Following the success of The Lady from the Sea, acclaimed director Simon Stone returns to the Bridge Theatre with a bold new adaptation of The Oresteia.

Playing for a strictly limited run from 2 July – 19 September 2026, this gripping reimagining of Aeschylus’ ancient trilogy transforms one of history’s greatest tragedies into a fierce and emotionally charged contemporary drama.

Centred on the cursed House of Atreus, The Oresteia follows a devastating cycle of revenge and justice. Returning war hero Agamemnon is murdered by his wife Clytemnestra, only for their son Orestes to seek bloody vengeance in return. Hunted by the terrifying Furies for his crimes, Orestes is forced to confront guilt, morality, and the price of justice as the story builds towards a groundbreaking trial overseen by the goddess Athena.

First performed in Athens in 458 BCE, The Oresteia remains one of the most influential works in theatre history. This new production reunites the creative team behind the “fantastically original, gripping and magnificent” (The Guardian) The Lady from the Sea. Director Simon Stone is the recipient of Olivier, Drama Desk, and Obie Awards for Yerma, and also received a BAFTA nomination for The Dig. This production is recommended for ages 15+.
