Sled Island and IRIM present: Ziibiwan, Lashes, Lucid 44 and Matthew Cardinal

Operating somewhere between drone and trip-hop, Ziibiwan’s unexpected weaving between amorphous and beat-driven music is the sonic equivalent of insatiable hunger. With a catalogue of genreless experimental music already under their belt and a debut record due in 2019, they’re definitely one to watch at this year’s Sled Island.

Lashes
With four songwriters amongst its four members, Calgary’s Lashes fuse ‘90s dream pop and college rock with fuzz pedals and femme fury. Their 2018 EP, demos, vol 1., captures the raw energy of one of the city’s most active young bands.

Lucid 44
Markus Overland, the creative force behind Lucid 44, is a real Calgary original, and there may be no other songwriter that has come from this town that has possessed such an idiosyncratic creative voice. Lucid 44 is folk that takes a dark turn, and this validates the fact that you don’t need a good time to have fun.

Matthew Cardinal
Matthew Cardinal might be known to you as a member of nêhiyawak, but that will do little to prepare you for the avant-garde improvisational work he does under his own name. This is meditative music caught on the interplay of freeform guitar and synth.
