Gross Indecency: The Everett Klippert Story
17m
Directed by: Laura O'Grady
Everett Klippert was a Calgary bus driver. He was also the last Canadian to be jailed for homosexuality. Kevin Allen, of the Calgary Gay History Project, tries to understand Klippert and his place in LGBTQ history.
The Fruit Machine
1h21m
Rated PG 14
Directed by: Sarah Fodey
The documentary focuses on first person accounts of some of the thousands directly affected by the purge of gays and lesbians from the Canadian public service and armed forces in the period 1954-1989. From suspicion to surveillance to interrogation and release from employment for no other reason than sexual orientation, thousands of careers and lives were destroyed. A truly sad chapter in Canadian history. This documentary should form part of the curriculum in all Canadian high schools.
