Description
Celebrate the grand finale of Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQIA+ choral festival with an unforgettable evening of music, community, and connection at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
The Closing Concert brings together voices from across the country for a powerful culmination of the Unison Festival — a joyful celebration inspired by this year’s theme, “Music Healing Spirit.” Under the artistic leadership of Festival Artistic Directors Willi Zwordesky and Kimberley Vance-Mubanga, the program highlights the incredible artistry and collective spirit of Canada’s 2SLGBTQIA+ choral community.
The evening features more than 300 Unison chorus members who have come together from across the country to perform in the Unison Festival Choruses.
The concert also welcomes special guests M’Girl, an acclaimed Indigenous women’s vocal and hand-drum ensemble based on the lands now known as Vancouver. For more than two decades, M’Girl has brought together Indigenous women from diverse Nations across Turtle Island, including Cree, Anishinaabe, St’át’imc, Tsimshian, and Mohawk communities.
Led by Cree and Saulteaux artist Renae Morriseau, the ensemble shares songs rooted in ceremony, storytelling, and ancestral teachings. Their performances blend powerful vocal harmonies with traditional hand-drum rhythms, celebrating Indigenous languages, relationships to land and water, and the strength of Indigenous women’s voices. Through their music, M’Girl continues the cultural practice of sharing stories and songs that honour community, resilience, and the spirit of Indigenous resurgence.
2NTNB Festival Ensemble — conducted by Jackie Falconer (Toronto, Ontario)
SATB Festival Chorus — conducted by Chelsi Walsh (Halifax, Nova Scotia)
SSAA Festival Chorus — conducted by Crystal Bergman (Coquitlam, British Columbia)
TTBB Festival Chorus — conducted by Jean-Louis Bleau (Chilliwack, British Columbia)
Together, these voices create a powerful finale reflecting the heart of Unison Festival — community, celebration, and the transformative power of music.
