Description
Kid Cali
Originally a songwriting collaboration between local player Tory Rosso and singer-songwriter Tanner James, Kid Cali is a seven-piece, multi-vocalist art project that writes songs about “fictitious star-crossed lovers.” Influenced by Easy Rider and Kerouac, the band’s songs run dusty and steeped in psych, yet showcase members’ vocal talents through storytelling-style songwriting.
Winona Forever
Listening isn’t always this easy. Nor pretty. Nor pleasing. But this veteran Vancouver foursome makes it all seem so effortless. Like Ween without the wink or any hint of an in-joke or punchline — smart, soothing, unapologetic adult contemporary pop that plays like an homage to ’70s K-Tel compilations.
Bad Bodies
Bad Bodies make bedroom pop infused with R&B leanings. Relying largely on mellow soundscapes of lush guitar and lethargic vocals, the band sustains a healthy dose of tension and release, all while remaining uncomplicated. With two singles under its belt, only excitement remains for the band’s future endeavours.
Neighbourly
Formerly known as SPEAK EASY, Neighbourly is a warm and breezy psych-pop band tinged by hints of funk. The name change comes with a dialing-up of that funk part, which you can hear on recent singles “Wake Up” and “Whoopsies,” where the bass lines and cosmic synth flourishes. The verdict? We’d be happy to call them neighbours.
