Sargeant X Comrade

Veteran electronic-soul duo Sargeant X Comarade combines elements of jazz, soul, funk, dancehall and hip-hop for a sound all its own. New listeners should start with either of their two most recent albums — 2021’s The Elephant in the Room and 2020’s Magic Radio — while listeners already familiar should check out the band’s two compilations of instrumentals from this year.

Kaeyae Alo

With austere R&B textures and hypnotic vocal stylings, Kaeyae Alo has her finger on the pulse of contemporary soul music. Focusing both on the connections between people and the inner lives we all privately have, her music encourages you towards deeper connection to, and understanding of, yourself and your community.

Wura Sol

Powerful-voiced singer-songwriter Wura Sol “seeks to solve the epidemic of numbness through her music by evoking emotional curiosity through her soulful melodies and honest lyrics.”  And, frankly, if you can listen to her music without feeling something, you are dead inside. Her velvet voice glides over drums and keys with restrained confidence that belies her raw power.
