The North Sound is an award-winning roots-Americana group based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, led by Blackfoot singer-songwriter/multi instrumentalist Forrest Eaglespeaker and vocalist Nevada Eaglespeaker.  Blending elements of Americana, folk-rock, and alt-country, the group crafts songs that speak to lived experience, exploring themes of belonging, perseverance, and the search for connection with sincerity and heart.

Whether performing as an intimate duo or a full five-piece band, The North Sound invites audiences into an experience that feels both personal and universal. Their music is grounded in the power of storytelling, offering moments of reflection, healing, and joy. The North Sound est un groupe de musique roots-Americana primé, basé à Saskatoon, en Saskatchewan, dirigé par le chanteur-compositeur et multi-instrumentiste blackfoot Forrest Eaglespeaker et la chanteuse Nevada Eaglespeaker. Mêlant des éléments d’Americana, de folk-rock et d’alt-country, le groupe compose des chansons qui parlent d’expériences vécues, explorant avec sincérité et émotion les thèmes de l’appartenance, de la persévérance et de la quête de liens.

Qu'il se produise en duo intimiste ou en formation complète de cinq musiciens, The North Sound invite le public à vivre une expérience à la fois personnelle et universelle. Mimi O'Bonsawin 

Mimi O’Bonsawin (Pronounced: MEE-MEE O-BON-SA-WIN) is a contemporary roots singer-songwriter born in Northeastern Ontario. She is  French Canadian & W8banaki (Abénaki), a member of the Odanak First Nation. Through her rhythm and story-driven songs, Mimi’s music embraces the beauty of the land. The ethereal quality of her music whisks you away with uplifting melodies and introspective lyrics that weave pop sensibilities with acoustic instrumentation. Layers of percussion and unexpected harmonies make you feel the music rather than just hear it.

As both artist and gardener, Mimi draws a deep connection between the two practices: “Making music and growing food are very much the same. They both start with a seed and, with proper care, can grow into a beautiful garden that we all can share. I put intention and love into every seed and every note.”

In May 2025, Mimi was awarded Solo Artist of the Year at the Trille Or Awards. Earlier in the year, she toured Australia with performances at the Woodford and Cygnet Folk Festivals. While hard at work on her next album, she’ll also hit the road for a cross-Canada tour this summer.

 Mimi performs as a duo with her husband, Ryan Schurman, on drums and percussion, creating an intimate yet uplifting experience. Together, they invite audiences into their universe with a full-band sound that inspires dancing, singing and joy.

Mimi O’Bonsawin (prononcé : MEE-MEE O-BON-SA-WIN) est une auteure-compositrice-interprète de musique roots contemporaine née dans le nord-est de l’Ontario. D’origine franco-canadienne et W8banaki (Abénaquis), elle est membre de la Première Nation d’Odanak. À travers ses chansons rythmées et narratives, la musique de Mimi célèbre la beauté de la terre. Le caractère éthéré de sa musique vous transporte grâce à des mélodies envoûtantes et des paroles introspectives qui mêlent sensibilité pop et instrumentation acoustique. Les superpositions de percussions et les harmonies inattendues vous font ressentir la musique plutôt que simplement l’entendre.

À la fois artiste et jardinière, Mimi établit un lien profond entre ces deux pratiques : « Faire de la musique et cultiver des aliments, c’est très similaire. Les deux commencent par une graine et, avec les soins appropriés, peuvent se transformer en un magnifique jardin que nous pouvons tous partager. Je mets de l’intention et de l’amour dans chaque graine et chaque note. »

En mai 2025, Mimi a reçu le prix de l’Artiste solo de l’année aux Trille Or Awards. Plus tôt dans l’année, elle a effectué une tournée en Australie avec des concerts aux festivals folk de Woodford et de Cygnet. Tout en travaillant d’arrache-pied sur son prochain album, elle partira également en tournée à travers le Canada cet été.
