Description

Join Calgary Pride on April 19 from 1-5pm at The Confluence (formerly Fort Calgary) to learn about the Policing of Pride Project and share your thoughts and feedback!

This community engagement event is designed to be informative, flexible, and participant-led. Attendees are invited to explore the space at their own pace, connect with project information, and participate in ways that feel comfortable for them. This project is in partnership with the Fyrefly Institute for Gender and Sexual Diversity, The Confluence, and made possible by funding from Women and Gender Equity (WAGE) Canada.

Date: Sunday, April 19, 2026
Time: 1:00–5:00 pm
Arrival / concentrated registration period: 12:45–1:00 pm
Location: The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland

Project Goals:

  • Understand how intersecting identities shape feelings of safety at Pride and beyond
  • Centre lived experiences through public engagement, interviews, and community surveys
  • Develop community-informed recommendations for systemic change

What to expect:

  • Open concept layout, choose your own adventure
  • Information stations, you pick what you want to learn and talk about in a group setting
  • History between the queer community and Calgary Police Service
  • History of the Policing of Pride Project
  • Research structure
  • Opportunities to get involved
  • Community resources available
  • Project specialists on hand to answer questions
  • Light refreshments
  • Mental health support on site

Participants will also be invited to:

  • Self-select the discussion table or topic they want to join
  • Participate only to the extent that feels right for them
  • Leave at any time, for any reason

To support the research process and event flow, room registration will take place on a rolling basis throughout the event.

All attendees may chose how they would like to engage and will receive a consent form upon checking in on arrival.

Attendees are welcome to drop in at any time during the event. While we encourage arrival between 12:45–1:00 pm for a smoother check-in experience, attendees are welcome to join later and participate in whichever parts of the event feel most relevant to them.

Because this event is part of a broader research framework, completing the consent process is required before participating in event activities.
