Launch the festival with an inspiring evening of music, community, and celebration at the Opening Concert of Unison Festival 2026, held at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

Unison Festival is Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQIA+ choral festival, bringing together choirs from across the country for a joyful celebration of music and community. This year’s festival is guided by the theme “Music Healing Spirit,” exploring the ways music connects, uplifts, and strengthens our communities.

Curated by Festival Artistic Directors Willi Zwordesky and Kimberley Vance-Mubanga, the Opening Concert sets the tone for the weekend with powerful performances from the host chorus and choirs from across British Columbia.

The evening also features special guest soloist Corey Payette, an award-winning Two-Spirit, gay interdisciplinary performer, writer, composer, and director of Anishinaabe and French Canadian heritage. Known for groundbreaking works that weave together Indigenous storytelling, music, and theatre, Payette’s performances explore identity, culture, and the power of art to create dialogue and healing.

Donnez le coup d’envoi du festival avec une soirée inspirante de musique, de communauté et de célébration lors du concert d’ouverture du Festival Unisson 2026, au théâtre Queen Elizabeth.

Le Festival Unisson est le plus grand festival choral 2SLGBTQIA+ au Canada, réunissant des chœurs de partout au pays pour une célébration joyeuse de la musique et de la communauté. Le thème de cette année, « Musique Guérison Esprit », explore les façons dont la musique nous relie, nous élève et renforce nos communautés.

Sous la direction artistique du festival, assurée par Willi Zwozdesky et Kimberley Vance-Mubanga, le concert d’ouverture donne le ton du week-end avec des performances marquantes du chœur hôte et de chœurs de partout en Colombie-Britannique. 

La soirée met également en vedette l’artiste invité Corey Payette, un artiste interdisciplinaire primé – auteur, compositeur et metteur en scène – bispirituel et gai, d’ascendance anishinaabe et canadienne-française. Reconnu pour ses œuvres novatrices qui tissent des liens entre récit autochtone, musique et théâtre, Payette explore dans son travail les thèmes de l’identité, de la culture et du pouvoir de l’art comme vecteur de dialogue et de guérison.
