The Onion: A Gala for Weirdos is the second annual Sustainable Fashion Show produced by UNLEASH with the support of What’s Good YYJ. UNLEASH has partnered with the Victoria Event Centre to bring you a vibrant evening of sustainable fashion, drag, burlesque, dance, comedy, a mini market and much more. You do not want to miss the enticing layers that The Onion has to offer.

The Onion: A Gala for Weirdos is a showcase of the collaboration between local drag artists, burlesque performers, dancers, performance artists, comedians, and sustainable fashion designers.

You are encouraged to dress-up, wear the thing you never reach for, and enjoy the evening as the artists peel back the layers of The Onion right before your eyes.

The Onion is hosted by Rita Gayworth, with her old Hollywood charm and cheek, she will leave your jaw and her clothes on the floor. Rita Gayworth is an experienced emcee, comedienne, and dancer who has performed across the West Coast and has debuted a solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The Onion is a collaboration of artists from all mediums including the cities favourite drag artists Sylvester Stalletto and Boy Gorgeous, fashion by International Master Florist Katherine Olmstead, Burlesque by Pacific Blue, Shibari by Ada x L'Amour, fashion by Burd Howse Studios, polaroids by Hi Bertie, with many more talented performers and a mini market by the designers.

The Onion is produced by Sam of UNLEASH, with a vision of uniting artists, fostering community, creating sustainably and just doing the damn thing. She produced “The Show” last year and is ready for this sold-out show to take the stage with a new crew of talented creatives. Sam runs the upcycled clothing brand UNLEASH, is a photographer, printmaker, performance artist, art school dropout, and lover of pushing the envelope.

The Onion: A Gala for Weirdos takes place at the Victoria Event Centre on September 8th 2024.

Doors and market open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:30.
