Music Literacy for Beginners with Natalie Ehrenholz

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This one is specially tailored for teens & adults who would like to build their skills in reading and understanding a musical score!

Natalie will be leading the participants through a 2-week crash course covering the basics of reading music, focusing on the skills needed to read a vocal score similar to musical theatre or operetta.

Week one will include instruction on the musical alphabet, the staff, accidentals, rhythm, dynamics and musical terminology.  Then in week two we will dive deeper, covering tones/semitones, the Major/Minor Scales, the Circle of 5ths, intervals & basic harmonies. 

All materials will be provided, and we will be using excerpts from our upcoming production of Patience as a case study!

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Natalie Ehrenholz has been playing the piano since age 5, and began teaching in 2010. She holds a BA in Behavioural Science and Music and has completed Royal Conservatory of Music courses including Grade 10 Piano and Elementary Piano Pedagogy. She has taught students ranging in age from 5-70, with the goal of instilling a love of music and providing them with the necessary tools to keep learning music throughout their lives. It is her hope that her students enjoy their lessons, while also being supported in the right ways to continue to grow and be challenged.
