Description
In its first show since 2020, Tadpole brings back the eclectic supergroup featuring classical experimental violinist Laura Reid and flutist Jiajia Li of Who Cares?, collaborating with electronic musicians Krzysztof Sujata and Whitney Ota to create imaginative sound experiences for this performance.
We will also screen "Magnetic Reconnection", a short documentary film contrasting the Northern Lights with decaying man-made debris littered throughout the landscape surrounding the town of Churchill, Manitoba. Featuring an original score by Jim O'Rourke (Sonic Youth, Wilco) and likely some of the best footage of the aurora borealis ever captured. Producer, Trond Trondsen, will introduce the film.
FEATURING
Jiajia Li: Praised as "one of the city's finest and most adventurous flautists”, Jiajia Li has forged her identity through musical experimentation across a wide range of genres and traditions.
Laura Reid: From a Suzuki violin kid through an orchestral career, Laura now plays classical music on formal stages, contributes to recording projects, and improvises and collaborates within the experimental music community.
Whitney Ota: Working primarily with Eurorack modular synths as well as polyphonic synthesizers, Whitney sculpts audio environments always striving to push sound into transcendence.
Krzysztof Sujata: Taking often static elements and weaving them into dynamic structures, Krzysztof's works largely involve the use of synthesizer, loops and repetition.
