Description

Seducing the Reader: Smutty Writing Techniques to Subvert Your Censor & Create Page-Turning Prose in All Genres (PG-13)

The smutty writing techniques good erotica writers use translate into stellar prose no matter your genre. This workshop shows you how to subvert your inner censor and create “can’t stop turning the pages” prose in your genre–no erotica writing involved. Includes exercises on the how and why of writing prompts, scene secrets and schematics, dialogue didactics (including how to write “texting” scenes), sins of specificity, and the art of writing the other.

Workshop Delivery: Online via ZOOM; link will be emailed to class registrants

Workshop Facilitator: M. JANE COLETTE writes tragedy for those who like to laugh, comedy for the melancholy, and erotica for people who like their fantasies real. She believes rules and hearts were made to be broken; ditto the constraints of genres. Her first novel, Tell Me, published by Harper Collins in 2015, along with its successor Consequences (of defensive adultery), was lauded as ushering in a new sub-genre of "social realist erotica." Her third novel, Cherry Pie Cure, won the 2018 Next Generation IBA Award in the chick lit category. Her latest novel is Text Me, Cupid, a (slightly dirty) love story for 21st century adults who don’t believe in true love (but want it anyway). This spring, she's releasing the Cupid in Monte Carlo trilogy. Active in her local writing community, Colette is a member of the planning committee of When Words Collide Festival, the curator of the YYC Queer Writers anthologies Queer Christmas in Cowtown, Screw Chocolate, and A Queer Summer Night in Cowtown, and a founding member of TIARA, The Inclusive Authors of Romance Association, which supports established and aspiring romance authors in their careers and actively affirms the need for #ownvoices, diversity, and inclusivity in the romance industry.
