Description

Trio Africa!

Have you ever heard the sound of the Kora?

Imagine being in an African village. Everybody is back from a day of hard work in the field. The children are playing joyfully, the men are laughing while playing games, and the women are proudly making the finishing touches to the meal they are going to feed their family. As a member of this village, you feel received, supported and loved & appreciated. You know you are in for a fantastic night because you are with your community, and being together is all that matters.

On September 27, we want you to be part of our village. To celebrate and honor you, we are welcoming a true Master of several traditional West African instruments, including the Kora. A kora is a Mandinka harp built from a small calabash cut in half and covered with cow skin to make a resonator with a long hardwood neck. The skin is supported by two handles that run under it. It has 21 strings, each playing a different note.

Kora players have traditionally come from jali families who are traditional historians, genealogists and storytellers who pass their skills on to their descendants.

Our very special guest this year is

ADAMA BILOROU DEMBELE

With:
International Musician and Dancer ETIENNE CAKPO from Benin, West Africa

and

Multi-instrumentalist and singer KURAI MUBAIWA from Zimbabwe, Southern Africa

With Special Guest: Storyteller JEAN PIERRE MAKOSSO!!!

This is AN AUTHENTIC VILLAGE EXPERIENCE!!!

In African traditions, musicians are healers. Playing music to benefit the people is a fundamental value in our musical culture, therefore when you are playing music, you need to be conscious of how you are affecting people. Musicians who are trained the traditional way are specifically trained to be aware of their role, because they can heal or hurt! Their role is to ensure the well-being of the people in their community, and it is never taken lightly.

You will be touched by the healing vibration of our traditional instruments.
