Description
BB BOMB
Still thrashing harder than ever 20 years after forming, BB BOMB’s aggressive brand of punk rock feels timeless. Their second album, Practice Songs, is currently being released as four nugget-sized EPs of SST-style hardcore, featuring scorching tracks that rarely crack two minutes. Your new favourite band has been hiding in Taiwan all this time!
Devours
Across five acclaimed underground albums, Devours — the electropunk project of Vancouver-based DIY artist Jeff Cancade — has written confessional and confrontational electronic music about masculinity, body image, gay politics, and inner-city queer existence. Their most recent album, Sports Car Era, came out in March and featured Japandroids’ David Prowse on drums for the live release show.
Shiv and the Carvers
This self-proclaimed “roller-skate punk” outfit has been blasting through the Toronto punk scene since 2021. The band’s live performances are filled with pure sonic smut, sweat, and leopard print — get a taste via the single “Danger Girl.” With sexily political lyrics and strutting rock riffs, Shiv and the Carvers stand ready to unlock your inner reprobate.
Eraser
Featuring members of Amanda X and opening for bands like Control Top, Eraser has quickly become one of Philly’s most in-demand and vital punk bands. Their chopped-up stew of no wave bounce and post-punk twang shines through their bite-sized debut video “Simon Says,” a shivering stop-motion synth-punk party heralding whatever comes next.
puppet wipes
Lo-fi absurdity and spidery art punk mischief are the name of the game for puppet wipes. Since 2018, the scrappy now-trio has released a rapid-fire of recordings on Looks Real Records, Philadelphia's Siltbreeze Records, and No Label from New Zealand. Their vision of music is spontaneous, rooted in thrilling experimentation that defies any easy categorization.
