Cendrillon, by Pauline Viardot

Cendrillon had its premiere performance in the Parisian salon of the composer, Pauline Viardot, in 1904.  Viardot was the daughter of the great Spanish tenor and singing teacher, Manuel García, and she was a legendary singer, pianist, and composer throughout the 19^th and early 20^th centuries.  She studied piano with Franz Liszt, inspired countless composers with her singing, including Hector Berlioz, Charles Gounod, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Johannes Brahms, and she was close friends with Frédéric Chopin and George Sand.  This charming opera is a retelling of the Cinderella story, more light-hearted than most opera adaptations of this tale!

Estudió piano con Franz Liszt, inspiró a innumerables compositores con su canto, entre ellos Héctor Berlioz, Charles Gounod, Camille Saint-Saëns y Johannes Brahms, y fue amiga íntima de Frédéric Chopin y George Sand. Esta encantadora ópera es un recuento de la historia de Cenicienta, ¡más alegre que la mayoría de las adaptaciones de ópera de este cuento!
