Event Description

Knowing what to do in an emergency situation is important to those of us who enjoy spending time playing in the Alberta wilds year round. Other than watching episodes of ‘Alone’  how familiar are we with what is needed to survive an unexpected event in the Alberta Rockies?

Rob Ross, owner of Kaykima Wilderness, will cover some basic skills, tools and psychological considerations that could make all the difference if you find yourself in a survival situation in cold and snowy conditions. Learn about winter survival foods, how to create an emergency shelter, signals, and what to pack before you head out on your next adventure so that you can feel more confident to navigate what our Alberta wilderness can throw at us!

About the Speaker

Rob Ross is the founder and lead instructor at Kaykima Wilderness, offering emergency survival and bush-craft training throughout Alberta and neighbouring territories since 2017. Prior to this, he spent over twenty years working in youth justice and children’s mental health; his transition into wilderness education reflects his belief that resilience is built through nature, community, and hands-on experience. A lifelong nature-lover born in Ontario, Rob brings together deep outdoor skillsets, bushcraft wisdom, and a dedication to helping people thrive when the stakes are high.
