Description

Knowing your rights and learning how to speak up for yourself are essential skills—both in university and in everyday life.

Join us for Food 4 Thought: How to Speak Up – Student Self-Advocacy 101, a practical workshop hosted by your Students’ Union and presented by Sarah Webber, VIUSU’s Student Advocate. This session will help you understand your rights as a student and equip you with tools to navigate challenging conversations—whether that’s with a professor, landlord, employer, or anyone in a position of authority.

You’ll learn about:

  • Understanding your rights and responsibilities as a student

  • Communicating effectively in difficult situations

  • When and how to escalate a concern or request support

  • Applying self-advocacy skills in school, work, and daily life

Enjoy a free catered lunch while gaining real-world communication tools to help you feel confident and empowered in any setting. Please let us know about any allergies or dietary restrictions when you RSVP.

Part of the Food 4 Thought series—an opportunity for a healthy meal, thoughtful conversation, and learning—this event is organized by your Director of External Relations, Brandi Klee.
