The Woodshed at Saturday Night Special

Chinook Musical Society presents a series of high-quality musical acts every year under the name "Saturday Night Special".

We host performers from folk and country, to blues, Celtic and folk rock. While we do bring in acts from all over North America, and some international, we are especially proud to showcase Canadian and Alberta talent.

On January 11, 2025 we'll open with The Kirby Sewell Trio, and two sets from our headliner: The Woodshed!

No strangers to our Saturday Night Special stage, The Woodshed is acclaimed roots songwriters John Wort Hannam and T. Buckley. The name refers to the beginning of their collaboration, which consisted of “woodshedding” songs together during a residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in 2017.

After a captivating performance at the 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards, Buckley and Hannam finally decided to ratify their collaboration and bring The Woodshed to life. Together they bring a beautiful vocal blend of brotherly harmonies combined with gutsy and sophisticated song writing alongside intricate guitar playing.

Opening our show, is award-winning blues vocalist Kirby Sewell, joined by Jerry Proppe on grand piano and Jeff Meszaros on acoustic guitar, blending their voices in harmony to breathe new life into classics. From McCartney’s melodic elegance to Simon’s storytelling, from Clapton’s raw blues to Bowie’s edge, they'll take us on a musical journey that moves from gospel’s rich resonance to New Orleans’ lively streets.
