Audiences are welcome into Rosanna Terracciano’s creative process for a new evening-length solo performance and video work in this informal showing after a week-long development residency at the Heather Edwards Theatre in Contemporary Calgary. 

My folk dance of language and seed explores the interplay and connection between her personal flamenco and her own cultural roots from Napoli. Southern Spain versus southern Italy. Different but linked histories representing themselves in her body and her ways of moving.  

 

This work is a development of an excerpt from an earlier trilogy work in Terracciano’s repertoire, PLACE/is a city written on this body?, which was created and presented with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Calgary Arts Development, DJD Dance Centre Creative Residency Program (Calgary) and Studio La Lola (Montreal), and presented by Springboard Performance (Calgary)/National Arts Centre (Ottawa) online, Mile Zero Dance (Edmonton), Stream of Dance (Regina) and Vancouver International Flamenco Festival. 

 

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

A professional dance artist for 20+ years, originally from Calgary, Rosanna Terracciano experiments within and around the boundaries of flamenco, dance, contemporary performance and short film, driven by an urgency to expose the quiet and introverted aspects of all that surrounds her in art and life. Her solo performance works and short films have been presented throughout Canada and Europe, with notable performances including the Bienal de Flamenco (Sevilla, 2014), Coetani Experimental Flamenco Festival (Athens, 2015), Flamenco Empirico (Barcelona, 2011, 2012) and National Arts Centre online (Ottawa, 2021). Significant recent collaborations include choreographing/dancing in a music video for Calgary band Ghostkeeper (2025) and participating in creation and production periods in Hamburg (Germany, 2023), at the Dusseldorf Flamenco Festival (tanzhaus nrw, 2019) and at Barcelona’s house of dance, Mercat de les Flors (2019). She is the 2017 recipient of the Jacqueline Lemieux Prize for dance from the Canada Council for the Arts.
