Description

Kari Faux

The sensational Kari Faux returns to Sled Island after six years and two pristine albums. A Southern transplant to L.A., Faux veers from silky R&B to deep-cut rap references with all the effort it takes to blink. “WHITE CAPRICE” featuring the iconic Gangsta Boo is a great way to get acquainted with her style.

Myst Milano

Rapper-DJ-producer Myst Milano returns to Sled Island shortly before a massive slot at Osheaga in Montreal later this summer. 2023 album Beyond the Uncanny Valley is a survey of Black-indebted club styles from house to footwork, all led by the artist’s authoritative presence. An excellent set for Foundation FM shows Milano’s vault of unreleased gems is just as powerful as the album that garnered praise from Exclaim! and Resident Advisor.

Nesha Nycee

Atlanta-based rapper Nesha Nycee has cultivated a style of heavy, hard-hitting beats and smooth verses. She believes sharing music is a healing power to break negative cycles and is heavily involved with community outreach, philanthropy and youth development. Her music complements these serious themes with thunderous, club-ready anthems that deserve to be blasted from some serious subwoofers.

Kilamanzego

Experimental electronic producer and vocalist Kilamanzego ("kill-a-man's-ego") is the brainchild of Kay Oko. Inspired by the legendary productions of J Dilla and the different surroundings she grew up in, Oko’s foray into the electronic world tackles issues of marginalization and confronting society’s expectations whilst also exploring life as a black, queer, androgynous artist.

Fraud Perry

With a swagger and charisma that shines through in her music and stage presence, Fraud Perry is direct and uncompromising in her work. A stylistic tour de force, Perry takes the heaviest elements in rap, new wave and punk to craft a brash and enthralling sound rooted in melody and committed to making you move.

Carissa Gem

Bass music artist Carissa Gem is a respected trendsetter in music scenes that crank up the low end. On her CJSW radio show, What Will the Neighbours Think, she features up-and-coming and underrepresented artists who are pushing new, innovative sounds. As a staple in North American festival communities, Carissa Gem’s gritty sets of big bass, deep tones, and low frequencies always pack a floor.

KTheChosen and The Knomads

Known in some circles as “Calgary's Friendly Neighbourhood Rapper,” KTheChosen blends entertainment with enlightenment in his music, drawing from his Zimbabwean roots and Canadian experiences. His latest EP IRL delves into the complexities of relationships and self-expression, harnessing the power of rhythmic storytelling to share personal experiences with love and vulnerability.
