Sharon Riley and Faith Chorale (SRFC) stands as a shining example of excellence in the Canadian performing arts scene. With over thirty years of groundbreaking achievements, this Toronto based, JUNO Award winning ensemble has pioneered a legacy of gospel music ministry by garnering both national and international acclaim.

As the founding Artistic Director, Sharon Riley’s personal journey is a testament to resilience, faith and perseverance, and is the core of the group’s existence. In 1990, a devastating car accident forced her to re-evaluate her life. While physically broken, her spirit and faith remained unshaken. During her recovery process, she joined together with friends Sharon McLeod and Robert Picart to form a local gospel ensemble which would eventually evolve into Sharon Riley and Faith Chorale.

The group’s unique sound seamlessly blends urban contemporary gospel, traditional hymns, soulful ballads, Negro spirituals and traditional African music, reflecting their diverse cultural heritage. Their versatility and artistry have led to them to collaborate and/or share the stage with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Donald Lawrence, Andrew Craig, Johnny Reid, Fred Hammond, the Killers, Jully Black, Marianas Trench, David Clayton-Thomas, Michael Bublé, Walk Off the Earth and the legendary Mariah Carey.

Beyond its musical accolades, SRFC has made memorable appearances in both film and television. Its credits include performances in The Blues Brothers 2000 alongside Aretha Franklin, John Goodman and Dan Aykroyd, HBO’s Light to the Power of Two, Lifetime’s The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, and xXx: Return of Xander Cage starring Vin Diesel, Samuel L. Jackson and Ice Cube. The Choir’s televised appearances also include Global Television’s Sing Out Freedom Train, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Christmas Soul, NBC’S Saving Hope, Vision TV’s People Who Sing Together and HBO’s Deacon for Defense which starred the late Ossie Davis and Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker.

Sharon Riley:
Sharon Riley is a celebrated vocalist, arranger, producer and clinician whose illustrious career embodies resilience, longevity and unwavering faith. Her artistic journey reflects a lifetime of dedication to the arts, excellence in music, and a passion for sharing her craft with others. From an early age, music played a central role in Sharon’s life. Her formal training as a jazz and opera singer, coupled with her innate talent, paved the way for significant early achievements, including winning the Kiwanis Music Competition in 1977 and 1978. As an undergraduate student at Oakwood College (now Oakwood University), a Historically Black University in Huntsville, AL, Sharon honed her skills as a member of the world-renowned Aeolians, Oakwood’s premier choral ensemble. This provided her with opportunities to perform and tour globally, setting the stage for her future accomplishments.

Sharon Riley and Faith Chorale continue to inspire audiences worldwide by spreading light and love through their powerful musical ministry, and uplifting audiences with their dynamic performances and unwavering message of hope. We are pleased to welcome them to Hugh’s Room Sunday June 21.
