Description
SASAMI
Between opening for both Japanese Breakfast and Mitski this year, SASAMI (formerly of Cherry Glazerr) comes to Sled Island in support of sophomore album Squeeze, out February 25 on Domino. Expanding on the shoegaze and folk of the artist’s debut, Squeeze plays with nu-metal and industrial tones and will include guest spots by Megadeth’s Dirk Verbeuren, Vagabon and Patti Harrison.
Mother Tongues
Mother Tongues work a wide swath of worldly influences into hazy, guitar-driven psych. The end result is both an ode to the classic psychedelic records of the ‘60s and a bold new interpretation. On the Everything You Wanted EP, the band juxtaposes tender, flowing melodies with heavy, sluggish riffs while integrating elements of dub, noise and prog.
Still Depths
This Calgarian three-piece has displayed considerable versatility across four singles, from the reverb-drenched, spacey “Aglow,” to the elements of noise present on the scrappy track “Hey (Hey Hey).” A unifying element throughout these releases is the group's propensity for cathartic, satisfying breakdowns, which translates into a vicious live performance.
Cassia Hardy
Known best as the songwriter/lead performer behind Mint Records act Wares, Cassia Hardy will be performing as a solo act at Sled Island this year. Hardy is a fearsome performer whether with band or solo, and has a back catalogue of tunes ranging from quiet and acoustic to utterly rollicking. Hardy’s most recent album as Wares, Survival, received a glowing review from Pitchfork and was longlisted for the 2020 Polaris Prize.
