; the essential building blocks for any filmmaker.
Students will work in crew-style teams to produce a short narrative film. Guest filmmakers, industry professionals, and working artists will provide insight, mentorship, and feedback throughout the process, helping you refine your skills and find your creative voice.

Required Supplies and Materials
Students are responsible for providing their own production resources. Each student must have access to a personal computer capable of supporting digital editing, along with appropriate camera and lighting equipment necessary for assigned projects. In addition, students are expected to have licensed, fully operational editing software; either Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, installed on their laptops prior to the start of the course.

Step into the world of screenwriting and unleash your storytelling power! Over the span of 8 exciting weeks, you’ll dive into the creative and technical process of writing your very own short script. From idea to polished draft, this course guides you through industry secrets, proven techniques, and the essential conventions every screenwriter needs to know.
You will explore the fundamentals of genre, story structure, and character development while gaining hands-on experience through writing exercises and peer feedback. By the end of the course, you won’t just understand how screenplays work, you’ll have a completed short screenplay of your own, ready to share with the world.

Prerequisites
No prior screenwriting experience is required! Designed for beginners and those ready to complete their first script, this course welcomes all creative voices. Students must be 18 or older to enroll. This course is designed for beginners and is in-person. Participants need to have a laptop.
Course Format
This in-person course runs for 8 weeks, with weekly 2-hour sessions for a total of 16 hours of instruction.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

In February of 1974 Asleep at the Wheel made the move from the Bay Area to Austin, Texas. After playing the Armadillo World Headquarters with Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen in 1973 – and receiving encouragement from Willie Nelson and Doug Sahm to relocate – the band settled in and made Austin their home, where they remain 50 years later.
“Austin was and has been everything I could have ever wished for and more,” says Ray Benson, the band’s leader and only original member. “It’s been 55 years for AATW as a band, and 50 of them have been spent in Texas. We are known worldwide for being a Texas band and playing Texas and Western Swing music. It brings us great pride to carry this torch and responsibility. We don’t take it lightly!”
