Description
So Long Seven is an audible garden where you didn’t realize you needed to escape to until you are there surrounded by the flora and fauna that is, Neil Hendry –guitar, William Lamoureux – violin Ravi Naimpally - tabla, and Tim Posgate- banjo.
So Long Seven creates space for self-reflection while enlivening and invigorating you. It challenges the conventional ideas of the boundaries and parameters that music industry categories impose. It is jazzy, funky and derives from various continents while not being shepherded into any particular place or flavour. In this respect, SL7 teaches us about bridging cultures without appropriating, seeing ourselves and our limitations as our own making while rediscovering the joy of music. This music collective brings deep rest because this sound garden is a life force needed now, more than ever.
Born and raised in Canada, Samidha began learning Hindustani classical vocal music in Toronto at age 9 under the guidance of Shri. Narendra Datar. In addition, she studied vocal music through the Royal Conservatory up to level 10. Samidha has furthered her study of Hindustani music in India under renowned vocalists Smt. Veena Sahasrabhudde and Dr. Prabha Atre as a recipient of the Ontario Arts Council Chalmer's Professional Development Grant and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute India Studies Program Grant. Samidha is a versatile vocalist and has performed and recorded extensively contributing to many cross-cultural works. She has worked with many well known Canadian musicians including Harry Manx, Sundar Vishwanathan, Ravi Naimpally, Kevin Breit, George Koller and Waleed Abdulhamid. Her voice is featured in Deepa Mehta's film Midnight's Children with original music by U.K based musician, composer and producer Nitin Sawhney. An original album of Bhajans (devotional songs) called Kirtan Karlo features Samidha’s singing and is available on Spotify Music.
