The Carer - With moments of dark comedy and heartbreaking sadness, The Carer aims to give a raw insight into a daughter’s mental and physical breakdown under the demands of full-time care giving. Lisa is a woman in her forties who has never truly left home, as she is caring for her sick mother. Today is tougher than most; Lisa has missed the deadline on her final Masters assignment. Will she learn how to establish the necessary boundaries in her life before it’s too late?
Daddy’s Girl - Te Puhi prepares herself for the toughest day of her life as the harsh reality of her father’s dementia forces her to face the painful truth that her relationship is changing with the most important person in her life - her Daddy. Daddy’s Girl is a story about the powerful love between a father and his daughter and the ability for that love to remain, even when all else seems lost. Watch Trailer
La Coiffeuse (The Hairdresser) - Kathleen is a hairdresser. Always has been. Always will be. Even at 83, she’s still doing hair. But not in the way you would expect. Her work is special. For the last 31 years she has done the hair of the terminally ill in palliative care. In this short, poetic documentary, Kathleen reflects on her experience while we bear witness to her unusual work. Dogwatch - After losing his lifelong position at an industrial corporation, Raphael is forced by the Austrian Unemployment Office to take an underwhelming job as a night-time security guard. He recently moved back in with his bedridden mother, who is also cared for by the dedicated Ukrainian nurse Vera. Through her support, Raphael gradually learns to cope with his new life, but a tragic incident breaks his world apart once more. A warm-hearted narrative about a part of society, whose basis of existence is increasingly threatened. Watch Trailer

GUEST SPEAKERS:
Lisa Poole is a family caregiver & provides insight from the perspective of lived experience. Her father, John has vascular dementia. Lisa is on Dementia Network Calgary’s Strategic Council, the board of Gordie Howe C.A.R.E.S., founded Dementia Connections Magazine and is involved with several other dementia-related community initiatives.
Lorraine Price is a Canadian Screen Award-winning writer / director who makes character driven films about people living unconventional lives. Her films have screened internationally at festivals such as Hot Docs, AFI Docs, Big Sky and Hot Springs and been presented on PBS / POV: Docs, Bell Media's Crave, and CBC to name a few. In 2017, Lorraine was selected among hundreds of applicants to take part in a filmmaking workshop with Werner Herzog. She is Canadian / American and currently resides in Montreal.
ACCESSIBILITY
All films will be either subtitled or closed captioned.
All ReCast screenings (short film series with speakers) will have American Sign Language (ASL) Interpretation of the screening introduction and Q&A sessions.

HOW TO "ATTEND" THE EVENT ONLINE
Your email confirmation from Showpass (once you have bought your ticket) will contain your unique personalized link to the event. It will be in the body of the email - not in the ticket that is attached to the email.
Your link should not be shared - once it is used, it cannot be used again to access the screening. Just prior to the start of the event, click that link and you will be taken to a website where you can watch the film, its live introduction and live Q&A/close after the film.
If you have lost or deleted your confirmation email from Showpass, please email "help@thirdactionfilmfest.ca" AT LEAST 1 HOUR PRIOR TO SHOWTIME. We will be able to help you.

There are no refunds or exchanges unless a screening or event is cancelled. All passholders and tickets holders should be either in cinema 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time or if attending online, 5 minutes prior to scheduled start time.
