Matthew Good is a multi-platinum selling Canadian recording artist, best known for his signature vocal style, guitar-driven melodies, and cinematic lyrics. He began his career as the frontman for the Matthew Good Band, one of the most successful Canadian alternative rock bands during the 1990s and early 2000s. Rock radio staples such as “Hello Timebomb,” “Everything Is Automatic,” “Indestructible,” “Apparitions,” and “Load Me Up” made the group a household name, selling out shows throughout Canada over seven years and four full-length album releases. Sergeants Mess Hall

The 177-seat Sergeants Mess Hall at Base31 is the newest performance venue to open in Prince Edward County. This architectural gem has been renovated and repurposed as a unique and intimate concert venue, featuring state-of-the art sound and lighting, with its original historic charm and character retained. The Sergeants Mess Hall has a rich history dating back to its construction in 1939. The building was originally built as a mess hall for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) No. 31 Bombing and Gunnery School during World War II. During the war, the building served as a gathering place for the sergeants who were stationed at the base. It was a place where they could relax, eat meals, and socialize with their fellow soldiers. After the war, the base was decommissioned and the building served a variety of purposes over the years, including as a community centre, a school, and a storage facility.

General Admission Seating is first come, first served in this section. We ask that you please do not save seats for individuals who have not yet arrived. Our goal is to create an enjoyable and comfortable experience for all attendees.

Lancaster Bomber KB 882 Preview - GP

David Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian carpenter-turned-songwriter, who has become known as “one of Canada’s most revered folk poets and singers” (Toronto Star). Born in Ayrshire, Scotland to parents who were factory workers, he moved to Canada when he was twelve. For decades, he worked across Canada in rail yards, construction sites, and in the Yukon bush, all the while writing poetry, setting it to melodies in his head and singing it to himself as he worked. A truly authentic folk singer, Francey is a documentarian of the working person who never imagined earning a living from his music. But when he was in his 40s, his wife, artist Beth Girdler, encouraged him to share his songs and sing in public. The reaction was instant. His first album Torn Screen Door came out in 1999 and was a hit in Canada.
Since then, David has released thirteen albums, won four Juno Awards and has had his songs covered by such artists as The Del McCoury Band, The Rankin Family, James Keelaghan and Tracy Grammer. David's recent Juno win came in 2024, where he won Traditional Roots Album of the Year with "The Breath Between".

Over the course of a long and illustrious career spanning almost 50 years, the pride of Lynn Lake, Manitoba, Tom Cochrane has achieved a level of success known to few recording artists.
Starting out as a folk-based singer/songwriter playing the coffeehouses of Toronto`s famed Yorkville scene in the early 70`s, Tom joined forces with rock group Red Rider in 1978 as their lead singer and main songwriter. Together as Red Rider and later as Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, they released a total of nine albums with hits, "Lunatic Fringe", "Victory Day", "Human Race", "Boy Inside the Man", "White Hot" and the chart topper, "Big League".
Tom launched his solo career with the release of the anthemic hit "Life Is A Highway" from the breakthrough album Mad Mad World. This record sold over one million copies in Canada alone and another six million copies worldwide, giving it certified Diamond Status in Canada and earning him a Grammy nomination in the United States.
A Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee, Cochrane, both with Red Rider and as a solo artist, has won eight JUNO awards. His legacy as a Canadian icon has been cemented with a star on Canada`s Walk of Fame and a 322 km section of Manitoba`s provincial highway named "Tom Cochrane`s Life Is A Highway".

Art of Time Ensemble and Andrew Barushko
For the last 25 years, Art of Time Ensemble has been on the cutting edge of the performing arts in Canada, fusing music with theatre, dance, film and literature in unique and unprecedented ways. The list of illustrious artists who have collaborated with Art of Time includes Margaret Atwood, Peggy Baker, Brent Carver, Barbara Hannigan, Branford Marsalis, Michael Ondaatje, Madeleine Péyroux, Jackie Richardson and many others. Founded by Andrew Burashko in 1998, the Toronto based ensemble has included some of Canada's top classical and jazz soloists as well as concertmasters and principal players from some of the world's greatest orchestras. With Burashko at its helm as artistic director, conductor, pianist and director, Art of Time has produced over 80 unique productions and recordings and has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe.
Steven Page
Award-winning musician, singer and songwriter Steven Page is a founding member of the iconic band Barenaked Ladies, with whom he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Touring and releasing original music under his own name for over fifteen years, Page has continued his artistic journey with diverse projects in music, film, theatre and television.  He has composed seven Stratford Festival scores, has collaborated and toured North America with Toronto's innovative Art of Time Ensemble and performs with his rock star pals as a member of the Trans-Canada Highwaymen. 
Chris Murphy
Chris Murphy has been 1/4 of the band Sloan for over 30 years. In 2016, Chris got into the super group game in 2015 when he formed a trio called TUNS (rhymes with buns) with Matt Murphy (The Super Friendz/Flashing Lights) and Mike O'Neill (The Inbreds). Now on a supergroup kick, he formed Trans-Canada Highwaymen in 2017 with Steven Page (ex Barenaked Ladies), Moe Berg (The Pursuit of Happiness) and Craig Northey (Odds). Then in 2018 some of his other musician friends were complaining they weren't in a super group so Chris went ahead and agreed to make Anyway Gang with Sam Roberts (Sam Roberts Band), David Monks (Tokyo Police Club) and Menno Versteeg (Hollerado). Please don't ask Chris to form a group with you. He doesn't have time.
Andy Maize
Andy Maize is a singer/songwriter and co-founder / lead singer of Canadian roots/rock band Skydiggers. The 'Diggers have been writing and playing their way across the majestic landscapes of Canada for more than 35 years, and have 20 records to their name, including their debut "Skydiggers" (1990) and more recently Hide Your Light / Bide Your Time (2023). Maize has always been thrilled to be a part of Art of Time shows.
Jeremy Fisher
Jeremy Fisher is a 4-time JUNO-nominated folk-pop singer-songwriter based in Ottawa. He has released 6 studio albums and his music has been featured on radio, in film (The Big Year, Our Idiot Brother), commercials (Volkswagen, American Airlines), and as main title TV themes (Disney, Global). Over the last 20 years Jeremy has toured the world and shared the stage with artists such as Alanis Morissette, Blue Rodeo and Indigo Girls.

Art of Time Ensemble's Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

Ever since forming in 2008 and releasing their debut album, 2012’s My Father and the Hunter, Two-time JUNO award-winning alternative group The Strumbellas have steadily shared follow-ups containing every ounce of folk-tinged gusto, from 2013's We Still Move on Dance Floors to 2016's Hope to 2019's Rattlesnake. The band will soon round the corner with a brand-new fifth studio album, Part Time Believer (out ), a collection that signals The Strumbellas’ grand return and rebirth.
“We had a slow pandemic,” says David Ritter of the period between Rattlesnake and Part Time Believer. Unable to tour, The Strumbellas put every last bit of energy into perfecting Part Time Believer, spending days behind the scenes composing and writing songs. “There was no real pressure,” adds Jon Hembrey. “We kind of went into it with the thought of, ‘Hey, let's just write what we write, and then sift through all that and find what we want.’ This was the time when we had the most material to draw from. It was a deliberative, collaborative process.”

In February of 2020, only days after Miss Emily celebrated the Maple Blues triple crown of Female Vocalist, New Artist and Sapphire Blues Video of the year, the world shut down. You could still hear the roar of the crowd as the door slammed shut on performances, recording and almost everything else in the music industry. For the first time in two decades, Miss Emily had an empty calendar. With no frame of reference for pandemics or lockdowns, it took some time to understand what the next steps should be. Somewhere between virtual shows and long nights sequestered in the music room, an idea began to take shape. Of the many cancelled shows, perhaps the most disappointing loss was a return to the venue that had become a second home; The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts in her adopted hometown of Kingston. After six sellout, foundation-rattling shows, fans, band, and team members alike had been looking forward to extending the streak. In a moment of reminiscence and sadness, it occurred to Emily that she had professional recordings from each show at the Isabel. That’s nearly ten albums worth of songs.

Sergeants Mess Hall

The 177-seat Sergeants Mess Hall at Base31 is the newest performance venue to open in Prince Edward County. This architectural gem has been renovated and repurposed as a unique and intimate concert venue, featuring state-of-the art sound and lighting, with its original historic charm and character retained. The Sergeants Mess Hall has a rich history dating back to its construction in 1939. The building was originally built as a mess hall for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) No. 31 Bombing and Gunnery School during World War II. During the war, the building served as a gathering place for the sergeants who were stationed at the base. It was a place where they could relax, eat meals, and socialize with their fellow soldiers. After the war, the base was decommissioned and the building served a variety of purposes over the years, including as a community centre, a school, and a storage facility.

Miss Emily

Half Moon Run’s three multi-instrumentalist-slash-vocalists are Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, and Dylan Phillips. The trio’s origin story involves a 2009 Craigslist ad and a dingy jam space in Montreal’s Mile End, where they spent their formative years creating the restless, six-armed entity that composes and performs their intricate, kaleidoscopic songs—as well as writing their platinum debut album, Dark Eyes (Indica, 2012). Their sophomore effort, Sun Leads Me On, dropped in 2015 with Glassnote in the US and Communion in the UK. It was followed by A Blemish in the Great Light (2019), Seasons Of Change (2020) and Inwards and Onwards (2021)— two of which won a Junos for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. Rock The County Music Festival: The Trews / Matt Mays

Jane Siberry is regarded as a unique and gifted singer-songwriter. She has released fifteen recordings, including her well-loved signature song Calling All Angels. Jane’s songs have been covered by numerous artists, including k.d. lang with her stunning renditions of Love is Everything and the 23rd Psalm-inspired The Valley. Many know her from her song It Won’t Rain All the Time which was featured in actor Brandon Lee’s final film, ‘The Crow’. Recognized as a forward-thinking artist, her creativity does not stop with her music, continuing into how she operates in the music world. Siberry was one of the first to set up ‘self-determined transactions’ (pwyw) for her music ‘I felt I was holding my songs hostage and it felt really wrong’. She has added online webinars, songwriting workshops and one- on-one ‘Jane-Takes’ on taking visions to manifestation and declutterieg. Her creativity has also infiltrated the fashion world with a personal style store at her online store ‘Magic-the- Dog’. Jackie Richardson is an award-winning singer and actor whose career spans more than five decades, earning her national recognition as Canada’s reigning queen of jazz, blues and gospel. Along with two JUNO Award nominations, Jackie’s national recognition includes the Black Theatre Workshop’s Martin Luther King Jr. Award (2016), a Lifetime Achievement Award from Canadian Actor’s Equity (2007), an African Canadian Achievement Award, and a Canadian Black Achievement Award (to name a few). Internationally, Jackie was honored to be an NAACP Image Award nominee in 2003 for Best Actress in a Television Movie for ‘Sins of the Father.’ She is also a Gemini and Dora Award-winning actor who has appeared in numerous musical theatre productions, films and television series. In 2014, the Toronto Star named Jackie one of 180 people who have helped shaped the city since it was founded. In 2021, it was announced that Jackie would be named an Honorary Member to the Order of Canada.
Ontario-born Kim Richardson has been singing for over 40 years. The three-time Juno award winner has been calling Montreal her home for over 30 years. Her musical travels have taken her across Canada as well as parts of the United States, Europe, Africa and South America.
She has recorded two albums – Kaleidoscope (2006) and Mes amours (2011) as well as many singles including the latest one entitled “No Mountain Too High” with singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, Jason Lang.

Sergeants Mess Hall

The 177-seat Sergeants Mess Hall at Base31 is the newest performance venue to open in Prince Edward County. This architectural gem has been renovated and repurposed as a unique and intimate concert venue, featuring state-of-the art sound and lighting, with its original historic charm and character retained. The Sergeants Mess Hall has a rich history dating back to its construction in 1939. The building was originally built as a mess hall for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) No. 31 Bombing and Gunnery School during World War II. During the war, the building served as a gathering place for the sergeants who were stationed at the base. It was a place where they could relax, eat meals, and socialize with their fellow soldiers. After the war, the base was decommissioned and the building served a variety of purposes over the years, including as a community centre, a school, and a storage facility.

General Admission Seating is first come, first served in this section. We ask that you please do not save seats for individuals who have not yet arrived. Our goal is to create an enjoyable and comfortable experience for all attendees.

Jill Barber is a 3 time Juno Award nominee and recent winner of the Producer of the Year Award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. She has toured the world playing prestigious jazz and folk festivals as well as esteemed venues as Toronto’s Massey Hall, Tokyo’s Blue Note, The Dubai Expo and more.
Older brother Matthew Barber, who introduced Jill to the guitar and his CD collection, is a 2 time Juno Award nominee, who’s sound harkens back to the classic era of Laurel Canyon and the Yorkville scene of 1960’s Toronto. Matthew has toured with Sam Roberts, Chris Isaak, Matt Mays and more.
Together, Matthew and Jill made The Family Album, nominated for a Juno Award, it highlighted their beautiful harmonies on songs by Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young, Ian Tyson and more.

Celebrate Pride Week with this special event! 
 
In collaboration with Kingston Pride and Reelout Arts Project, Kingston WritersFest invites you to an evening of Pride.
 
Join Lambda-award-winning writer Michael Rowe for a conversation about Pride, a book that reflects on the 50th anniversary of Toronto’s first gay rights march. Michael will talk with Trevor Campbell, host and creator of the You Made Me Queer podcast, about the history of this important march and how it helped lay the groundwork for what has become one of the largest gay pride festivals in the world. They’ll also explore the challenges the queer community has faced since.
 
Accompanying the onstage conversation will be a gorgeous slideshow of 120 photographs by artist Angel Guerra whose portraits shine a light on moments of joy, strength, ferocity, resilience and love. At a time when 2SLGBTQI+ rights are under renewed threat throughout the world, this is an opportunity to connect with community and offer solidarity, as well as celebrate.
 
A Q&A and book signing will follow the onstage event. Books for sale onsite by Novel Idea Bookstore.

Michael Rowe is the award-winning author of the novels Enter, Night, Wild Fell, and October, two books of essays, and a book of interviews. His nonfiction has appeared in the National Post, The Globe & Mail, the Ottawa Citizen, the Huffington Post, SHARP, and The Boston Globe, as well as eight years as a contributing writer to The Advocate. For 17 years Michael was a first-tier correspondent for the legendary horror film magazine Fangoria, which he credits as the best job he ever had. His second essay collection, Other Men’s Sons won the Randy Shilts Award for Nonfiction. Other awards include the Lambda Literary Award and Queer Horror Award, and he has been a finalist for the National Magazine Award, the International Horror Guild Award, the Sunburst Award, the Shirley Jackson Award, and the GLAAD Media Award. He lives in Toronto, ON.

Trevor Campbell is a writer, host, and comedian who can regularly be heard on CBC Radio/Podcasts. His work has earned him four Canadian Podcast Awards, recommendations by Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Xtra, Yohomo and CBC, and an invitation to open for Full Frontal with Samantha Bee at the 2022 Hot Docs Podcast Festival. He is the host and creator of You Made Me Queer!, an accusatory podcast about queer origin stories for the Sonar Network, with past guests including Olympic gold medalist Mark Tewksbury, director Sook-Yin Lee, author Joshua Whitehead, drag legend Jinkx Monsoon, and The Kids in the Hall’s Scott Thompson. This June, he'll be releasing a new limited series podcast called Queerial, a true crime-ish satire with a twist. Though he’s often told he has a face for radio, Trevor can be seen on stage as a host and moderator for major festivals including Buddies in Bad Times Queer Pride, Toronto Comicon, Fan Expo Canada, MOTIVE Crime and Mystery Festival, and the Toronto International Festival of Authors.
