Description
Maky Lavender
Acclaimed bilingual rapper Maky Lavender brings a dynamic range and impressive tonal range to pop-forward productions. His best known single “Bloom” is a romantic, emo-rap anthem while songs on the more recent maky lavender album work with harder trap tones that are dance-floor ready. His prolific output and chameleon-like qualities make for a live show without a dull moment.
Teon Gibbs
Smooth and silky, every banger from this Botswana-born, internationally informed rapper goes down easy. Fast becoming the new voice of Canadian West Coast hip-hop, Gibbs has collaborated with some of the scene’s biggest names and has drawn the attention of such national outlets as Exclaim! and CBC (the latter of which produced a short film about the artist).
Sinzere
Multi-genre rapper and singer Sinzere has been steadily building her reputation as a rising Calgary talent for years, with recent EP BLACKOUT poised to be her breakout onto the world stage. Tracks like “Shake the Building” and “Drop Down” feature ice-cold trap production while Sinzere goes into full attack mode in her lyrics and delivery, running from lightning-fast rhymes to hollered war cries. Now is the perfect time to see her live.
ILL Human Nation
Trying to change the way people see hip-hop in Western Canada, ILL Human Nation is a group of young rappers that authentically speak to the truths of their lives. Using guitar riffs layered with classic hip-hop beats, ILL Human’s newest effort ILL Collection, Vol. 2 is harmonic with nods to old school R&B and rap.
