Description

EARC Presentation

The Upu Collective is a New Zealand-based ensemble of Pacific performing artists dedicated to creating contemporary works that centre Pacific stories, languages, and lived experiences. With a shared mission to amplify Pacific voices in theatre and film, the collective champions culturally grounded storytelling while expanding opportunities for Pacific artists across Aotearoa and beyond.

Each member of the collective brings extensive experience in New Zealand’s performing arts landscape — from stage to screen — and collaborates to produce original, Pacific-led work with both creative excellence and cultural integrity. Their signature work, UPU, is a stunning theatrical interpretation of Pacific poetry that has captivated audiences with its power, passion, and poetic truth.

After successful runs across Aotearoa, UPU began its international journey in 2024, with performances in Mexico and Montréal. With compelling performances, evocative design, and a deep respect for the source material, UPU delivers a uniquely Pacific perspective that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
