Description

Blue Odeur

Once an art-rock band and now an electronic solo project, Blue Odeur is a blend of beats, vocals and digital detritus with the raggedy swagger of a warehouse rave. Latest EP, Inspector Knife, pays homage to The Knife and Todd Terje in both title and propulsion.

Yawn

Vancouver’s Julia McDougall cut her teeth in music in Western Canada’s folk scenes by earning a composition degree from Simon Fraser University and temporarily relocating to Berlin to practice her craft. The result is Yawn, a psychedelic but immediately accessible vocal pop project full of hazy longing. Hummable singles “Wasting Time” and “Golden” show great promise for her debut full-length album, expected to be out this fall.

Local Singles

If cherubs plunked piano notes in your dreams, it would sound like Local Singles. Local Singles is easy to listen to harmonies, collective vocals, melodic pianos and light drums that make you feel good — and still might make you dance

Sonido Nuevo

Part daytime-disco, part improvised jazz and all funky, Sonido Nuevo is the hot girl summer of music nerds. Led by Scott White of 36?, Sonido Nuevo’s two songs released so far are shrouded in psych but never leave a listener wanting for a groove. Live, the tracks come to life with White on electric guitar and vocals, accompanied by synth, bass, drums and keyboards.
