About the band:
Wheel is a progressive metal band founded in Helsinki, Finland in 2015 by British frontman James Lascelles. Blending intricate polyrhythms, atmospheric textures, and introspective lyrics, Wheel quickly established themselves as one of Europe’s most compelling modern prog acts.
Their debut EP The Path (2017) introduced their signature fusion of heavy grooves and layered melodies, drawing comparisons to Tool, Karnivool, and Porcupine Tree. The follow-up EP The Divide (2018) expanded their sonic depth and earned attention across the progressive scene.
In 2019, Wheel released their first full-length album, Moving Backwards, showcasing precision musicianship and raw emotion through complex structures and immersive soundscapes. Their 2021 album Resident Human deepened their focus on existential themes and the human condition, recorded during the global pandemic and reflecting its isolation and tension.
The band’s lineup features James Lascelles (vocals/guitar), Jussi Turunen (guitar), Aki Virtanen (bass), and Santeri Saksala (drums). Known for their explosive live performances and evolving artistry, Wheel continues to push the boundaries of progressive metal while maintaining a deep emotional core.
