Valentines Day with the Artichoke Hearts and Special Guest Annie Martel

The Artichoke Hearts is the indie folk-pop project led by Wakefield Quebec singer-songwriter Caitlin Dolan. Drawing inspiration from nature, mental health, and the complexities of human connection, The Artichoke Hearts craft songs that invite listeners to peel back their layers—much like their namesake—to uncover raw emotion and truth. Their live show is a rare thrill - a no holds barred fusion of piano, violin, accordion, trumpet and powerful three-part harmonies.

In 2024, The Artichoke Hearts released their first full length album ‘No Other Road’ to a sold out crowd at the NAC Fourth Stage, following their first Ottawa Bluesfest performance earlier that summer. 2025 has brought two new singles and performances at local favourite folk venues such as Motel Chelsea and Ottawa’s Red Bird. 

The Artichoke Hearts are delighted to be returning to the ever-romantic Motel Chelsea for their 2nd annual Valentine’s Day show.

A treasured local gem, Annie Martel has a gift for turning sadness into solace. She calls it sad lady folk—raw, emotive songwriting delivered with vulnerability, warmth, and a voice that lingers like a memory. Her performances land like a gut punch of feeling, softened by radiant charm and wry wit. It’s music that holds heartbreak in one hand and a hug in the other. Annie’s highly anticipated debut album arrives early 2026.

The Artichoke Hearts est un projet indie folk-pop mené par l'auteure-compositrice-interprète Caitlin Dolan, originaire de Wakefield, au Québec. S'inspirant de la nature, de la santé mentale et de la complexité des relations humaines, The Artichoke Hearts compose des chansons qui invitent les auditeurs à se dévoiler, à l'image de leur nom, pour révéler leurs émotions brutes et leur vérité. Leurs concerts sont une expérience rare et passionnante, une fusion sans limites entre le piano, le violon, l'accordéon, la trompette et de puissantes harmonies à trois voix.

En 2024, The Artichoke Hearts a sorti son premier album complet, « No Other Road », devant une salle comble au Quatrième Étage du CNA, après avoir donné son premier concert au Bluesfest d'Ottawa plus tôt cet été-là. L'année 2025 a vu la sortie de deux nouveaux singles et des concerts dans des salles folk locales très appréciées, telles que le Motel Chelsea et le Red Bird d'Ottawa.

The Artichoke Hearts est ravi de revenir au Motel Chelsea, lieu toujours aussi romantique, pour son deuxième concert annuel de la Saint-Valentin.

Véritable joyau local, Annie Martel a le don de transformer la tristesse en réconfort. Elle appelle cela le « sad lady folk » : des compositions brutes et émouvantes, interprétées avec vulnérabilité et chaleur, et une voix qui reste en mémoire comme un souvenir. Ses performances sont comme un coup de poing dans le ventre, adouci par un charme rayonnant et un humour ironique. C'est une musique qui tient le chagrin dans une main et une étreinte dans l'autre. Le premier album très attendu d'Annie sortira début 2026.
