Description
“Women Who Dig” follows a compelling group of Canadian women farmers and land stewards who are quietly but powerfully challenging the industrial agricultural system. Over three years of intimate cinema verité filming, the documentary draws us into the day-to-day lives of these women as they wrestle with issues like food insecurity, climate change, and the loss of biodiversity caused by large-scale industrial farming. Rooted in traditional farming techniques and ancestral knowledge, these women aren’t just growing food — they’re nurturing community, resisting corporate control of the food system, and reimagining what sustainable agriculture can look like. Based on the book Women Who Dig: Farming, Feminism, and the Fight to Feed the World, the film blends personal stories of hope, resilience and struggle with broader themes of gender equality, social justice, and ecological stewardship.
