Description
Join Urban Ink Forager Jason Logan and host Shelley Youngblut for a fascinating conversation about the ways we can all become city builders and environmental advocates through engaging with ink, one of mankind's oldest forms of communication. In 2014, Logan began a citizen science experiment to make eco-friendly, urban ink from street-harvested pigments. Since then, The Toronto Ink Company has become far more than just an inkmaker: it's a revolution in natural colour that uses street foraging as a jumping off point for thinking about community, innovation, sustainability and opening our minds to the beauty at our feet.
"Being a writer who still uses ink to write out, and then cross out, each early draft of a manuscript, even into this twenty-first century, I had to meet Jason. We sat down in his kitchen and it felt like being introduced to someone with the skills of some lost medieval craft." — Michael Ondaatje, from the forward to Make Ink
"Make Ink is a remarkable book on the alchemy of inkmaking that combines science, art, craft and foraging. You will never again look at rust, soot, peach stones, or fag ends in the same way." — The Guardian
"Logan revels in taking an experimental 'let’s try this' attitude to every new project. Recently someone requested ink made out of the torn down structures of a famous old hotel, and he found himself grinding down bricks, taking soil samples, and researching its most famous guests." — Design Observor
