ABOUT THE SHOW:

ALL ABOUT THE BASS (‘BOUT THE BASS)

Info coming soon…  our combo of Voice and Bass is a big part of what makes the show unique.  This wonderful duo will mix up classic standards with covers of pop and country tunes along with Shannon’s original compositions. Ross and Shannon attended high school and university together, so I think it’s also special that we have been friends and bandmates for so long! And Ross lives in the Niagara community so he’s one of your own!

Shannon Butcher is an acclaimed Canadian singer, songwriter, arranger, and record producer. She charms audiences with her joyful wit and warm energy – her performances capture the unique spirit of each song while also celebrating the playful nature of jazz. Born in Mississauga, Shannon is proud to be an established part of the Toronto jazz community both as a performer and educator. She has been a fixture in major festivals in Ontario, toured across Canada and performed across The United States and in England. Shannon’s original songs reveal the breadth of her influences, from the sounds of Big Band music halls to Yorkville folk coffee houses. As an arranger, she interprets chart-topping pop songs with a fresh and exciting jazz perspective. Shannon has released five albums under her own label Summer Bloom Records, her first album earning an iTunes’ Best New Jazz Artist of the Year award. Her songs are in high rotation on CBC and JazzFM.91 and can be heard on radio stations across the world. In addition to her solo work, she is currently a member of the folk quartet Samways, which released its self-titled debut album in 2021. Her latest single, One Fine Day, with Ross MacIntyre, was released in November 2023. Shannon can be found online www.shannonbutcher.com and on social media @shannonbutchersings

Ross MacIntyre is one of the most sought-after bassists in Canada. He has played on hundreds of recordings including 11 that have won or were nominated for JUNO awards.

As a side musician, he has shared the stage with some of North America’s great performers including Matt Dusk, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Guido Basso, Geoffey Keezer Warren Vaché, Filo Machado, Heather Bambrick, Elizabeth Shephard, Kellylee Evans, Laila Biali, Jesse Cook, Shannon Butcher, Barbra Lica, Eliana Cuevas, Jorge Miguel, The Shuffle Demons, and many others.

Ross attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated with his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto. He studied privately with Ray Brown, Dave Young, Pat Collins, Mike Downes, and Joel Quarrington.

He was the music director and composer for The Garden Brother Circus, and has played in the pit orchestra for numerous musical theatre productions with CanStage, Young People’s Theatre, and Mirvish Prodictions.

In 2011 Ross released a duet alum with the great Pianist Mark Kieswetter, and it has been met with critical acclaim. The Whole Note magazine wrote, “Kieswetter and MacIntyre have captured the essence of what the best piano/bass duos are all about: elegance, economy, precision, fluidity, style, intimate, grace, and that magical, intangible chemistry – the simpatico.”
