Description

The 2025 Sound Atlas Festival's SONIC PLAYGROUND concludes with a brilliantly fun and virtuosic feast for the ears. Welcome to Day 3 (matinee start time!) where old becomes new in a magical spinning merry-go-round! Journey with us through various performances spaces in Contemporary Calgary, as we bring you the best of contemporary music by living composers and sound artists in dynamic performances that will fill you with wonder and joy.

2PM - DAY 3: Merry-Go-Round begins with a joy-filled play of music by Vincent Ho by our 2025 Contemporary Performance Lab fellows, a think tank for emerging new music ambassadors. This year's Latitude 49 solo feature is celebrated American clarinetist Andy Hudson presenting "Swing/Set", a wild ride of music for amplified bass clarinet and electronics by Andrew M. Rodriguez, Joshua Clausen and world premieres by Anna Meadors and Chris Sies.

3:15PM - Member of your Calgary Phil and renowned violist Jesse Morrison proves that playing music can be serious fun with his distinct set, REimagine, transforming the viola into a solo architect of sonic adventures. Count on charismatic performances of works by Brett Dean, Alice Ping Yee Ho, and Chris Paul Harman.

4:30PM - Latitude 49 closes the 2025 Sound Atlas Festival with a childlike sense of play and exploration. With distinct perfomances of works by Marcus Goddard and Garrett Schumann, the Contemporary Performance Lab fellows will inspire and delight. Experience the magical mashup of Renaissance and Jazz found in the music of featured composer Juri Seo performed by Latitude 49 to close the festival.

*Immediately following the conclusion of the festival, an album release party will take place in the Atrium for the newly released Obsolete Music on New Amsterdam Records featuring music by composer Juri Seo performed by Latitude 49. Please join us in celebration!
