The Highland Gathering is an outdoor event held at Broadmoor Lake in the heart of Sherwood Park ensuring easy access for all. The event consists of piping and drumming competitions, massed band performances, highland dance competitions, and Scottish heavy games. There are also children’s activities, food trucks, a beer garden, community market, and a Ceilidh as well as Sunday entertainment provided by local music groups and dance studios. Sheep and Duck herding demos take place in Sunday and the Highland Cows will be on site.

Family Orientation is a program offered by New Student Orientation that focuses on the transition of new students to the UofA community and their families. It aims to provide students and families with tips and tricks for supporting one another throughout the shift to post-secondary education. 
This year, Family Orientation program will be taking place from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday, July 25th at the University of Alberta North Campus. Additionally, there will be optional Campus and Lister Residence tours from 3:30PM - 4:30PM.

 
Family Orientation consists of two different programming streams: one for incoming students, and one for their family members. A variety of unique opportunities and sessions are scheduled for both tracks! 
Incoming Students will explore an introduction to University life with experiences such as:

Presentations about academics, student life, adulting, and more!
A student panel to ask burning questions to current U of A students from across disciplines
A chance to practice riding Edmonton public transit on their lunch excursion to visit “Taste of Edmonton”, one of Edmonton’s largest food festivals located downtown!
Printed handbook with additional content and resources
Optional tours of campus and Lister Residence!

Family members and supporters will be offered an experience tailored to their role in supporting their incoming student through:

Presentations about academics, finances, supporting your student, residence, wellness, safety, and more!
A student panel to ask burning questions to current U of A students from across disciplines
Services Fair over the lunch hour showcasing various campus services
Printed handbook with additional content and resources
Optional tours of campus and Lister Residence!

Catherine MacLellan has been captivating audiences around the world with her music for more than two decades. Born and raised in the idyllic province of Prince Edward Island, her songs reflect her deep connection to the land and the people that call it home. Her passion for songwriting runs in the family; her father, Gene MacLellan, wrote beloved hits like "Snowbird" and "Put Your Hand in the Hand."
While her music is rooted in folk and roots, her sound has evolved to embrace a wider range of influences over the course of her seven albums. From heart-wrenching ballads to uplifting anthems, MacLellan's music has a universal appeal that speaks to the struggles, triumphs and joys of life.
In addition to her musical pursuits, MacLellan has also dedicated herself to shining a light on her father's legacy, producing an award-winning documentary and stage show exploring his life and struggles with mental health.
Through it all, she remains committed to the craft of songwriting and the art of connection. Whether she's performing in a packed theatre or an intimate gathering, her warm presence and heartfelt music create an unforgettable experience for all who hear her.

Joshua Burnside is an experimental folk songwriter, singer and producer. He takes influence from alternative electronica and Irish folk, chopping and blending them with a mixture of found sounds, world music and unorthodox production methods.
Following an award-winning debut album and an acclaimed follow-up released during the global pandemic, his music lives against the grain, in both style and spirit. Raised between Strangford Lough and East Belfast, his work reflects the complexities of post-conflict Northern Ireland.
Burnside's songwriting explores family, trauma, renewal and existence, set against layered electronica and traditional Irish folk influences. He has entrenched himself within the fabric of the modern folk canon, alongside the likes of Bon Iver, Ben Howard and Sufjan Stevens.
His award-winning first album, Ephrata, took in lush landscapes, technological horrors, night terrors and wistful Columbian vistas (set against a bed of Irish folk, cumbia rhythms and electronica), his critically acclaimed second Into The Depths Of Hell, took a far darker approach. Melding swirls of clanging metallic found sounds, alt-rock and Irish songwriting traditions were supported by UK and US national radio and international tastemakers NPR, Guitar Magazine, CLASH, The Guardian, The Times and more.
His third album, Teeth Of Time, sits comfortably and confrontationally between the alt-folk realms of Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens while retaining the indie singer-songwriter and traditional folk elements of his signature songwriting.

From The Tonight Show to Canada’s Got Talent, comedian Kamal Alaeddine has charmed audiences around the world. Now he’s turning his most audacious real-life hustle into a wildly funny, no-holds-barred solo show: The Art of the Con.
At 20 years old, a young and lazy Kamal discovered that his ample size could be turned into a meal ticket—literally. Conning his way onto government welfare for being “fat,” he set off a chain of scams that would take him from candy factory glory to bizarre run-ins with unexpected danger, deception, and absurd self-discovery.
Packed with jaw-dropping twists, confessional storytelling, and Alaeddine’s razor-sharp wit, The Art of the Con is a masterclass in getting away with it… until you don’t. It’s a hilarious, occasionally shocking reminder that sometimes the “easy” road takes a lot more work.
